Ammo coming back?

My latest trek around NE Kansas when I visited several big and small shops I found almost nothing for pistol and rifle. Some shotgun ammo was available at reasonable prices. The sales guys at Cabela's say it will be a year before supplies are available. With inflation hitting us like a freight train, prices will be breath-taking.
Wishful thinking??
Projection for 2021 is 2.2%..in 2018, it was 2.4%..
In the long-term, the United States Inflation Rate is projected to trend around 1.60 percent in 2022 and 1.90 percent in 2023, according to our econometric models.

I've been a customer of SGAmmo for a while now and found them to be reliable and accurate. Since I'm on their mailing list I got a heads up yesterday or the day before that they now have a limited supply of various types of ammo - mostly Russian or Turkish as well as a bit of US stock. The interesting part were the remarks from the operator on exactly what and how they're getting new stocks - and a statement of when to expect more... I found it very much worth reading... and imagine you can find the info on their site, and maybe get on their newsletter (email) to stay current with them... Glad I'm not needing ammo at this time...

There have been Plenty of Large cases of 7.62x39 Wolf or Tula. - for months - at either —-JGSales or AIMsurplus.—

Luckily I’ve not needed it.
The September price (highest I’ve seen) of $620/1,000 rds went down to $499/1,000 rds, around December.

A torn calf muscle provided more time for amateur “analysis “ as a Keyboard SEAL / SBS Wannabe than simply being retired.

I still feel we are about a year out from anything I'd call "reasonable". After the 2008 election and the panic afterwards, I wasn't able to get sub $300/case 223 until very late 2010. After Sandy Hook late '12, it was until late '14 when I could get reasonably priced ammo.

It seems to run about an 18-24 month course, we're nearly 12 months in now.

I think the situation is improving slightly, slowly.
As someone noted, you can tell its ammo day at the local Academy by the lines formed before the store opens.
When we see that kind of behavior chill out, it will be a good sign we're back at something like normalcy.
To some degree, we're looking at one of those chicken/egg questions: People are still grabbing up everything retailers can get on the shelf and that the online ammo houses post at reasonable prices, so the appearance of shortage continues. And with that perception, the over-stimulated buying continues.

I went to Ammoseek for some 22 mag. Found a place that had a reasonable price and started to order 10 boxes.. Shipping was $129. No thanks. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid.

The sticker price still on it said $24.99. That’s early 2020 price.

Thank you. Since the beginning of the covid and dwindling supplies, J&G Sales has had it, but I wasn't sure what they went for pre covid.
Over there, same box, $90 each box of 50 rounds.

Many times I had to pickup pop bottles for the deposits just to buy ammo. Good times.
Before I was old enough to work (got my first job at 14 and lied about my age to get it), I had a paper route that paid me $6.50 per week for a 6 day week and an extra buck when there was a extra large advertizing edition, about once a month.
I bought saddle baskets for my bicycle to help with the newspapers and on Sundays (no Sunday edition by that paper) I would often patrol the ditches of the local highways and close-in county roads for pop bottles. Often times I could fill the saddle baskets and the canvas paperboy's bag a couple times on a Sunday which usually meant nearly $3 for a day's work. As a box of Federal .22lr in the yellow box was $0.39, three bucks went a long ways towards a brick. Add in the money the we got paid for prairie dog tails ($0.02 ea.) and we almost always bought our ammo by the brick.
During the summer, I was granted the use of my dad's Winchester model 62A and my younger brother used the ancient Stevens break open single shot to shoot prairie dogs and striped ground squirrels for a couple of the local farmers.

Yes, good times and warm memories!

What might be revealing is how often the hardware store receives very similar shipments...

....and whether they actually charge average Market prices in the US....per small box....it might sell much slower than happens with the fixed lower prices charged by Academy and WalMart.

The Gun Dept. Manager at our Academy told me in September that the same 20-25 guys buy all their "semi-auto" ammo every M-W-Friday as soon as their human line is "metered" inside to the ammo carts near the front door- one person at a time, literally ;).

>>>> Because two guys got into some sort of fight when they had open " Lunatic Mental Patient Visitation" at the normal ammo shelves, last spring or summer.

So, to clarify for the 'Unbelievers' o_O, Flipper number 1 (a very rare, "cheeseburger-vore" species of dolphin) is allowed through the Academy front door, to get whatever ammo he wants from the ammo Cart: worshiped, as if by ancient Druids in the Sacred Grove...

Then Flipper #2 is allowed into the Holiest of Holies.

At the BPS I work at, we get ammunition regularly throughout the week. Sometimes, it’s just once a week, but it’ll be rather substantial. Ever since we stopped online sales of ammunition, we’re getting more of it in store. However, that also means we have a longer line of people waiting outside for it in the mornings.

There’s still limitations that are set, but that’s easily beaten by having the wife, and 6 friends pool money together to buy it all out.
