44 Spcl fired in 44 Mag cylinder

Just use a belled out case to scrape any powder ring that might be in the chamber.

End of the day, it’s a non issue

FWIW, I do reload and am planning to put up my 44 Spcl loads in 44 Mag brass. The lead bullets that will be used for 44 Spcl will be the tipoff on which is which. 44 Mag is all jacketed.

The crud ring may have been made worse by the old-school lead wadcutter loads I used in 38 Spcl. There may not have been a problem with copper plated bullets and a powder more modern and cleaner than bullseye.

I'm against loading head stamped cases to another level other than what the head stamp indicates it is. You never know who might end up with your made up ammo. I realize that downloading is pretty safe but if someone else ends up with it they might be wondering. What's wrong with this stuff? I think it's a bad habit. Just learn how to clean your gun properly. IMO.
Except that the ammo would not be dangerous, assuming it is loaded above squib level. This is excessive hand wringing IMO.

Yes it will. But who cares? Clean the gun after shooting and it won't be a problem.

I know how to clean, OK? Been cleaning after every shooting session since I started shooting over 50 years ago. Found that nothing short of the Lewis Lead Remover totally removed the 38 Spcl crud rings from the Python cylinder.

Was it something one could live with cleaning without the LLR? Yes. But cartridges should fall in and cases should fall out; and with the crud ring 'detent' they wouldn't do that. Maybe a wire brush on a power drill would've helped.

Being unwilling to make the Lewis tool a part of every cleaning session I started loading in 357 brass, which solved the problem. Apparently the same problem occurs with 44 Spcl in 44 mag cylinders so a similar solution seems appropriate.

I meant no offense sir. I wasn't trying to say you don't know how to clean a gun. I've also been shooting 38 spls out of my 357's and 45 Colt and 454 Casull from my 460 magnum for many years. I've never had an issue getting the crud ring out with a good brush and multiple applications of Hoppe's #9. But I shoot jacketed bullets only, and that may change the game. I've never even used a LLR, only Hoppes copper solvent on my bores and barrels every now and then. Sorry if my comment came off implying otherwise.

That's the best solution IMO. I don't own a 44 magnum, but when I do buy one I plan to simply load my own to the levels I want in 44 mag brass.
