Due to the recent school shooting trajedy people around here on the high road are all scared about this empowering gun control. I dont think this is the case, aside from VERY few comments on the news the past days like "I am glad my husband isnt a hunter" (implying hunters are dangerous people) by a neighbor of the shooter (the shooter was not a hunter, but there was a high density of hunters in PA). And one of the people one the Fox and Friends morning show calling the shotgun the shooter had an ak47 and somone saying on the show "I dont know anybody who hunts with an ak47" I have heard very little. These comments were passing and not repeated. The fact this guy was a child molester is getting more media attention and I think it will remain so.

I think and hope the gun control issue that may be empowered by the recent school shootings just "blows over". But, I don't expect it to just pass without some gun control legislation being introduced at the state and federal levels.

In PA, you say additional gun control won't happen because of a the hunters. Unfortunately, I think you are wrong as many hunters do not own AK47 or clones, SKS's, AR-15's or clones. The number of hunters is decreasing even in PA. To many, they just don't want their hunting rifles and shotguns further regulated. But they are comfortable with handguns and "black rifles" being licensed, registered, and in some cases banned from ownership. PA is getting more liberal all the time as each generation grows up and is taught the "violent nature" of firearms and not the legitimate use of firearms hunting, competing, self defense, or target shooting. They simply say that the world would be a better place without guns. Yes, I know, firearms are inantimate objects and have no natures.

Most knowledgeable people agree that the current laws would have had no effect on the Amish school shootings in Nickel Mines, PA. But, the media will play this to the hilt. It doesn't matter if the new laws have any effect on stopping such a random act. The anti-gun groups simply want guns outlawed in the US and any movement toward that objective is a win for them.

So, beware and be prepared for the laws that are introduced. You may need to periodically prove your need, your safe use, your proficiency, or your mental stability. It starts with registration and goes from there.

Anyone seeing a mental health professional could be banned from ownership etc. We don't want those kind of unstable people owning firearms..... the fact is that the majority could be considered or evaluated to be unstable.

You ever notice on the crime type TV shows that when a gun is used in a crime, the police immediately come up with information that the gun was or was not registered. After a while, people just start to accept that guns should be registered thinking that they already are or it is the norm.

Maybe these school shootings will start the gun debate as part of the upcoming elections in November??

I didnt mean the large amount of hunters would prevent legislation. I meant that the people on Fox and Friends morning show said alot of people were hunters in PA, and that the lady they were talking to said "I am glad my husband isnt a hunter,". This implys hunters are violent dangerous people. That was the extent of anti gun talk i heard.

First off, it was not an AK-47 that he had, Secondly, even our Gun-control Governor says that more gun-control would not have stopped this tragedy, and thirdly PA just roundly stomped all over the recent try by grabbers to limit guns in PA.

BS...

Even though we PA hunters can not hunt with Semi-auto type rifles and handguns, there are quite a few hunter who like to shoot them.

But, the media will play this to the hilt.
I have not seen any of this. a few stupid comments about the "ak" but they are chasing the Molestation line much more...

Every time gun tragedies like this are reported its always an AK47 seriously if all the news stations actually did their job and investigated news to the fullest extent then we might have a little more understanding in this country.

I am saddened by this tradegy because the Amish are people who really wont fight back, and blaming hunters for this is absurd the amount of ignorance on television and in the news in general is astounding.

Using this tragedy as a platform to pass more gun control laws is about the stupidest thing the gungrabbers could do.

No law could have prevented it. Not even if manufacture, sale, and transfer of every single gun was banned. Not even if Feinstein gained the power of prophecy and knew it was going to happen beforehand and passed a law that stationed Delta Force, GSG9, SAS, and DEVGRU in a shack behind the schoolhouse and also mandated that all Amish become master martial artists, pass the requirements for Marine Force Recon and qualify expert marksman.

It simply would have made NO difference. The Amish would have simply told Delta, GSG9, SAS, and the SEALs to get lost. Any Amish that completed the lawfully mandated training simply wouldn't be allowed to be allowed to live in the community any more as they would not be pacifists any longer.

Even taken to an absurd extreme, laws would have done no good in this situation so what does that mean? Conclusion: the shameless gun grabbers are not interested in preventing this type of thing from happening again, but just using it as an opportunity to push their agenda.

Despicable. :barf:

Agreed Orangelo

I absolutely agree with you Orangelo but the problem is that the gungrabbers will sink as low as possible. We are in a prize fight for our way of life and these people will stop at nothing until we are all disarmed. But its also a good thing it was the Amish (let me finish) because they are peaceful people and hopefully this tradegy will spark people to realize that if they are disarmed by government or by their own free will that they become more vulnerable. I really hope this is not used for political means but it seems that every tradgedy is.

I have read and seen alot of media in Mass and other parts of the country that are calling for more gun control. My local paper today is calling for a complete national handgun ban (of course the editoral is very leftist). I hate to say it but I believe that there will be some gun control bills that will come up in both the Federal and State levels( in certain states). Once the Dems take over in Nov you can bet they will make a big issue about the shootings, with the help of the national and Local media across the country harping on more gun control. And because Republicans will be politicaly weak, I believe it will be easy for Congress to pass some very restrictive gun control measures. Their will also be some bills that will come up in certain state legislatures, like PA, NY, MA, NJ that will probably further restrict handguns and non hunting rifles. Personally I believe we are going to be in the fight for our lives in the coming months.

I also think the gun owners who do not support additional restrictions will be in the fight for their 2A rights in the coming year. It appears that the Dems are likely to take control of the House. The Foley thing certainly has not helped matters. For my part, he should never have been put into office in the first place with "tendancies" like he has. But, that has nothing to do with this thread.

Hunting license sales are down nationwide. I believe they are also down in PA, and the perception that there aren't many deer around certainly has not helped increase license sales in PA. That is why the young hunter thing was introduced, to get more hunters, further the sport, and stabilize license sales.

I never said that an AK or clone was involved in the Nickel Mines Amish school shooting.

IF PA is not becoming more liberal, why do you keep electing Democrats to Congress? Why did you elect a Democrat Anti-gun governor? Why did you pass a law requiring all handgun sales (except to direct family) to be routed through a FFL dealer with the NICs check even on individual sales?

The media types did not support the comments that current or proposed gun laws would have not allowed this tragedy to happen. They asked about why the shooter was allowed to have a semi-auto pistol that would allow for the rapid killing of the children even after the police arrived.

My post related to the future and I believe that if future anti-gun legislative agenda takes advantage of events and is framed carefully, private ownership of para-military weapons is history. There are not enough gun owners who will fall on their swords over private ownership of para-military rifles to save them. Hunters who own para-military rifles are in the minority of gun owners.

I don't want to see it happen, but events such as this one will probably lead to more proposed anti-gun legislation that gets serious attention and may pass.

I'd like to see someone come out publicly and state that what is needed are more teachers (and citizens) carrying firearms. Just think - in any of the three shootings - what the result would have been if there were any conclead carry holding teachers in any of the schools

Countertop,
Get real like that's going to happen!! That's just what we need is have teachers carrying!! The anti's will jump all over that!! Can see the headlines now about elementary schools becoming armed camps!! You're playing right into their hands with those statements!!!:banghead: :banghead:

Yesterday I stopped at a gunshop in Lancaster County

I wanted to browse the used case. In picking up a couple of boxes of ammo I heard a woman from the UK asking leading questions, e.g. you can buy an UZI, etc..

She was a reporter from hte UK serving up an anti-gun article.

Even worse was the yoyo gunowner who said this was a good gun shop because it carried hunting guns, not the evil guns "with no good purpose".

Games on.
