Hi, Im new to these forums.

Im 16 years old. I love knives and stuff like that.

I learned to resharpen when I was 12.

Ive used Case knives since I was 9. Thats mainly what I use. Carbon blades. Case knives are probably my favorite. My dad always drilled it into me that carbon steel was the best and stainless was junk. I learned to think for myself And I know its untrue;).

For some reason, Its stayed with me to make sure the blade is carbon steel.

Just thought I would introduce myself. I carry (when able) a case Sodbuster Jr., with yellow handles(Thats really a good value for the money I found out).

Welcome to THR!

Yeah, you are being raised right.
Not to mention I was called "Young-un" coming up ( and some other names too...)

We are going to get along just fine.

Steve.

Young-Un , class of '55

Nick, welcome to THR. Now that your here, we will have to convince you of how awesome being "tactical" is...;)

Well, Heck . . .

Welcome.

And, uh, where are the pictures?

I mean, a yaller sodbuster?

That's a fittin' tool for a boy or man.

Still shiny? Or has it taken on the color of a workin' knife?

TimboKhan,

Re: Tack-Tickle

Listen dude, until you get a Case with CV blades, you need to get in the back of the truck and shut up!.
*kidding*

The_Rambler,
Don't mind him, he is just big friggin' Marine, that is just jealous of my Case Peanut, with yeller handle and CV blades.

*stir stuff up*

I'm a fellow young un- two years younger than you. I too like Case with yellow handle and CV, and carbon steel in general. I haven't yet mastered the art of resharpening.
I have nothing against tactical knives, I own and use a lot, but it's good to see someone my age recognizing quality and not just buying some cheapie Winchester or Mtech.

Welcome! Many of us love carbon steel here, but there's certainly nothing wrong with many of the stainless steels out there. Have fun here and save your money! You'll need it! :)

The Rambler, welcome to our little slice of the THR.

Oh, one thing about knife guys and sharpeners--we are known to embroider the truth every few years. In fact, you can always tell when a tinker is fooling you, his lips are moving...

Having said that, I would rather spend my time with knife guys than kiss a pig. There is something about "steel" that generates a brotherhood. You'll feel it here, you'll feel it at a knife show. You'll feel it in booking, waiting for bail money...

And I say this without hesitation. If I was ever in trouble, I would call a knife collector or a tinker.

I'm sure a highwayman like that could find me someone honest.

Thank you all for the welcome.

About that Case...Its starting to patina, yes:D
Its a recent addition, about a 3 months ago. I gave my slimline Traper case to my brother as his graduation present. I had that knife for 2 years...I couldnt wear the thing out! (You wanna talk about patina, now that knife was covered:))

Thanks again
-Nick

The gang have done a nice job of welcoming you, but I'll add mine as well.

You'll fit right in.

Welcome Youngun,
I carried bone handled case knife when I was 16, that was mid 60's, wish I still had it.

*grin*

Welcome.Your off to a great start.

When I was 16 I was buying overly large fixed blades and scarey looking folders.Couldn't tell a quality knife from junk.It just had to look cool.

Now some 23 years later I'm spending too much time and money on eBay buying knives I could have (and should have) bought back then. Buy up all the Case CV knives you can, you never know what will happen.

(Not wishing anything bad happens to Case, but 20 years ago who would have thought Imperial Schrade Corp would cease to exist)

Thanks, everyone.

I cant wait to learn more from everybody, and I will input my experience with something if you need it.

And sm, fair warning, I can down a root beer or Dr. pepper quick:neener:

And sm, fair warning, I can down a root beer or Dr. pepper quick

Call me Steve.
Skip the sir stuff...

Now I go back to walking barefoot, uphill , both ways in the snow, in the middle of July, here in the South looking for "coke bottles".
Coca-Cola, Dr.Pepper, 7-Up, Barq's Root Beer, Crush (orange, grape) Pepsi, Grappette...don't matter, thems all "coke" bottles.

I was itty bitty with my red wagon and pocket knife.
Good ones were the Case Peanut, Hen & Rooster, and Boker.
I had Free Advertising knives and Imperials and Old Timers and such for "being out and about".

Two pennies each for a "coke bottle" if one cleaned it up and returned it to the mom and pop grocery store.

