I've tried to like the USP. I just don't like the feel of it. (I have a USP 45 full-size.) Granted, I've only fired a couple of magazines through it, so I don't have a lot of shooting time with it.

Something about it just doesn't feel right. I compared it to my G21 and it's actually the same size, but it seems bigger. It doesn't feel very well balanced. It has a high bore line. It's wide. That slide is the same width as the G21, but it seems bulky.

I put a match trigger kit in it, thinking that would impart some undefinable trait to it, but it didn't, of course.

I do like some aspects of it - I like the way the safety works. You can safe the weapon while racking the slide, while unloading, while cocking, etc. I know they have a reputation for extreme durability and reliability (of course, I didn't have any problems with the 20 rounds I fired through it).

I'm not crazy about holding it. I'm used to Hi Powers, 1911s, P7s and Glocks. They all sit lower in the hand and feel much more natural (well, I don't like the Glock's grip angle). The HK feels like I have to look up higher to align the sights and I don't like it. It doesn't feel as good in my hand. It feels top-heavy. I feel like I'm holding an old VW bus, with 3 feet of luggage tied to the top. I don't enjoy holding it, like the perfect grip of a HP.

Pardon my rambling. I guess I'm toying with selling it, but have sold so many guns that I regretted later, that I'm torn.

Any of you love it or not? I guess on the other hand, it might make a good camp gun, since it has such good weather resistance... Sigh...

I think I need my head examined...

I own a FS Stainless USP9 and I do like the feel of it and the features (including the fact it can be set up for southpaws), on the other hand I will never own a Glock, don't like the feel and to me they seem bigger/blockier then the USP does.

Having said that I currently have it up for sale, (never shoot it, only 175rds thru it) but am also a little torn in that part of me feels I'll regret selling it so in a way I can understand where you're coming from :)

Oh, and for the record, No your not the only person who doesn't like USP's

Yes, you are the only person who doesn't like the USP. :neener: You better just nip this in the bud and send me your USP .45 :D

Everyone has different hands, different preferences, etc. Some hate all polymers, others hate steel guns. I'm not a huge fan of some very popular weapons. It happens. You're not nuts. It's a free country, and you can like whatever guns you want.

Plus, if you sell it and end up regretting it, just buy another one. ;) I'm sure there'll be USPs aplenty for a long time.

you are the only one

Since you are the only one who does not like the USP, you must send me all of your guns as pennance.

Actually, I am not a huge fan of the full size HK USPs, but I have one of the HK 2000s in .40 S&W and its juuusssstttt Rigggghhttttt. The full size was too big, the Sk too small and the 2000 is just right. Of course, it was full of luke warm oatmeal, but the little girl I bought it from said she bagged 3 bears with it, so thats cool. She was wearing a bearskin cape and it fit her just right.

Personally, I think the full size HK is ungainly, but the more compact 2000 is pretty nice.

No, and it's not uncommon for different folks to have different preferences, either ...

Personally, I've never cared for the USP series for different reasons, but it's mostly the grip profile and trigger that would prevent me from ever spending my own money on one.

If I were issued one, however, it wouldn't cause me to lose any sleep. It's really just another service-grade pistol produced with a cost-effective polymer frame and a standard service-type trigger. All of the USP's I've handled and shot have been acceptably accurate enough for service/defensive purposes.

I just don't care for them, although I dislike the compacts less than the standard models.

Maybe you should change your name to MrTinyPaws.

:neener:

Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.

No gun is perfect for everyone. Find the gun that is perfect for you, and be happy.

Heh. The USP-9 is what my department issues. I like the Variant 1 safety set-up (down to fire, all the way down to decock); the sights are decent, the pistols are typically accurate ... But, I doesn't fit my hands that great, either; I can't stand the looks of the huge trigger guard, and I don't like the strange cheese-grater feel of the frontstrap, the long slide release nor the sharp, angular mag release.

The USP-45 magnifies the features I don't like about the USP and is even chunkier and uglier ... So, no -- you're not the only one who doesn't like the USP. I will grant that the USPs are exceptionally reliable (in my experience) and quite durable. Just a matter of taste, I guess.

