I have a .375 H&H in an older Sako Finnbear platform.Very accurate, decent trigger and reliable. Its a great cartridge and will get the job done, very versatile. I was looking at the Winchester M70 Safari Grade in .375 H&H.Nice looking rifle,FN did a nice job.

Great post, H&H Hunter.

I agree it's just fine for deer, but I got tired of explaining the physics to people and just used my 30-30.

The .375H&H is my all time favorite rifle round. It's an amazing bit of engineering.

My .375 H&H Win.Mod.70 Super Express was bought 25+ years ago and has has been a flawless performer. This is arguably one of the best all around cartridges available. The performance with factory ammunition is outstanding, and if you reload it is just twice as good.
Like most people that own one I am a bit of a fanatic,I use mine for everything Range time to moose. (It tends to be a bit rough on gophers)

I have a Browning Safari .375 that's been mildly customized that I like a lot. I haven't accumulated the bag that H&Hhunter has, but I've taken a couple of Cape buffalo, lion, hippo, various African plains game, and a couple of deer with mine. The .375 is adequate for anything that walks the face of the earth today, yet recoil is manageable for just about everyone.

What I'll suggest is that when you purchase a .375, be sure the rifle fits you well - ideally, as well as a fine shotgun. For hunting in general and particularly for dangerous game, you want the rifle to be right on target as soon as you raise it to your shoulder - you don't want to have to try to settle it into position and screw around with adjusting your head position so you can align the sights.

This thread got me into getting out a safe queen that hasn't been shot in at least 25 years. I had taken the scope off of her for use on another rifle so yesterday I got a scope and rings and lapped and mounted it and now as soon as the weather cooperates I'll be out to the range getting familiar with her again. She's a Mauser 3000 L/H and always shot sub moa in her previous usage. I guess my going to longbows to hunt with is part of the reason she hasn't been used in a while. FRJ

I have a 375 H&H, it's a Mark X Whitworth express rifle, I bought when I was 21 or 22 (I'm 38 now) for about $400 and it wil always live where I live. It is a classic, Mauser action, 3 leaf express sights, barrel band sling swivel, oil finished stock and a red recoil pad. It weighs just shy of 10lbs and is relatively easy on the shoulder.

The only load I have ever shot out of it (besides a single box of Winchester 300gr factory ammo to get the first lot of brass) is a 300gr bullet with 80grs of IMR-4350 (that load is above current reloading manual maximums, I do not recommend it, just stating what I have used safely) in Winchester brass and a Federal 215 primer. With the iron sights, it'll do 1 1/2" at 100 yards.

I've never had the pleasure of hunting dangerous game with it (as a young man I bought it with that intention but it hasn't happened yet), but I have shot a few whitetails with it. It actually destroys very little meat. Far less meat than some of the 30/06s, 35 Whelens and other rounds that I've used on deer.

The 375 H&H is a great round and my rifle is a thing of beauty. It is a great joy to own and hold and handle and look at and shoot. What more could you ask for? And if or when I do get the opportunity to hunt something that bites back, I'm ready.
