I have been posting videos of my competitions as I have grown and the discussion came up about folks sharing match vids and gear discussions. My goal is for all the competition shooters, new or seasoned, highly skilled or not, to share their videos, ask questions, compare gear/stages and techniques. We have a sticky about “find your game” well this can be the thread for “this is what action shooting looks like” to help people get started or get better

For starters, this is video from yesterday’s 3 gun match. It was my best match I’ve shot. The stages were busy but straightforward, not a lot of thinking or shooters choice involved,

I don't have any vids that are interesting enough to share but will work on that for the future.

I think having a thread like this is a good idea so I wanted to get the ball rolling and put up a few words.

My main thing at this time is Steel Challenge (SCSA). I'm currently classified in four guns (actually 5 but my scores for my one and only open rimfire rifle outing were lost). My classifications are in Optical Sight Revolver (OSR), Iron Sight Revolver (ISR), Open Rimfire Pistol (ORFP) and Carry Optics (CO). Sometime this year I will put up enough scores to add Production, Limited, Iron Sight Rimfire Pistol and take another crack at Open Rimfire Rifle. My main focus has and will remain OSR for this year. I would also like to do a little more ICORE shooting, ICORE is basically USPSA for Revolvers.

My immediate goal is to reclassify to M in OSR (SCSA). As of this time I'm at 80%, right in the middle between A and M. So I'm going to make OSR the thing I practice and if I shoot any other guns it will be Rimfire Pistol (or maybe rifle) as I think drawing an auto-loader from a holster with it's much different feel and grip will gum up progress. To break it down into simple terms, I need to lose 1/4 seconds per string in each of the 8 official stages. Or another way to put it is I need to lose 8 seconds total in an 8 stage match. Sounds easy in theory but in actual practice is a bit of a challenge. I would like to have achieved M by Sept. 1 Of course sooner would be better but the goal is September.

At the beginning of the year I started goofing around with my dry fire program. I had taken a vacation from practice and needed to get back and do so with a little more focus from last year. Starting in earnest the beginning of March, I have now what I think is a good program, designed to practice both SCSA and ICORE skills. I think I might have mentioned this in another post, to get things going in a more aggressive manner I have my long and short term goals. To start to close the gap between where I'm at now and the 85% I need for M in OSR, I made up what I call The 50 Day Steel Challenge Challenge. In short 50 days where I handle the gun every day at least for a few minutes and keep track of my training using a log book. I'm at about day 7 of the challenge, the 50 days (with a few extra bonus days for days missed) will end right around April 30. At that time I would have shot in about 4 SCSA matches and will have enough data to determine if my training program is effective or in need of a rework.

More on my training program and my gear to follow...

    @thomas15

Next match, ask someone to run your cell phone from about the 4 or 5 o’clock position if you are a right handed shooter, focus on filming you and. To the targets, you will easily see where you lost time on each string of fire

Another idea is the shot coach app, it enables you to film 2 people on a stage and it compares the movements side by side

This was my first foray into serious 3 gun back in 2016.

I have come quite a ways since these were filmed but haven't put videos together yet. I think this thread may motivate me to get them done.

I have learned a LOT about running shotguns over the last few years. Shotgun was definitely my weak point (still is, but a little less so).

I have been to the last 2 Hard as Hell 2 gun matches and have video, I just need to get it edited and uploaded.

always enjoy your vids. I'm not going to post any of mine here as people might mistake them for "how to" videos and in my case it's how to suck.

@Corpral_Agarn the “hard as hell” 3 gun looks so much fun, it’s a bucket list match of mine

@1KPerDay share the videos anyway, they can be to teach others or get tips of how to improve, or to help someone who had never shot a match but wants to, to get the courage to just go and do it. I appreciate watching others shoot, there is much for us all to learn

Awesome vids, I’m jealous of the course of fire and weapons selection

Wow I can see why you won, can you share specs on the gun and some keys to your training? How long have you been shooting uspsa?

It's a Cheely Custom Gunworks 5" Extra wide, extra heavy frame

I've been shooting for about 15 years now. I started in IDPA and then went heavily into USPSA. These days I shoot once a week or maybe once every other week for 2-300 rounds in practice and matches on the weekend. When I was pushing to make GM I was dry firing every day for at least 30 minutes, two live fire practices a week and a match on the weekend.
