AA9 or H110

Looking for some honest feedback. I'm currently using H110 for my 357Mag. 17 gr with a 158G pill; and 19 gr with a 140G pill.

Thinking of trying AA9. Is it cleaner? Better performance? Any comparisons out there with these two powders?

I like AA#9 very much, then again I like H110 very much as well. Sorry, no help I guess..:)

Seriously though, in reference to .44mag I have developed loads with both and the AA#9 barely edged out H110. I am talking a few feet per second for velocity and consistency through my chronograph. I will say that if you want the full magnum boom and flash you most likely will not out shine H110.

In my experience, AA9 is a little more versatile - it can be loaded to somewhat lower pressures - but not quite as good when maximum performance is in the cards. I've generally stopped using it, as I find 2400 fills that role better, while nothing is as good for max loads as H110.

My favorite powders for .357 magnum and .44 magnum high end loads are 2400, AA#9, & H110. The only problem I experience with AA#9 is it leaks powder from my Lee powder measure much worse than the other powders.
I use magnum primers with H110 but not with 2400 or AA#9.

I've run both in my Freedom 83, the only of my 357s I shoot max loads in. To me, it's a toss up, as both are very clean and perform quite well with 158gr jacketed. I get a few fps more with 296/110, but that's about it. Both are very accurate in that revolver

If you like H110 and are looking for a new powder that's cleaner and still gives that H110 power try Vihtavuori N110.

Only downside may be if you use a powder dispenser, N110 is extruded and may give a higher deviation on your throws.

Pretty much like has been said, it's a toss up on what your going for. I have used both but use #9 more nowadays due to the less flash and wider range between start and max in most cases.

I throw 13grs under a 160gr cast hp for right at 1300fps outta my GP-100's and it gives great accuracy. Aside from that I also load it in my 10mm, 30 Carbine, 44, and 454. To me it just seems to play better in what i use it in.

Hodgdon data shows H110 producing the higher velocity, over Accurate No 9.

I am on the 2nd pound of no9. 163 gr lswc, 12.1 grs No 9, Fed Mag primer, Starline brass. NO 9 seems to be a position sensitive powder? Going by felt recoil. No chronograph to test.

Alliant 2400 seems to be more accurate @ 13 grs, for me.

Beware of Accurate No 9 load data. Old data uses a lot more powder then current Hodgdon data.

AA#9 works best in my pistol and lever action rifle.357 Magnum. Great accuracy and cleaner burning than Win296/H110.. I use near max AA data. Accurate Arms 1st manual they used CCI standard pistol primers and later data they used magnum primers. I use CCI 500 standard primers and great results!

Another plus is that Accurate and Western powders seem to be priced a bit less than the other brands, at least what I've seen locally lately. Another good one to consider would be Ramshot Enforcer aka AA4100.
Lil Gun.......not so much, unless you're a fan of blistered hands from hot steel.

I like W296/H110 alot. Agreed, it has some limitations but if you work within it’s listed capabilities it is great

I use the powder in 357 Mag and .410 Shot shells.

I think I’ve tried it in 460 S&W Mag but I’ve slept since then and my reloading books are in the basement. I may have used Accurate 1680 as well in the 460 but look up reputable data before you indulge.

I’d use W296/H110 in 44 Mag and 41Mag if I ever want max loads.

The last 2400 I used was when it was made by Hercules. I’d get to much unburned powder in the shells. It did not cause me problem but I was worried. I’ve not tried Alliant’s iteration of 2400.

I tried one pound of IMR4227 and I could not get the velocities I got with W296.

I might need to try Accurate #9. I like other Accurate powders that I use, #2, #5, #7, 1680, and Western True Blue.
