32 H&R fans rejoice

My experience with 32 magnum revolvers and 32acp ammo:

Two wouldn't work or would rarely work.

Two would ignite about half the time.

Two ignited every time.

It wasn't quite as accurate as revolver ammo, but not as bad as I expected.

My European pistols wouldn't work with WWB 32acp, so I shot four boxes of it out of revolvers instead.

Ironically, this one functions perfectly with 32acp, 32 S&W long and short, and 32 H&R magnum. I've put somewhere near 500 trouble-free rounds through it. I paid around $125 used. I remember as a kid them being on sale for $89 NiB. I'm not promoting them. I doubt if it would hold up to 10k's of rounds. It's just funny how things work out.

"The issue with the ACP is the thinner rim like you stated." (semi-rim can cause issues with extraction as well)

The .32 Acp has a rim thickness .010" less than the .32 Mag and a rim dia. that is .017" less because it is a semi-rimmed cartridge. As many .32 H&R Mag guns do, my Taurus M731 shoots the ,32 Acp just fine. It is all about the tolerances of the gun. It is not recommended however to shoot the .32 Acp rounds out of older .32 S&WL chambered gun as the Acp round is of a higher pressure.

I must say that is a tight group .. A little low .. But a nice group... As I tead .. Back up to 10yds and see what happens ...

I’m fairly certain it will group even better. When I saw the first one was so low I shot the other six pretty quick just to finish the cylinder off. The gun seems to have very good accuracy potential. It’s a shame they haven’t gotten this worked out yet.

LOL, guys you aren't gonna believe this, but Charter is going to start making a 6 shot .357 Professional this year. I mean, here's hoping they fix the issue with the guns shooting low, otherwise they're going to get inundated with complaints and bad reviews about the .357 Professional shooting low and being "inaccurate junk."

I'm not counting on it tho, there's one puff piece review on the internet with the reviewer admitting the gun shoots low, but their fix is to change the way they aim or their aiming point. Yup, change your fundamentals to compensate for a manufacturing issue the company refuses to fix.

Chickens are gonna come home to roost for Charter in 2020.

Has anyone that has had to send their gun back sent Charter this thread? We've already figured out how to fix it for them. It's almost like they just haven't realized what the fix is. Usually Charter has a decent reputation for customer support. I'm guessing they wouldn't listen to me, since I don't have any dog in the race (and I even bought the competitor).

A Six shot 357 ... I wonder which frame size are they gonna use ? They use the Bulldog frame for the 5 shot 357 ..
They may use the XL frame ...

They're using the same frame and cylinder the .32 Professional uses. That's the reason it's going from 7 shots to 6.

Thats the Bulldog frame ...
Same as my Charter 357mag which is a 5 shot...

Finally got to shoot my "modified" Charter Arms Professional. I milled the top rib on the barrel down till it was flush with the bottom of the sight groove, cold blued the area, and reinstalled the factory sight. Also replaced the green fiber tube with a slightly smaller red one.

It may be shooting a little low but I could hit 8" steel targets at 12 to 15 yards. Really wish the factory would make these right !!!

I sent Charter a link to this thread a couple of weeks ago ... I guess that and nickle would get me a piece of Hubba Bubba

And I wouldn't be too optimistic about the Hubba Bubba at a nickle either.

I was really hoping that the company would have gotten on top of this. Was considering getting geared up for some .32 reloading. Guess not the way this product is looking.

After all this uh, stuff going on I've lost interest in the Professional and have decided that if I really decide to buy a .32 it will be one of the Rugers, either an SP or an LCR.

So... I got the Ruger, but I haven't shot it yet. .32 ACP fits just fine, but when pushing on the extractor, the ACP cases don't extract, they just slip through the extractor star. The star doesn't have the tightest fit in the world. Maybe fired cases, being expanded slightly will actually extract, but I'm not holding my breath. Just something to be aware of, as some folks already are!

I wouldn't shoot .32 ACP from the SP101. I had a crippling issue with the primer of a Winchester .32 ACP getting impaled on the firing pin and it locked up the gun. Couldn't open the cylinder, couldn't cock the hammer, nothing. Had to pry the case off with a knife. I didn't have any issues with PPU .32, but all guns are different and it's impossible to tell what ammo will work in what gun.

That said, I've shot .32 ACP with success in several .32 H&R Mag revolvers and have never had an issue.

I shot my "fixed" Professional today and, like everyone else's, it's still shooting low, but not as low as before. Now it's about 3 to 4 inches low with .32 S&W Long and a 95 grain bullet. I will give it the benefit of the doubt tho and load up some .32 H&R Mag with 85 and 100 grain Hornady XTP's before I call Charter and send it back again. It's possible that this gun shoots .32 S&W Long lower than it does H&R Mag.

I still like everything about this revolver that isn't related to the sights. If Charter could get the damn sights right, this would be an excellent choice for carrying.
To update, I loaded some warm .32 Mag with 85 grain XTP's and still shot low, so it's not fixed. I'll keep it for a little while longer with the hopes that a lightbulb goes off at Charter, but if by the end of the year they still haven't figured it out, I'll be selling this.

I have a S&W 431pd and it shoots 32 long about 3" low at 7 yards. But it's right on with 32 h&r.

Try the 100 gr 32 h&r.

I've tried various 32 H&R rounds and 32 longs, all are way too low for any typical sight compensation. The front sight does have a tiny screw holding it on but any replacement would be no more than .040" high.

I just saw a gunbroker listing for the 6 shot .357 version. The heavier bullet may work fine with the sights.
