Yes, you need a bolt, barrel, and 6.5 mags. Everything else is just standard 5.56 including the firing pin. I mistakingly said I was using a SOTA arms bolt carrier group earlier. Im using a redx arms NIB 7.62x39 bolt. The 264 lbc shoots the 6.5 grendel cartridge. You use 6.5 grendel ammo, brass, and dies. You need to know if your barrel uses the type 1 or type 2 bolt. Type 1 is 7.62x39.

Thanks for the info.

So it sounds like you need to pick your barrel first and then match the bolt to that?

So what are some of the better barrels available? Were there others you considered in addition to the one you ended up buying? Sounds like you are getting great results.

I will be handloading for this rifle if I do end up going through with it.

You will need to do your own research on that as everyone has their opinions. I just built this upper based on all of the information I found. With the results I am getting with my barrel and what others are telling me they are achieving I wouldn't even think about using any other barrel than the BHW one I am using on this build. My first upper was an AR stoner that came with a bolt. It shot right around MOA, but I think handloading will have really made a difference with it since it is a Grendel II chamber designed for longer bullets. I have also heard good things about Shilen and LIja barrels. There are alot of them out there, Alexander Arms has complete uppers and their own ammo. At the end of the day you will just have to pick based on your preference. I could not possibly be happier with my BHW.

Nicely done article and pretty much mirrors my results, thanks for sharing.
