I am looking to buy another AR style rifle in 7.62
Which manufacturer makes reasonably priced accurate semi autos?

I personally would go with a DPMS format, regardless of brand. The DPMS and Aero rifles I've owned have been top notch. The Remington branded versions I have worked on have also been well done.

Personally, I would do the research, accumulate the parts, and have someone put it together for you. Black Hole Weaponry barrel, Geiselle NM 2 stage, and Aero M5 upper & handguard are on my current build.

I have to agree with Varminterror. It's hard to beat DPMS pricing and performance when it comes to the AR 308 platform. I have a POF AR 308 which is a fantastic rifle but you don't need to pay $3K to have a really decent product. I've shot more than a few DPMS rifles when I worked at Remington and they all shot extremely well. My only gripe with DPMS is that I don't like the look of the upper receiver on their lower end stuff. With their higher end products such as the NATO REPR you start getting into Daniel Defense, POF and LaRue territory.

I'm guessing 7.62 x 51? Maybe 7.62 x 39? What are your plans for it? Your answers will help you get better answers.

As an experienced user of the Larue OBR and Knight's SR-25, I was impressed by the DPMS SASS- it performed a lot better than I expected.

It really depends on what kind of rifle you are looking for. If your looking for a stationary target rifle, than most any of the heavy .308 AR-10's are going to do the job. If you are looking for a lighter weight rifle, there really is no other choice (aside from a Scar 17) than the DPMS GII AP4. 7.62x51 chambered 4150cmv, chrome lined, etc. Weighs 7lbs. Minute of pie plate with FMJ at 300 yards with a low magnification optic.

7.62x35 or 7.62x39 or 7.62x51? I'm assuming the latter but . . . Also what do you plan to do with it? Lastly what is your idea of reasonably priced? People have very very different conceptions of that.

The US Army Marksmanship Team chose the AR10 to shoot .308 rounds in matches; they've won and set records with them. Rebuilt correctly, they equal the accuracy the best M1 and M14 rebuilds that have tested under 4 inches at 600 yards with handloads.

None of these rifles shot that accurate with reloaded cases previously fired in them. New cases did best.

I'm the odd man out here... I have a Rock River LAR-8, which is a bit different than the "usual" AR-10 type rifle. It's made to utilize FAL-type magazines, of which there are millions out there. There are also guys like Moses Magazines that make absolutely the finest magazines you can find, specifically for the RR (and others).

My .308 Rock River is not a lightweight carry rifle though - I bought it with the intent of using it on a bench or bipod. It's got a 26" heavy stainless match barrel and I've got a Leupold Mark 4, 8.5-25X scope on it. The rifle has been 100%, and all with my hand loads. It's a tack driver with Nosler 155 grain Custom Competition HP bullets. It doesn't much like bullets that are lighter than that. It has done very well with 168s and some Sierra 180 grain GameKing bullets I had loaded up for a different rifle.

Long story short, it continues to be a fantastic shooter. May not need a 26" barrel, but I figured you can always make it shorter - you just can't make it longer.

SIG, I have the 716 DMR its dead on accurate, Its piston driven, very easy to clean, 18" match grade barrel, Geisel 2 stage trigger, NEVER a FTF, FTE , I mean never, Its heavy but as battle ready as you can buy IMHO

No one ever mentions Armalite. My M1A scratched the auto loading 7.62 itch for me, but if I was wanting to be budget friendly and add an Ar-10 pattern rifle to the collection I'd be looking hard at this:

I have their M4 pattern 5.56 and it's been flawless
Bart specifically mentioned AR10 I thought? AR10 is Armalite while the naming convention carries over to what we like to call an "AR10 Platform" I believe Armalite are the only rifles with AR10 stamped on the receiver as I believe they own the name. Much like if it is an AR15 it is a Colt rifle since Colt purchased the AR15 naming rites from Armalite Rifle. My AR-10(T) was bought years ago when there were not as many companies marketing the AR10 rifle. The rifle was rebarreled and has match open sights and it has served me well for a few decades. I would be another suggestion for Armalite but suggest carefully looking at what is out there and going with whatever trips your trigger and pocketbook. My idea of "reasonably priced" and someone else idea of reasonably priced may not be the same as reasonably priced is a sort of relative term. :) AR-10(T)™ A-SERIES RIFLE. Someone please correct me if I am wrong as to the AR10 naming?

My Armalite AR10(T) which now has a 24" target barrel on it with a floated aluminum handguard and Centra target sights. The rifle is over 20 years old and has always served me well.

It is no problem if I want to scope the rifle or revert to the original type sights.

Being an older rifle it does use the M14 modified type magazines which I have plenty of so magazines are never a problem. If I were to do it all over again today I would likely consider and buy DPMS.

Well, me saying "never" made me wrong right off the bat, but we have 17 posts going and only 3 mentioned Armalite (counting Ron's as 1)

I just thought there would be more recommending them as an option

I believe the DPMS types have more out there than Armalite so they tend to get suggested more in any what should I buy threads. When I got mine, Armalite was about the only name going. Like the AR15 at the time there was Colt, Bushmaster and a few others, today there must be 30 guys making them and another 50 selling parts and parts kits. :)

I put together a PSA AR10. Very nice rifle. Once I get it sighted in I think it'll do the job fine.

Dang it, Ron! I drool every time you post these pics. Awesome setup.

Armalite

I am on Armalite number 6. Great experience with the first one, same with the rest. Can't comment on others, never owned one.

I'll second this. My LAR-8 has been a great rifle. As indicated though it's not lightweight, but with good glass you can reach out very well. I also have a Leupold Mark 4 on mine and can get good groups out to 600 yards.
