Gentleman I have been following this thread and at first it was interesting , now I'm no Gunsmith nor a machinist nor a Ballistics whiz I just like to read about this kind of stuff.
Mr RC ( amongst others ) has made it plain to me that this is "project" is a " non starter" , an 'almost ran" .
Even I with zero skills in smithing can understand the "no top strap" deal.
Can I suggest a troll has entered the building,,? .

You're the troll here, your coming into my thread just to sass me? Also your admitting you have no knowledge on the subject, yet telling me i'm wrong... I have proven rcmodel wrong time over time the only reason you take his side is because i'm the newbie to beat up on. Kind of getting annoying, so you are the troll my friend.

The strength to be concerned with would be the frame strength (not the arbor system). The force against the recoil surface. The cylinder takes the pressure, the frame takes the force.

Yep exactly i don't understand why people think colts are so weak, never heard once of one "bending in half" especially the walker. I pretty much closed the book on the cylinder, everything that can be said in it's defense has been, and if people don't want to read that's their fault.

I wish this thread didn't derail so much, i actually wanted peoples opinions on things like ways to make the hammer, extractor etc. But it just evolved to people calling me a troll and saying i'm going to die..

The "loop" of the frame of the top strap design is spread around the perimeter of the force. The force on this design is put on the upper corners of the loop (the weakness of the design).
The "loop" of the arbor design is more centrally located with a huge barrel lug for support/completion of the loop and also much more compact ( a stronger design in my (and others) opinion).
The top strap setup is much more "manufacturer friendly " which I believe it is the "winning" design, not because it is stronger ( the more strength you need, the thicker the strap has to be. Look a the top strap of the Century .45/70 in the OPs attached pic).

An arbor design is more "setup intensive" and thus much more costly than a frame that you drill, tap and screw in a barrel. It makes since to me and I would have done the same thing but, that still doesn't take away from the good aspects of the arbor design.

Thanks for the info and i agree, mostly open top revolvers just look better to me.

so I have one question.... If the only fuss is about the 300-405 grain bullet couldn't you just load a round ball or some sort of 200-250 grain conical in the gun?

Yep and i will, i actually said somewhere a little back that i'd start out with around a 200 grain bullet and go from there. Id actually prefer the increased velocity anyways.

Making popcorn.

This should, assuming the thread doesn't get locked, be fun to watch.

I have always wondered why some folks go out of their way to obtain prosthetics and eye patches.

I always wondered how many times I could be insulted in one thread by someone I was only trying to help?

Now I know!
Three times is my new record.

Post's #17, 29, and 77.

Thankya! Thankya Very Much!! ;)

The track goes both ways.

Troll or not.
He obviously has no comprehension of firearms design, pressure, or common sense.

What part about muzzle energy & recoil is it you don't understand??

Never mind.
I'm tired of trying to reason with you on something you very obviously don't understand.

To name a few, those aren't your worst offences however. What really annoys me is how you assume my ignorance when you are the one who has eaten your words time over time. This is not an insult like you say it is, why would your opinion hold weight to me when you just insult and belittle me? Also just about everything you have said has not only been proven wrong by me but others as well. For example originally you were saying the gun would bend in half...

Even if a 45-70 could fit in a Walker cylinder, which it can't. The frame would bend like a pretzel above the trigger guard and the revolver would explode.

Why should i care what you have to say? I'm willing to put this behind us, i am replying to you now even though i said i was done with you because you stopped saying i had no common sense. I'm a very easy going person but even i have tolerances.
