Affordable 22LR (Lowest shipped pricing)

How about 22 long or .22 short?
This is our 3rd 22LR price monitoring thread spanning two component shortage cycles - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/22lr-for-less-than-15-20-500-shipped.853059/

While I am retired, my time is somewhat not unlimited as I still have a wife of 28 years who insists that most of my retirement time BELONGS to her in fulfilling her retirement wishes.

Since I made the vow that goes like ... "to love and to cherish ... til death", I either have to kill her or "cooperate". 😉

Besides, she makes really good deep fried tacos that are delicious ... 🌮🌮🌮 ... And I like to eat ... So ... I have to 😘

Thanks for your efforts, @LiveLife ! You have put a lot of hours in on this project and many of us really appreciate it. Thanks also to the others who submitted info on other 22LR deals. The topic is 22LR, which is far and away the most popular chambering on the planet. If others want to do similar research on other cartridges, there is nothing to prevent publishing their results in their own threads.

How about the good stuff? Eley? SK? Lapua? Remington Blue Label? CCI Match?
I'll definitely check the Walmart I used to work at for lowered prices on Fed. Auto Match, I was going to zero the 10/22 today anyway. I put the El Paso 3x I bought a while back on it, as the Simmons 3-9x50 my son had on it was unusable.

How about the good stuff? Eley? SK? Lapua? Remington Blue Label? CCI Match?
The first 22LR price tracking thread was started after the "Great Shortage" when price dropped down from $50-$60/500 - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ammo-for-sale-under-30-for-500-rounds.825048/

Then the second thread was started when price dropped below $20/500 (Took 2 years) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/22lr-for-less-than-15-20-500-shipped.853059/

And here we are with another protracted "Shortage" that started at less than $50/500 with many THR members predicting due to supply chain issues, 22LR won't ever go back below $30/500 and we are already below $25/500 shipped - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/affordable-22lr-lowest-shipped-pricing.902560/

So this thread is currently tracking 22LR pricing at below $25/500 to $30/500 with the exception of CCI SV and Blazer 40 gr LRN "boxed" as Blazer now comes in 38 gr "loose bulk" because they produced smallest consistent groups at 50 yards compared to other "bulk" 22LR.

That's why more expensive ELEY/SK/Lapua, etc. 22LR are not being listed.

How about the good stuff? Eley? SK? Lapua? Remington Blue Label? CCI Match?
For the casual plinker needing "real world" accuracy of minute-of-soda can at 50 yards and minute-of-2 liter bottle at 100 yards, most "loose bulk" 22LR will get the job done.

But for vast majority of plinkers needing "real world" accuracy of minute-of-soda can at 100 yards, "boxed" CCI SV/Blazer 40 gr LRN and "boxed" Aguila 40 gr LRN/CPRN are the "good stuff" at more affordable pricing. :)

I'll definitely check the Walmart I used to work at for lowered prices on Fed. Auto Match, I was going to zero the 10/22 today anyway. I put the El Paso 3x I bought a while back on it, as the Simmons 3-9x50 my son had on it was unusable.
For the retail price of "loose bulk" Auto Match which has produced more flyers for my 10/22 at $19/325 ($29/500), you may want to consider ordering "boxed" Blazer or "boxed" Aguila 40 gr LRN/CPRN at comparable pricing - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...-shipped-pricing.902560/page-12#post-12672658

Here's a repost from another thread - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/22-lr-buy.921081/#post-12677843

I've been stocking up on Auto Match, a box or two at a time because my .22's seem to like it alright.

I'm paying $24/325. It must have come down some in this past few months. I'm buying it retail at a lumber yard, so not terrible. I'm pretty sure Wal Mart and the lumber yard were same price last I checked some months ago.
$24/325 translates to $36.92/500.

That's more than what's posted in the entire listing of "Affordable 22LR ..." thread including CCI SV 40 gr LRN for $35/500 and "boxed" Blazer 40 gr LRN for $32.70/500 which have consistently produced smallest 1/2" to 3/4" groups at 50 yards for me compared to most retail "bulk" 22LR comparison tested - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...-shipped-pricing.902560/page-12#post-12672658

If you want something that will cycle semi-auto action at lowest price, Armscor 36 gr CPHP is $24.49/500 and produced 2" groups at 25 yards out of GSG 1911. It also reliably cycled my Gen3 Glock 22 with Advantage Arms 22LR slide kit and worked well in 10/22 and T/CR22 producing around 1.5" groups at 50 yards.

