Are guns your passion?

I don't know how I'd classify it, but...

@Chuck R. - Nice, I'll go be poor someplace else.

Always had an interest in shooting, starting in my pre-teens. Growing up in NYC with parents that had no interest, I had to struggle somewhat to achieve shooting goals, but I was persistent. BB guns to start, then managed to join a private indoor range with a jr. membership. Never had an interest in watching ball sports when I could be outside instead.

Cars and motorcycles arrived by the time I reached college. Now had the means to get to shooting and hunting spots, but found I enjoyed motorcycles quite a bit, too. Wound up doing a lot of traveling as I also enjoyed that. Managed to combine travel and motorcycles with two trips around Europe on bikes.

Army and 40 years in LE maintained the shooting interest. Now retired, still enjoying guns, cars, and motorcycles, especially off road riding. I keep saying I'm getting too old for this, pain from falling take longer to go away, but keep signing up for off road motorcycle events.

So while shooting and guns have been a part of my life, not an individual consuming passion.

Well, it used to be guns, fast cars and women... in equal measure. After two divorces and old age, scratch the women. That leaves guns and cars... but I finally wore out my 350 horsepower Ford Focus RS so its gone. That leaves guns, which has always been my strongest passion. They're cheaper than cars, that helps!

But they come in a very close 2nd to my wife.

She has access to your THR account doesn't she?

Now, seriously, as someone said earlier, I'm passionate about my right to keep them, but right now in my life, I don't shoot much as I have lots of other things going on to keep me occupied. I do want to get back into shooting sports, eventually.

Plus you can put your guns in your closet. The car won't fit and the wife will complain.

Nice collection. Good balance too: Lots of revolvers!

I went from a family heirloom shotgun to that and four hand guns between December 2020 and this week (4th handgun just a few days ago). I love mechanical things and guns fit that category. Plus they are a blast to shoot. Other interests I have are cars but not modern cars, more the 60s and early 70s, but also a lot of 90s and early 2000s. Anything with a manual transmission and rear wheel drive and manual windows is right up my alley. Beyond those things I am a big fan of opera and classical music. And I am a student of the Bible.

For all you gun enthusiasts, here is a famous scene from an opera based on Girl of the Golden West, which sports a long gun and a big revolver.

Many years ago I would have said "yes, absolutely."

But the last few years my passion around guns has shifted to the skills and knowledge base that surround firearms rather than the guns themselves.

I also greatly appreciate the history and engineering that has gone into these marvelous machines.

It's kinda funny, but after writing all that I think it's probably best to keep my answer to the OP at: "yes, absolutely".

It simplifies things LOL

At times in my life I've been pretty darn into guns. Sometimes I've been into shooting. For a few years I pretty much spent every moment reloading and working on loads. Same for hunting. Other times I was into racing, atvs first. Then bikes. Then street bikes. Then fox bodies Then imports. Then newer cars..... building chain saws.... lol.

Past 10 or so years I haven't gave a crap about shooting really. I'm not one who jumps hobby and sells everything (much to my wife's dismay) so I can always jump back into it. I did shoot 200 or so rounds the last two days. I think a lot of it is the cost. I shoot enough so I stay pretty darn good. But otherwise I feel like that is money that is gone forever. Buying a 5k dollar gun doesn't bother me. The money is still there. But the ammo of at least the bullet and powder is money I could have spent on the kids or something. Not that they go without.

Silly I know. Especially since I have more ammo than I'll ever shoot. It's a lot like golf or skiing (or buying Mopar) . Every time I felt like I just put my money in a pile and set it on fire. Lol.

I think my passion for guns was the history and the changes in the course of what we see today. The workmanship and all that. I have all the classics. The 210, 22x, M1 carbine, Garand, 1911s, Savage 99s, Marlin 39, old Smith revolvers, wingmasters, Winchester rifles, Parker doubles....... but then ugly plastic and aluminum guns came along and I got those and realized that my classics probably aren't as good at anything as the mass produced ugly junk. Lol. Now all I see are AR/AK clones and bullpup shotguns that weigh 25 lbs loaded and look like something one of Vaders storm troopers would carry.

Shooting sports, hunting, and range time used to be my main source of enjoyment. It is probably more prevalent in my life than it should be, and I’m working on righting that. More time with God and family, less range time is in the cards.

My wife used to shoot a lot with me and even went to Gunsite on one of my trips. We had fun. But she’s not as enthusiastic as I am, so I’m working on balancing my time.

But, I am using range time these days as social time, shooting with friends or introducing new shooters to our world. Also, I will definitely look to get my grandkids shooting at the appropriate time.

Perspective and balance…

https://www.dictionary.com/browse/passion
"a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or desire for anything :a passion for music."

Lets see...
I get out of bed put on shorts and a Glock (17/22) goes on my belt.
Eating breakfast, posting on THR that Glock is on my belt.
Walking the dogs, errands, in the FL heat, Glock is on belt.
Lunch, posting on THR, you guessed it, Glock on belt.
Watching TV in the evening, Glock still on belt, despite being in a "good area".

Does that sound like a strong fondness for something? Yea, and I'm enthusiastic about doing it right.
Yours is more a Glock addiction.

@Chuck R. , I'd certainly do the same if only it were a smaller % of my resources. Looks great, Sir!
