9 mm help

I don't have a chrono so I don't know for sure, but I load both at the lower amounts and have no issue with cycling.

Having one is not mandatory but they are very useful.

My opinion is that while it would be convenient to have 1 load for all of your 9mm guns, depending on your expectations, it may turn out that different guns like different loads.

Also as time marches on and we gain experience with both our particular firearms and their respective loads, we might find that our needs and/or preferences change. I have 100s of not 1000s of 9mm handloads that use data or components that I have replaced in the quest for a better mouse trap. On my to-do list for this spring is to shoot them and reclaim the brass.

I just picked up a Ruger PC Carbine at a Turner's Outdoor sale and took it out last week for a shake down. I had my chronograph with me to verify some 9mm loads for my SIG 320 Compact (3.9" barrel)

Shooting RMR 124gr FMJ loaded over 4.2grs of Win 231 seated to 1.130", I was getting 1050fps out of the SIG and 1150 out of the Ruger. The carbine functioned fine with the bullets loaded to that length
Only 100fps faster from a carbine length barrel over the handgun?

That's really about right. It's not as much of a gain as one would think. I actually have used that exact same load, even the oal, in my 5"sti and my colt pcc and I get almost identical results.

I guess my 250fps difference is an anomaly.
I'm thinking part of the variation might be:
Power Pistol and 115fmj bullets.

My load is running about 130PF out of my CCP pistol and 143PF out of the carbine. The required PF for PCC is 135.

I've been talking to other PCC shooters and they were saying that the loads needed for reliable function in their Ruger PCC was close to 155PF...about 1250 fps

Yeah, I'm sure the slower burning powder is going to give more difference in a PCC. Also, I'm not going for any particular power factor, I was loading for max performance and accuracy, which happened right around 1500fps with that combo. I was able to get close to 1600fps with AA#7 but the accuracy wasn't as good.

I've gotten into IDPA matches the past few years. I've found that aiming for a power factor of 125-130 (125 is IDPA minimum for the classes I compete in) gives you a full power round without beating up your gun.

Using 147 grain bullets, I've found that Silhouette and power pistol achieve this standard in the middle charge weights. Faster burning powders like Zip and W231 never get there with these heavy bullets, and barely made it with 115 grain bullets.
