Everybody ought to have three 1911s, at least.

One old 1911 military .45.

One Combat Commander in 9mm.

One Para P14 in .45 ACP. (Nothing like 13 or 14 230 grain .45 ACP bullets loaded and ready to go.)

I have other .45s and could never stick to this list. One I'd add quickly would be a Officer's ACP. Got a nice one a few years ago and would never get rid of it. Maybe everybody should have at least four.

that list would be kinda like having [physical attribute deleted], a dozen roses and a pickup truck.... I could do without the roses and pickup truck!

I think everyone should have a milspec or surplus 1911, and one that's more modern, but I don't really like them newfangled doublestack 1911s.... I'd take a single stack over 'em anyday.

I WOULD like to find a nice one in .38 Super sometime, tho.

Personally, I'll just take one Springfield 1911 that's been sent to Brother's custom or Bob Marvel and been worked over to make it uber accurate.
That'd be the competition gun.

Then I'd go with a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special for carry.

As for 9mm, I'll take a CZ every time.

Keep the Para. When they get forged frames and decent QC, let me know and I'll re-think my position. :D

One Combat Commander in 9mm

I'd swap the Combat Commander for another 1911 in .45acp (give this one all the bells and whistles: ambi safety, extended this and that, glow in the dark everything, etc). Call me old fashioned, but I like my 1911s in .45acp.

I can get by with two:

Colt Combat Commander

Colt Goverment Model

IMO, once the bugs are worked-out, there is no better combat handgun.

I guess I just missed the boat on the 1911's. I just sold my last one (a Mil Spec). I have 45's, but none are 1911s anymore.

Now, maybe one day, I'll have another. I really prefer the customs, but I'm not ready to put the kind of money the command.

UMM no

I think everyone needs a mil spec style, a 1911 that YOU take the time to build up or pick the parts and have a smith built to your specs, and one of the many semicustom jobs out there.

Para=:barf: , Seen way to many problem Paras at matchs.

I have no interest in a Mil-spec 1911.
I think people should stick to what they need and not what other people need.

That said, a full size 1911 in 9mm would be fun.

Also - one that shoots .38spcl would be fun and rare as well.

I love my Valtro - if Jardine made a 4" version, I would be all over it.

I like the Wilson with the Smaller frame and the 4" slide - that I would consider for CCw.

I have seen a awful lot of Para Ordnance bashing here. I've never had a problem with mine. I had an LDA, put 2500 rounds throught it before I decided the DA trigger was not for me. Traded for a Para Ordnance Single action. I'm 5000+ into this one and again ...no problems.

Every Wilson I have seen has been a peice of junk that wouldn't feed, jammed, and caused lots of grief to its owner. (OK, I've only seen one...but it didn't work) Maybe I'm just lucky.

I like the idea's in this thread, probably because I have similar tastes.

Para Ordnance P14.45 Limited (Stainless) Factory Stock
Springfield Champion (Blue, Loaded model)
Kimber Ultra Carry CDP
Colt Gov't .380 (Stainless)

What more could you want?

I have a Kimber Custom five-inch that's a little over a year old now...I'd love to match it up with a twin in either "original" or the new Series-II trim. Then a four-incher would be nice to round out the trio!

Well I do kinda have that collection

kinda, sorta, anyway
A)Origional 1911 - 1913 vintage with the following:

1) origional slide with rear sight knotch squared off just a bit reblued.

2) Combat commander slide (electroless nickle no less) with (2) barrels fitted 5" and 4 1/4"(std commander length barrel)
Adj sights fitted.

3) Colt series 70 top end with S&W rear sight fitted ramp front sight - blueing needed on this one.

All slided fitted to frame,
frame mods inclide:Wolff Springs all around, checkered mainspring housing, beavertail grip safty, extended mag release button, Frame hard chromed
(For the collectors Gun was already modified when purchaced by me no way to reconcvert to collactable status so I modified it to fit my needs)

B)22/45 conversion kit fitted to an essex frame to make a complete gun
Essex outfitted same as 1911 frame above with exception additional extended slide release and NO hard chrome - beadblast blue finish instead.

C) Blued Colt Officers ACP 45 auto
Modified with extended stainless beavertail grip safty. Wilson recoil spring system replacing colts. Wolff springs all around.

I think I got it pretty well covered.
I do want a 1911 in 9mm through but a Star Super B Model should fill that bill far cheaper than another 1911 even a inexpensive clone.

Damn! Iforgot the .38 Super. Always had a mild craving for one of those.

Should also have said a custom Para. Mine was built as a pin- blasting gun with a Hybrid comp. It works fine on steel plates too.

(Everyone ought to have one .45 ACP revolver too!)

All 45s

A Full size 1991a1

A combat commander

A ported "pin gun"

I'm usually past a trio. Had a Mil-Spec but did it up a bit. Have two Combat Commanders and one Champion, and two other 5"er's. All .45's and all single stacks (although I want to add a 10mm and a .38 Super to the list). I never could grasp the "9mm in a 1911" thing........to me chambering a 1911 in 9mm is like dropping a 1.8L four-banger in a Corvette!