And if you want smaller than 1" groups at 50 yards, hard to beat "boxed" Aguila 40 gr LRN/CPRN at $29/500. Below are "typical" 50 yard groups with factory 10/22 and accurized 10/22 and T/CR22.

10/22 at 3000 round count, free-floated factory barrel, "dirty" barrel with one bore cleaning at 2000 round count, factory trigger at 4.7-4.8 lbs down from 7.5 lbs new, factory bolt - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...lector-3-break-in.859106/page-3#post-12110978

10/22 at 6250 round count, free-floated factory barrel, bore cleaned at 2000 round intervals, Volquartsen target hammer kit with 2.25 lb trigger, CPC reworked factory bolt (Pinned firing pin, squared bolt face, etc.), Tactical Solutions V-block, etc. (Note target 1" squares, "boxed" Aguila groups on top left and bottom right compared to "loose bulk" Aguila groups at bottom left) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...22lr-on-the-cheap.898035/page-2#post-12304052

T/CR22 at 3000 round count, Volquartsen target hammer kit with 2 lb trigger, Power Custom Match bolt, etc. (NOTE: "boxed" Aguila) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...22lr-on-the-cheap.898035/page-2#post-12180149

There has been a long-time rumor out there that AM22 is the ammo that didn't make the Fed #719 HV Match spec. AM22 is definitely not of the same quality as #719, but it can shoot a tight group when the stars align.
For me, "boxed" CCI SV/Blazer 40 gr LRN have always consistently produced smallest groups with minimal flyers but "loose bulk" Auto Match has produced larger groups with more flyers. Currently with 10/22 factory barrel at 7000 round count, "boxed" Aguila 40 gr LRN/CPRN are producing consistent 3/4"-1" groups without flyers but Auto Match continues to produce larger groups with flyers in comparison.

Try Norma TAC22.

I've read some good reviews and I tested some SAT, worked out very well at 50yds in my Bergara, sub .5" 5 shot groups, single SD for two separate 10 shot strings. Took it out to 307yds on Sunday with no problem keeping it on an 8" plate. For practice off off props and position shooting it works pretty well out of my rifle. Better than "minute of soda can", but not as good as Lapua or SK.

It's not exactly budget ammo, but it's a lot cheaper than Lapua LR for practice. I'm ordering a couple more bricks today.

The other day I was at the range, and the guy who sold me my Gx4 was there shooting his Tandemkrossed TX-22, and was shooting TAC22. He had some problems with it, mostly failure to extract. He had some CCI Mini Mags with, the gun ran those perfectly.
He had some TAC22 with from a different lot that he hadn't had any problems with, but he was saving those for Steel Challenge matches.
He was going to save the 'bad' lot of TAC22 for his Bergara bolt.

Norma Tac-22 I tested would not cycle the slide of Advantage Arms 22LR slide kit for Gen3 Glock 22 but CCI SV reliably cycled the slide. Aguila and Armscor also reliably cycled the slide.

It's standard velocity, although it gets just over 1100FPS from my 18" barrel, so probably why it's not cycling. As I said, in my bolt gun it hangs well at least out to 300yds, so it's cost effective.

CCI Mini-Mags are my standard "go to" when a semi won't cycle something. I've got a Ruger SR22 that will just about only run reliably on Mini-Mags.

As for value and prices, I have at least 2 bricks of the old Winchester Wildcat LRN ammo, priced at $10/500 in a sealed container. I compare that $0.02/round price to what is out there now and, while I have been fortunate to first Gander Mountain (now dead and gone) and Academy put on good sales when their stores opened in this area. I have multiple boxes of Winchester bulk (222, 325, 550) at prices around 4-5 cents/rd.
Unfortunately, I don't get to shoot much as the indoor range is too short and too expensive and the membership fees and "sweat equity" required at the nearest outdoor range precludes my use of both. :barf:

I tried over 12 different types of.22 in my new TX22 . Surprisingly it shot the best group with the Federal Auto Match even over Wolf match and Eley prime ammo . The only ammo that I had trouble with feeding was Aguila super extra copper plated ammo . It didn’t like that for some reason . My 60 and 10-22 both shoot the smallest groups with the Wolf ammo .

