Hell I thought about all of us shoot (wildcat cartridges) heck anyone who has a .223, .243, 7mm-08, .25-06, .270 and such shoots a wildcat..........Question should be......Who Shoots A Obscure Round................

Now THAT'S pretty old school!
I can do it because Bigfoot Wallace, my rifle, is a customized Springfield. The case is captured by the extractor as it leaves the magazine, and held against the bolt face while I fire it.

If it were, say a Model 700 Remington, I'd have to expand the neck of a .30-06 case with a .375 expander, then neck it down to .35 to form a false shoulder and then fire-form the case.

That would be a lot of work!

"Bigfoot Wallace, my rifle..."
That is very intertaining to me for some reason. And its not really a wildcat, and I havnt even received it yet, but I have a 357 Maximum on the way. :)
Already thinking about a 22 jet or that previously mentioned 256 win mag next. Y'all keep em coming!

I have an idea for one but making the round and something to shoot it would cost a boat load of money. Also trying to figure out a safe load for it a pain in the rear. It would be a 7.62x76.2R and the case width at the base would be 15.24 mm but it would probably be easier to keep the original case width which is 15.75mm. You start with a 600 NE and neck it down to a 308 If the case need trimming after necking it down trim it to 76.2mm and load it with a 240 grain solid boat tail bullet. Would be a guide gun for one shot kills on dangerous game. :)

That would be like having a .17-06, virtually all but useless................

It was a factory round back in the 50's if I'm not mistaken but I had a 6.5-06 in a Mauser action that was set up for long range shooting.

Force=pressure x area. Area increases geometrically with bore diameter. Bigger bores tend to be more efficient.

Adding powder capacity by moving the shoulder forward or changing shoulder angle or case taper angle is a completely different thing and the two should not be convoluted.

True, but they are often both done at the same time.

To make the .35 Whelen, for example, you simply expand the neck of the .30-06 to take a .358 bullet. To make the .35 Brown-Whelen, you take out most of the taper, move the shoulder forward, and sharpen the shoulder angle.

I had some kind of German gun one time, I think it was a rolling block or some kind of single action, that was a .22 sk. Never knew what that was. It was a nice gun in really good shape too.

I shoot a .357 Herrett, made from 30-30 Winchester cases. I also have a 22-250 Ackley. While not a Wildcat anymore, I also shoot a 6.5X 284. I have a BR rifle in this caliber, and also a long range varmint rifle. Lightman

I have a 6mm Krag in a High Wall, 338x74R in a Ruger #1 octagon bbl. I had a 243-06 in a Springfield, & 357Auto Mag in TDE AutoMag. Obsolescent rounds I have are 222Mag in TC Aristocrat, 22Jet in 6" S&W, 6, 6.5, &7 BR in MOA pistol. I'm looking for a starting load for the 338x74R with 200 & 225gr bullets.

I own quite a few, including several of my own design...

I sold a number DR's and combi's chambered for some of mine, and i even mfg'd the ammo for them. I also sold all the components so the guys could load their own.

One of my fav's is a 9.3x74R imp., here's the std. round and the "imp.",

After having said that, my personal brown bear rifle that i carried for many years, is chambered .338-06imp.

.30Herret.
Never really wanted one/need one, but friend who works at pawn shop pushed a barrel on me. 14" with iron sights. I had a T/C Contender carbine, so I had to get a pistol grip too.
Barrel laid around till one day I visited a gun shop I hadn't been in in 12yrs. In a dusty display case, was an even dustier set of .30Herret dies. For $32, they followed me home.
I formed 100cases from ofb .30/30.
Loading and shooting a Lee .309 PtGC 155gr bullet.
A really neat gun/cartridge, but very little interest/use as I much prefer to hunt with my .30/30 rifle, amoung many others..

357-44 B&D which is a 44 Magnum case necked down to 357. It's a revolver cartridge.

400-360 P which is not a wildcat but might as well be due to being obsolete. Almost anything you can find in print about it (Which isn't much.) is dead flat wrong. So it's a learning experience.

I've owned and built a few.

30hrt (Herrett tactical rimless) 6.8spc necked up to 30 or a rimless 30herrett

30ppc largo. My own invention. It was a 7.62x39 improved using a 6mm ppc shoulder pushed forward.

It still could shoot steel cased ammo
