AK vs AR apples to apples accuracy

Hey everyone cheers for 'their' team. That is understandable. A common thread with supporting the ak over the ar is this: Ak supporters always want to compare accuracy with the open sights. Accuracy with cheap ammo. Accuracy from an unsupported firing position. Anecdotal accuracy as in shooting at objects. Those are all viable situations that would be typical in hunting or combat use of the rifle. Unfortunately none of those scenarios eliminate the 'human' factor. There is a very definite reason no one 'straps' down and ak with a solidly mounted quality scope and shoots groups...

There it is. :)

I love this thing. I also have an extended cheek piece for my PSL. It makes a difference for me.

First off, there's this word "accuracy" being used, but often (I believe) it's misunderstood and/or confused with "precision".*
I gotta say, I don't get it. If a rifle hits where you point it it is accurate. If it doesn't, it's not.

As for the targets:
The target on the left is what we are all looking to achieve.
The next one over looks like we got the wrong dope on.
The second from the left looks like we are looking at the target, not the front sight.
The one on the right, well some people need to take up golf.

Accuracy is important for marketing but in real combat it is not even mentioned.

That's what I'm digging at. You got my point. All the "accuracy debates" are actually more about precision than they are accuracy.

If you define accuracy one of the typical ways, namely the average, standard deviation or maximum distance of a group of shots from the point of aim, then it's not really possible to have an accurate rifle without also having a precise rifle. You can have a precise rifle that is not accurate (because the aiming system is incorrectly aligned), but not the other way around.

In those example images, the first and third are not equally accurate OR precise.

Nathan, I have been in combat, it matters. Everything matters when you are fighting for your life. Having more range, accuracy and lethality is extremely important.
As Colonel Hal Moore said after the battle of the Idrang Valley, the M-16 made the difference. It was a wonderful weapon, his words. Do what you want with your life. I really don't care much what other people like but I am firmly against wrong remarks.
An Ak is just as good at firing for effect at short range but that's all. Battles the world over for 50 years have shown the M-16 the dominate and superior fighting rifle regardless of what fan boys think. In part to it's far greater range and accuracy.

so if we dont bow to the almightly illusion that nostalgia paints for us that is the M16.. we're hillbillies?

It is not an illusion. You ignorance and disrespect for the military is well known.

Bickering on thanksgiving about AKs? Surely we have something better to do
