Hey guys, A work friend just called me with a sale of of a supposed lifetime. He impulsively bought a Kalashnikov Variant last week for $450 & realized it served no practical use other than ego tripping boasting power. Well he is finally reaping the consequences from the impulse buy, as he has bills to pay & could of really used that money he blew on the AK.

So to make a long story short, he tried to sell it at a local gun shop but they only offered him $300. So he called me up today & asked if I wanted to buy it for $350 cash. So now I need some help from yall to decide if this rifle is worth buying.

The rifle is a Maadi MISR S/A chambered in 7.62x39 with a folding stock and has both pistol and a forearm grip. The gun stock is polymer not wood. He is also throwing in 3 30rd mags, 2 AK cleaning kits, and 100 rds of Wolf 7.62.

So now I ask my fellow THR members to help me decide if this a good deal or one that I should pass? I have absolutely no practical need for a Kalashnikov clone, as my 12 gauge pump & 30-30 can do everything it can if not better in my opinion. However I am always looking out for sweet deals and although I could care less on having a high cap semi-auto rifle, I also have yet to see one under $500 bucks!

That sounds like a pretty good deal especially in todays environment. Id buy it if I were you. If you dont like it Im pretty sure you could make your money back.

Great deal. If you dont want it, some others would definitely take it off his hands for that price. Myself included, hah.

After some searching here's the info I found on it

"In 1999 the MISR S/A rifle was imported without triggers, sears, pistol grips,or hammers. US parts were added to comply with United States Code Title 18,Chapter 44,Section 922,Paragraph (r)."

I know nothing about Kalashnikov type rifles but am quickly learning. So correct me if I am wrong. This is an AKM rifle which is a modernized AK-47 variant, and in order to comply with 922, U.S. parts were used to replace the triggers, sears, pistol grips,or hammers. Are all AK parts interchangeable with this rifle?

While not "all" pretty much most parts common to the semi-auto AKM clones.

What you have stumbled on, Section 922, paragraph R, is simply the parts count bull that we have to put up with. Importers replace foreign made parts with American made parts (usually identical parts, just made in the USA) to get the foreign parts count to 10 or less so that you can use mags over 10 rounds.

Here's a link to a current THR thread on this very subject

Fortunatly, this work has been done for you by the importer, so you don't have to hunt down the parts (not too hard for AKs, harder for other rifles).

Buy it (if you can) and enjoy it. $350 is a pretty good deal if it's in good shape. You may find that you want to keep it.

Much appreciated Avenger!

As far as the gun in questions shape, the internals looked brand new especially the rifling marks in the barrel. However the finish of the rifle looked like it was carelessly sprayed with damn spray paint. So needless to say there are alot of spots on it where the spray paint or whatever has chipped off from handling the gun generally. Is this normal with AK clones and such. I'd be happy if it had the original blueing left on no matter the condition, but spray paint, ***?

Also I just want to make sure the rifle is worth $350 in the normal market back before the elections and this ever so increasing gun bubble were in.

An AK pattern rifle ain't supposed to be pretty. If I were you, I'd buy this thing, get it refinished, and still come out ahead. I'd do this in a second, even if the thing was fingerpainted hot pink.

Don't worry about it. Most AKs come with a rough/crude finish. It's not a pretty rifle, but a very functional rifle.

You can touch it up with Krylon or BBQ or engine paint if you are really cheap, one of the spray on finishes (like Gun Kote) if you desire, or if you really want to, you can send it off for refinishing.

If the internals and barrel look good, then, yeah, buy it.

My last few ?'s concerning this buy are the following;

1.Is $350 a steal or is it a fairly common price to be had if looked hard enough?

2. Also do yall predict that 7.62x39 ammunition will ever go back down to sub .30 cent a rd ever again? I know it's a long stretch of a question but loading 30rd mags when your starting supply of ammo is zilch is gonna be damn expensive!

3. If I purchase the gun & realize that it is just too "damn expensive" to shoot with current 7.62 ammo prices and shortage will I be able to with out a doubt quickly sell the rifle for the $350 I paid for it in todays market?

4. Where would you rate a Maadi Misr-S/A on the AK-Clone list, towards the top middle or bottom?

I again appreciate all the help and lol if it weren't for you guys I would of passed on the deal. Now ive reconsidered, but I just want to make sure that buying this gun won't be out of foolish impulse. I'm only considering the gun if it is a true bargain and not one that can be found any day if looked hard enough. Because as all of yall know true Bargains hold a priceless feeling when bought.

1. Very good price. New Saigas are rare for under 400.
2. Tough to say.
3. Yes.
4. Middle.

Maadi S/As were made on russian equipment, they also have a chrome lined barrel (a huge plus when a lot of the ammo found can be corrosive).I would also rate the it to be middle of the scale of AKs. They were all finished poorly, unlike their steyr imported predecessors. I bought one, really liked it, but a buddy has it now. I would definately rate it more valuable than a WASR10, and we see those for about $550 around here. Gunbroker has been very generous to the Maadi S/A, some bring over $700. BUY IT!
