Aurora, CO Massacre

Brady bunch is already on national TV calling for stricter gun control and outlawing "assault rifles" & "high-cap" mags as I type this.

Also blaming it on the lunatic fringe NRA.

Also calling for the end of private sales at gun shows and in your own home without a background check and wait period.

It definitely did not help our cause that is for sure. I for one think he must have had help because I do not know how he got in from the outside of an emergency exit as they lock to the outside upon being closed. So, either someone from the inside opened it for him, he worked there and made it stay open to some degree with a piece of cardboard or something, otherwise I do not see how it was opened like that. I also heard he was using body armor and a flash bang. Where in the world does a civvy get their hands on a flash bang? Someone also told me that he kicked in the door, which I find hard to believe because if you have ever tried to go in a door like that then you know they just dont kick open especially with ease. You would get a little work out trying to get in a door like that.

I doesnt hurt our cause when you can see how vulnerable and helpless an unarmed crowd is against a lone attacker

These things happen with depressing regularity. People, generally, have come to realize that not a thing can be done about it, given the practical reality of guns in the society. The storm will blow over quickly. (Actually the argument can be made that more legal and responsible gun carriers can act as a deterrent and defense against the few maniacs like this.)

First thing I thought is why nobody shot back. Out of all those people nobody was packing? These types of things should make everyone want to exercise their rights.

Certain areas of Colorado are as liberal, or even moreso, than San Fran

We obviously need more GOOD people carrying guns. I don't thing the bad people are obeying ANY gun laws, and never will........................

These things always end with the collectivists deciding that the best way to keep guns out of the 'wrong hands' is to keep them out of all hands starting with yours.

It would have made no differance.

According to the news I have seen this morning, mass panic ensued, and everyone was yelling RUN.

So herd mentality kicked in, and they did.

How are you gonna shoot a pistol at a crazy guy with an AR-15 & tear gas while a whole crowded theater is climbing over you to get away??

And lining up in massed rows at the exits to be gunned in the back.

It seems to me your best and only chance, packing or not, was to hit the floor between the rows of seats and hope for the best.
Only if the guy comes down your row would be your only hope to start shooting back.

This happened at the same theater where I went to the midnight premier of The Dark Knight when it came out a few years ago. I went to the midnight show of The Dark Knight Rises as well, but at another theater since I'm currently not in CO.

I'm 28, and I think I may have been the oldest one in the theater at the screening I went to. There were a lot more teens than 20-somethings by a huge margin, so there wasn't a large demographic that could have been legally carrying. I let my permit lapse while I was out of the country over the last couple years. This morning I reserved my spot in a renewal CCW class.

My heart goes out to the victims. Horrible, horrible thing to have happened.

I believe Cinemark/Century have long banned CCW. I remember there was a thread about some local fellows getting kicked out of a Century in Anchorage when they tried to see a show after a Safari Club banquet. Because you know those Safari Club guys are notorious troublemakers.

Yes it is horrible. And it is easy for us to disect what happened so I wont say what I would have done. And you are right. It was prolly lots of younger people at that movie.

The important thing that the "pro 2A" folks can do is not get into heated, illogical and emotionally charged debates over this tragedy. Unfortunately there IS going to be fallout and the media will stoke the fire as much as possible. ONE PERSON (as far as we know) committed this heinous slaughter of innocent people that couldn't defend themselves.

We all know places like churches, schools, theatres, hospitals and sports venues will continue to be off limits to CC and the predators will target them first. Sad fact.

Well, here's a tidbit from CNN:
CNN Article said:
U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colorado), who represents Aurora, tells CNN's Fredricka Whitfield that the shooting raises questions about how alleged shooter James Holmes may have gotten his hands on the weapons used in the attack, but that the time is not right to speculate.

"Here's a young man who obviously had access to some very high-powered weapons and he hurt a lot of people and it's terrible ... ," Perlmutter said in a telephone interview. "Right now, it's about making sure the people who were shot and are alive get the best medical care possible and that we pray and do our best to console folks who have been hurt by this tragedy."

Perlmutter said the White House contacted him at about 5 a.m. in Washington. He said he later heard from one of his children who had planned to go see "Dark Knight Rises," but at a different local theater.

Authorities are saying at least four weapons were used, including one "AK-type" rifle and that the shooter wore a bulletproof vest and gas mask.

Take that how you will, but I do believe we'll see some backlash on "assault rifles" again, thanks to this idiot's misguided actions. It's really terrible that we have to speculate about such things following a shooting, but that's the reality of politics.

This was a horrible and senseless event that involved a response from every local police and fire department out here. This fool needlessly caused the deaths/injury of dozens of people. Gun control, as we know, won't solve this problem. A citizen with a CCW might have.

I don't want to take away from this tragedy by beating the political drum, but I hate that anti-gun groups always paint us into a corner whenever these things happen.

Do signs carry force of law in Colorado?

No. Only permanently installed weapons screening areas count.

It'd probably be pretty easy to land one in his grape.
With the whole crowd climbing & running over you screaming?

You must be one a heck of a calm, cool, and collected pistol shot.

BTW: Latest reports say S&W AR-15, Rem 870, and two .40 Glocks.