Update: Price listing to below $30/500 and include lowest price CCI SV and Blazer 40 gr LRN.

I just bought a brick of Lapua LR for $198.32 delivered from these guys:

Mostly cause they were the only guys that had any. A lot of the "premium" stuff is unattainable right now.

Hey LiveLife! How do you decide when to stock up? What trends/criteria do you look for?

I'd love to make a bulk purchase (particularly of CCI SV), but I want to be reasonably confident that I'm buying as close to the bottom as I can.

I'm sort of doubting that the $25-30 stuff is performing as well at 200 yds though..
This is the "Affordable 22LR (Lowest shipped pricing)" thread ... ;)

And CCI SV/Blazer "boxed" have been producing 1/2"-3/4" groups at 50 yards and Aguila 40 gr LRN/CPRN "boxed" have been producing 3/4"-1" at 50 yards and 1.25"-1.5" at 100 yards for me.

50 yard groups with T/CR22, KSA bull barrel, Power Custom Match bolt, Volquartsen hammer kit with 2 lb trigger pull - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...22lr-on-the-cheap.898035/page-2#post-12180149

My hobby of 40 years has been Technical Swing Trading using 5/30 MA and RSI/MACD reference line crossovers to identify short-term stock price rebound to BUY/COVER and price peaking to SELL/SHORT (Electrician father who stock traded as hobby got me started) - https://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui

During past 30 years, I have gone through several ammunition/component shortages and last "Great Shortage" spanned from 2013 to 2019 (6 years) while we tracked availability/price trend of ammunition/reloading components - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...not-a-discussion-thread-link-required.910908/

Regarding 22LR price tracking to identify bottom, below $30/500 shipped thread was started in 2017 - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ammo-for-sale-under-30-for-500-rounds.825048/

Then in 2019, 22LR price fell below $15-$20/500 shipped - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...15-20-500-shipped.853059/page-2#post-11173609

For the 2013-2019 shortage cycle, $14-$17/500 shipped was the absolute bottom for most brands with heavy rebound activity at $18-$20/500 shipped then we moved onto current Covid-Pandemic shortage cycle starting 2020.

I am not sure if we have hit the bottom of current cycle as other shortage components like primers have recently started falling from $100/1000 with blips of $50/1000 here and there popping up even down to $42! 👍 (So I am thinking prices are still falling) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ad-link-required.910908/page-18#post-12681522

Since I am well stocked with 22LR, I will continue to sit on the fence and follow the price trend while I shoot my stock bought at $16-$18/500. If you need to buy 22LR to shoot/plink now, Armscor at less than $25/500 has been better than Federal 525/550 bulk value blue/red boxes (2"+ at 50 yards out of 10/22) producing around 1.5"+ groups at 50 yards with 10/22 and around 2" groups at 25 yards with GSG 1911 and reliably cycles Gen3 Glock 22 with Advantage Arms 22LR slide kit.

If you need something more accurate, it's hands down "boxed" Aguila 40 gr LRN/CPRN for me with consistent 3/4"-1" groups at 50 yards with accurized 10/22 and T/CR22 (BCA dedicated 22LR upper testing to follow soon) as "loose bulk" boxes of 38/40 gr produce slightly larger groups.

I have new blue boxes of 800 round Federal Champion, new lots of 325 round Auto Match and black 500/525 "boxed/loose bulk" boxes of Blazer among others including new lots of "boxed/loose bulk" Aguila to do 30+ comparison testing for one year update so new listing of accurate to less accurate 22LR should be coming forth soon as well - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...cheap-bulk-22lr-ammunition-comparison.908102/

In my experience, people buy the spendy stuff because they need that level of precision. I am sure those who need that appreciate a tip about where it can be obtained, and especially at a lower price than the norm.

The rest of us are thankful that we do not require that degree of precision, and appreciate the value guidance that this thread offers. Thanks to all who help to make our sport more affordable!

Perhaps a new thread is warranted for the "Match 22LR"?

I tried tweaking the search parameters on AmmoSeek but can't get to list the real "high end" stuff, just the typical "match" ammunition - https://ammoseek.com/ammo/22lr?nr=50&ekw=aguila cci norma&ikw=match

I referenced listing from this post - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...t-shipped-pricing.902560/page-9#post-12387118

2. Wolf Match 7/16"
3. SK Rifle Match 1/2"