I was "learnt" the fine art of getting a bottle cap off with a pocket knife and 1911 pistol early.
"Learnt how to put a hole in that bottle cap for a straw, so one did not spill a Dr. Pepper in the car, anywhere else.

Cans...the fine art of shotgunning a Dr. Pepper.
I can "shotgun" one in more than one way too...

I can mentor stuff, important stuff like the art and science of shotgunning a Dr. Pepper.

You got a girlfriend?
You want her to melt like putty in your hands?

Oh I can mentor you in this area too.
Case knives with CV blades, Dr. Peppers, and a few more things...
You will have to use a stick to keep them young gals off of you.

Speaking of 'sticks"...

Fix that gal a Root Beer , or Dr. Pepper Float.
Have you nice piece of wood and your sharp Case knife.

Whittle her a Hershey's Kiss.
Not difficult, and will not take long.
Then used some aluminum foil, to wrap it just like the Hershey's Kiss candy.
Do a little tag with Darlin' on it.

Now a lady appreciates a fella that is thoughtful, and listens, and is good with his hands.
They appreciate a fella making them something with their own hands...

Traditional pocket knives passing on traditions.

Dr Pepper or Vernor's , my favs.

Welcome to THR....

don't mind us , we talk to our knives....they have names some of em.

I'll tell you what, what makes me happy is that we apparently have two young gentlemen here in Rambler and CZ that are capable of writing cohesive sentences. As a teacher, this impresses me, and there isn't even a hint of sarcasm behind that statement. I am also impressed that you two are able to behave like men and not like monkeys when it comes to your commentary. Keep it up!

rambler
welcome, I am 60 and I have learned so much from these guys it is incredible.
drinking a Dr Pepper and cleaning an old Camillus Scout I picked up recently

Welcome Rambler!

A word of caution. Be careful around some of these "folksy" characters. Before you know it you'll be shoppin' for a Stevens 311, or even worse - a 28ga.

Next thing you know you'll be hanging out at the old mom & pop hardware store with the squeaky wooden floors looking for leftover Schrade Old Timers ;) .

Dr Pepper or Vernor's , my favs.

VERNORS!!

Me thinks JTW Jr. might have spent some time as a Michigander...

One of my favorites. I used to have to run a few cases to my Brother-in-law in NC at least once a year. Those, Better Made potato chips and (reluctantly) White Castle burgers.

Again, welcome.

Chris

Case knives were hard to beat. The carbon steel was easy to put an edge on and it lasted. I carried one for years when I was young. I still do at times. I often carry my original Case as a back up deer hunting these days because I know I can always depend on it to do the job.

The newer steels are very good. They are harder to sharpen, but it is a learned skill that is doable with a bit of practice.

Welcome to THR Rambler.

Rup - alway suspected you had some good old southern moonshine runnin' blood in your bloodline...
*grin*

Speaking of Running...

Persimmon Patina.
I bet ya'll don't know what that is.

Persimmon trees are really neat trees.
They great tree houses, crashing homemade kites into, putting initials into with a pocket knife and the wood, is quite interesting.

Oh it whittles just fine, the grain has character and makes for some really nice projects.
Projects like "ball-in-chain" , spoons, mustard spreaders, even them cross sticks for a home made kited with newspaper.

Persimmons, being a fruit, attract some critters , both those taking for meat, and those pesty ones that need taken care off.
Sorta neat to be sitting up a Persimmon Tree, with home made sling shot, make from a fork of Persimmon wood, whittled and done up with a pocket knife, and shoot that feral cat from above using a rock, a marble, or a ball bearing obtained from a Fillin' Station.

Quail.
Always respect the quail - Robert Ruark.
Danged feral cats messing with my quail and I was raised to dish out manners to feral cats.
Slingshot worked for this.

Persimmon.
Like any fruit, they have to ripen up.

Nobody can really share how to tell when a Persimmon is ripe, but one darn sure knows when one they bite into - ain't.
Folks remember this...
Rite of passage, life lesson, whatever one chooses to call this, just the way this is done.

Persimmon Patina, is that face made when one bites into persimmon that is not ripe.
It lasts a long while, and one never forgets.

You ain't gonna get stuff like this from a room with "Education" on the door, and for darn sure not at Sarah Brady's web site.