I liked the way a full size HK USP felt in my hand, but as someone already said, it's just to damn big. I really like the HK USP Compacts. I picked one up in 45 and I really like shooting it. Some carry it, but I think the compacts are still to big for effective CCW. For that I'll stick with my PM9 or S&W 642.

I had one. Loved the fit and finish, but felt like a huge reach to the trigger. And had a horrid trigger as well. Very reliable, just big, ugly and long mushy trigger IMO.

Considering you've only had about 20 rounds through it, I'd vote for putting in some more trigger time before you make any decisions. The few more rounds won't destroy any more value than the first 20 did (really, it was the first one that did the most damage) and, either...

A) You end up liking it. Huzzah!

B) You end up disliking it, and selling it for a moderate loss. Better luck next time!

C) You end up disliking it, but put it aside for a rainy day, or for a gift to someone, or merely for variety's sake.

So don't burn your noodle worrying about it too much, it'll turn out the way it turns out. You can't help it if a pistol doesn't fit you (but I like option C, because then you can wait until you have a good friend/family who it DOES fit, and then you don't have to worry about christmas :D)

If you have girlie manhands, you won't like it. You won't like any big guns in that matter. I find the grip on the 1911 too small, my finger would overlap, not to mention its jamomatic properties.

Stick with smaller guns for the girl handed guys. There's nothing you can do about it.

Funny how people like different things. I hear nothing but praise for the Sprigfield XD, but I cannot stand it. The XD just doesn't do it for me...poor balance, terrible trigger, bad sights, etc. Sounds like you feel that same about the USP. I love the USP and will shoot nothing else. The weird thing about guns in general is that a gun can have a flawless reputation for all aspects, but someone just won't like it. I feel that way about the XD and you feel that way about the USP.

There was a time when I thought I just had to have one. That time has passed.

Now, I can say that having never owned one my opinion isnt worth much. I have only fired a few mags through one. Yeah, I liked it, but just wasnt "wowed" with it. To me, it was just an over priced gun. I am sure most of us can say that about any other gun out there too.

I wont say its a bad gun, just that I am not the USP's biggest fan.

I'll trade you my Glock for your USP. I know you've heard this already but I had to say it (type it).

If your hand doesn't fit it now, it never will. Find a gun you feel comfortable with - who cares what anyone thinks.

I'd say GnSx has got it right.

Shoot it a little more then make a decision. The more homework you do
the less regrets you'll have.

At the very least I can give it a good home with its long lost brothers.

As noted. High bore axis. I found the USP .40 that I handled to have a horrible trigger in both DA and SA, too plastic feeling, more like a Toy Gun.

What works for some folks won't work for others. I prefer my CZs, with
Glocks as a second. Low bore axis and a trigger that I can tolerate:)

The low bore axis is what finally sold me on the Glock. I thought I had made my decision on purchasing an XD 9mm 4" but I tried the Glock 19 one more time and it just felt better. Either gun is a good choice.

Quick story about my Compact USP .40

I got the gun, got the sights changed out to trijicons. Coudn't hit the 10 ring consistently at 25ft. Put the gun away after 200 or 300 rounds.

Fast forward a few months. Went through combat shooting classes, 1911 didn't work that good for point shooting, went to USP. I dont' know if it was a block in my head or what, but I can hit the 10 ring like no one's business.

It's now my usual carry, that or my kimber Ultra CDP II.

You need to spend some more time with it. I have a big Glock and big USP (G20/USP .45F). The USP is the smaller of the two guns, especially in the grip where the HK benefits from the use of metal magazines. I much prefer the HK to Glock, and enjoy shooting the USP more than my 1911s right now.

I am the opposite. There are some days I can get into a zone with my USP9, and group the shots really well. But when I fire a friend's Glock, it looks like a shotgun pattern with a super wide spread. I just can't hit anything with a Glock. I like the simplicity and durability of a Glock, but I won't buy one, because it doesn't work well for me. They just don't sit well in my hands.

You know, guns are very subjective items...they have to fit to make the shooter feel comfortable using them. Then shooter has to do there part to put that bullet where they want. There are way too many choices out there to be stuck on one that you don't like...move on & be happy w/ the ones you do like! :D
By the way, my personal preference is to stay away from SIG pistols :scrutiny: But I just love my USPs! (All 4 of them! )
