Just heard about this and thought it was worth sharing....

On July 1st the tv show 30 Days will feature a story about a anti-gun woman forced to live with a family of avid gun owners!

Here's the description as it appears on the 30 Days website.....
http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/30days/episodeguide.php
PARTICIPANT - Pia Lalli, 39
RESIDES - Brockton, MA
OCCUPATION - Aerobics Instructor
AIRDATE - Tuesday, July 1, 2008

After Pia learned that her friend had been killed by a schizophrenic man wielding a gun in 1996, she became a gun control advocate who has fought to pass stricter gun laws in the U.S. Pia believes that the world would be free from gun violence only by prohibiting the sale of guns to anyone outside of law enforcement and armed services.

For 30 Days, Pia will live in the heart of gun culture in the rural town of Leesburg, Ohio with gun enthusiast Ken Ekermeyer, 39, and his 15-year-old son Zach. Ken is an avid gun collector and rarely leaves home without his gun strapped to his side. Ken believes carrying a gun is his right guaranteed to every American by the Second Amendment. As Pia struggles to understand the Ekermeyer's beliefs and somewhat isolated way of life, she will work at a local gun store and experience what it is like to carry a gun in public, learn to handle and fire weapons and will introduce Ken to other gun control activists who have lost loved ones to gun violence.

Sounds interesting if it is played anywhere near straight ! :scrutiny:

Seen too much bias on TV against firearms to jump for joy just because the issue will get some coverage & attention.

Since these shows thrive on idiotic bickering and confrontation, I can't see any good coming from this.

After Pia learned that her friend had been killed by a schizophrenic man wielding a [strike]gun[/strike] knife in 1996, she became a [strike]gun[/strike] knife control advocate who has fought to pass stricter [strike]gun[/strike] knife laws in the U.S.

I wish it would be that simple for these people to understand...

I've seen this show before a few times, and have found it to be very fair and balanced. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm actually pretty optimistic about how this show will turn out. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, from the description it sounds like they are trying to bring her to the realization that guns are not evil like she thinks they are.

That is about how those shows are. They film many days or weeks and then edit it into an hour or so show.

Well 8 hour days where 7 hours go great are not so exciting to show. The few minutes someone broke down into tears, the few minutes of controversy and bickering however are entertaining.
All arguments and confrontations are condensed down into the final show.
The end result is relatively stable people can look like emotional nutjobs, and issues that in reality don't create a huge amount of trouble can appear to have been all anyone could focus on the whole time.

One thing I noticed about past shows is that they seem to be trying to change the mind or outlook of whoever is staying with someone else. In this case, since the anti-gunner is moving in with the gunnie I would think that means they are trying to get the anti to see the other side.

All us gunnies have seen the other side enough, we're bombarded with it daily. The other side tends to shut us out, however, and thus rarely actually "gets" our side.

Overall, I'm thinking this episode could be a positive.

30 days in one of my favorite shows. They did an episode where a die-hard Christian Biker had to live with a Muslim family for 30 days. They are legit and usually do a very good job of showing both sides of the issue.

My wife and I love this show. We were already looking forward to the new season, but especially now. Can't wait for that episode. This show is very fair to both sides of whatever issue the explore and not biased. Should be fun.

She will either see the other side and possibly convert or she will go insane and her head will explode.

Might be more interesting if she was anti-schizophrenic and was sent to live with a family of schizophrenics. Now that there'd be some must-see TV!

The premise itself is insulting to the 2A. Basically it's saying "here is a normal person that wants to make the world safe for the children and she's forced to live with some nutjobs for a month."

I think that some good could come of it, but it's unlikely. It will be edited to show pro gun folks saying things that are taken out of context and sound off the wall. Or there may be some off the wall comments (we all know the off the wall gun enthusiast) about guns and that will be taken as gospel as the representative of the 2A, just like Bowling for Columbine.

(Never seen the show so I’m following the great internet tradition of writing about what I don’t know.)

Sounds like each person will try to explain their point of view to the other, and have the other person experience what they do. This means half the time the show will someone saying this you disagree with, the other half will have a person you with whom you do agree.

Now, is this biased or balanced?

The thing is, living with firearms generally has about as much real drama as living with a farm tractor.

Sooooo, to make a television show that won't put the audience to sleep they're going to have to create/invent/fabricate some kind of drama (not that we'll get to see the background manipulation).

In other words the attitude right from the start is that Guns=drama and that can't possibly be of any help to gaining RKBA support in the mind of the general public.

"Ken believes carrying a gun is his right guaranteed to every American by the Second Amendment. As Pia struggles to understand the Ekermeyer's beliefs and somewhat isolated way of life,..."

Need we say more about where this show is going to go...

My H.S. drama teacher taught us (waaaay back in the early 70's) that ALL productions worth watching, be they comedy, drama or even documentary, must show or deal w/ "Conflict". They can then show resolution or leave the ending open for discussion, but expect conflict, know it when you see it, understand how it is set up & used, etc.

Pretty much has held true IMO.

Don't know this "30 Days" show... as I'm not much on watching TV anymore... too much unnecessary and banal "Conflict" :D

But living with guns has certain advantages. They don't talk much. Only disadvantage to living with guns nowadays I find is feeding them, as it seems their feed costs have risen more and my paycheck not so much. (minor conflict... Hmmm ;))

Now, if this 30 Days show gets into the "Political Conflict at State and Federal levels" revolving around living with guns, that might prove to be educational and worthy of wasting, er... donating, an hour of life. Maybe clean a few guns whilst parked in front of tube with the scent of Hoppes 9 as aromatherapy...

I wonder if Remington will be a sponsor?
