• One of every 82 Arizonans can legally carry a concealed weapon, compared with one of every 92 Texans and one of every 40 Utah residents.

Boo Yaa! Go Utah. Go Utah. Its your birthday. Go Utah. Raise the roof now! :D

"most of the fruitcakes here packing"

what are you talking about?
are you calling all californians 'fruitcakes'? I assume you mean that in a general pejoritive sense (meaning nutty, without common sense) and not in the other way.

I was born in California and have lived here most of my life. The deterioration of this state over the last 50 years is nothing short of remarkable. I live in a sparsely populated agricultural county and am insulated from the cesspools that were the larger cities. Nonetheless, I travel throughout the state from time to time and witness firsthand the increasing numbers of derelicts and whacked out psychos who come here from who knows where. Laws, regulations, restrictions here have become increasingly onerous, forcing reasonable productive people to leave the state. The bottom of the barrel is what's left over. I don't want them carrying.

Most of us in the rural counties of California are mainstream America, not unlike folks in the midwest or the south. We are the ones who should be carrying. I can't find the 2000 election map at the moment, but it would illustrate what I'm saying.

I agree, but only for young people serving in the military.

Totally, because my life and liberties are way less important than those of someone in the military.

cool website-very inneresting

If you're talking about my LJ, yeah... sometimes I talk about guns, gun politics, and carry issues, but most of it's personal blathering. (The main treylis.org one I haven't really worked on since dinosaurs walked the earth.) I've tried to tone down the gun content recently because a lot of my friends who read it aren't exactly firearms enthusiasts and a few are antis... some of whom I know I will never, ever convert, sadly enough.

As to the whole 18-versus-21 carrying thing... I've argued this endless, endless times, and it's my least favorite thing to argue next to the merits and disadvantages of open carry, because I've just done it way too much. ;-)

My position basically is that if you're legally responsible for your actions--the whole "legal adult" concept--then you should be able to carry a gun, buy alcohol, etc. Because right now, I'd really like to be able to CCW most of the time, but I'm forced to carry openly or risk getting hit with a hard misdemeanor, and I'd really prefer to avoid having heart-to-heart chats with the police if I can avoid it.

I can elaborate upon that if somebody really wants to argue, but I simply have not seen any compelling arguments for restricting carry to people 21 and over--most hinge on "well, young people just aren't as responsible". So... I guess we should restrict CCW to 23, like Missouri? Oh, wait, maybe that's still not responsible enough. How about 25, like New Mexico? Still not responsible enough? I mean, we all know that age and responsibility walk hand-in-hand. Wait, I guess that no matter their age, adults that are responsible in the eyes of the law still aren't responsible enough personally, so we'll have utterly no CCW. Can't trust folks with those pesky rights, you know. I feel much safer already.

Granted I'm an import from missouri, but I've lived in berkeley/oakland for 4 years. I'd have no problem with my peers carrying, so long as I could too. That kinda patronizing, "they aren't responsible enough to carry", attitude can easily be used against the idea of ANY civilian carrying.

Money, and age have a lot to do with the numbers. The baby boomers were bombarded with anti-gun prop in school and pro-gun entertainment on the television and guess which they picked? Subsequent generations get anti-gun propaganda from the school and Dan Rather. They Britney Spears kissing Madonna for entertainment. Of course more of the people who live in nice neighborhoods can afford the licenses than those who live elsewhere.

Even the financially comfortable are not all that insulated and have to drive throught he affordable housing every now and then
