Not good for the gun for several reasons. Won't get involved in a flame war tryin' to convince those who don't believe it though. Just remember that when the gun belongs to somebody else, correct protocol dictates that you handle it as per their wishes. When it's yours, you can let it slam to your heart's content...or until it breaks.
