I don't like the Skinner Sights myself, neither cosmetically or functionally, as in how they are manipulated. They also almost always require a new front sight to go with the aperture. But, the Skinner Sight is not a gimmick. Aperture sights make it easier to obtain a repeatable sight picture, which is the key to accuracy with iron sights. An aperture sight will almost certainly enhance your accuracy with the 336.
In order or preference, I like:
A Tang aperture sight
The older Lyman and Redfield receiver aperture sights
The Williams FP aperture sight
