I'm 57. Been hunting and shooting as far back as I can remember. My wife had never fired a gun until she married me 34 years ago, but she took to it like a duck to water. Our two grown daughters (27 & 30) are both shooters, but only the oldest one likes to hunt. We've already started our 3 grandsons with a BB gun on tin cans in the back yard. We're very watchful of course, and no kid touches the gun unless grandpa or dad is standing right behind him practically breathing down his neck. But I believe kids should be taught about guns early on. I think it's one of the best things we can do "for the children."

Too bad there isn't a larger share of the non-computer generations hopping online or we'd see a much better representation. However, it seems like there is no shortage of people who are getting into shooting at an early age.

22 here. Gonna be 23 in 2 weeks. Oh the "mid twenties"!! :D

Started shooting at 12. Hooked ever since. Got my little sister shooting at age 9. Mom was kinda

when I told her. But its good to start em' young.

But, thats California for ya. Put the letters "G" "U" "N" together and the whole city freaks.

The results may end up skewed towards the internet generation. Although many 50+ plus year old people do use the internet, I don't think the percentage would even come close to the number of net savy 18-35 yr olds.

I think a more random sample would come from a gunshow. Interesting poll none the less :)

Edit: Just saw that CesiumSponge already hit on this point...sorry :uhoh:

Fifteen. There are disadvantages of posting my age on a board like this, and I have recieved my fair share of crap from people who are prejudiced against my age group... I like to stand out a bit though.

im almost 22

started shooting at 12 when mt pops gave me my Marlin bolt-action .22 for valentines day(?) Thats love!!

Ive had a lull the past three years because of the Army...who woulda thought...though the deployment pay is stocking the cabinet nicely.....not as much as id like thanks to the wife :scrutiny: ....SHHH dont tell her i said that, shes Irish!

I notice a bias toward young. I voted my age, but could observe that I was shooting and had partnership in a Remington 514 at age 12 or younger. I don't note the exact age since that was not a big question at the time.

Wombat, the "prejudices" aren't so much against the young, as it is the tendencies of some/most of those young to spout off about things they have no possible way of having any experience with, but still want to claim some kind of expertise in.

Yes, I know this habit isn't exclusive to any one age group, however, it's far more often encountered in the sub-20's category.

The other problem is that the young tend to think themselves adult, and therefore equal to the real adults. The fact is, they are not. Kids don't have to like it, and there's certainly nothing they can do about it, other than just wait, but that is how it is.

Remember, us "old farts" were once teenagers too. And some of us can actually still remember being that young. A 15 year old, on the other hand, can't make the claim that they've ever been 30, 40, etc. ;)
( On the other hand, if any of you teenagers out there actually HAVE been my age, then regressed back, I really need to know how ya did it. :p )

I'm 20 and my girl is 18. I shot my first pistol when I was 13. Got my first rifle and pistol around my 18th birthday. I will start my kids out young, Steph and I agree 6 or 7 is good.

I'm turning 27 on the 17th. Wish I could say I've been shooting since I was 8 or whatever, but I'm a city boy and my parents were both anti-gun when I was growing up. I've pretty much had to teach myself everything.

I'm 54 and recently had the distinct pleasure of teaching my three oldest granddaughters how to handle and shoot a handgun, just as I did with their father many years ago.

Mid-40's, but for many years, looked older than my chronological age. Must have been the going bald starting in my mid-20's that did it. Have owned and carried handguns since I was 21, the minimum age for a Washington carry permit.

It makes perfect sense to me that as the Baby Boom ages the average age of gun owners goes up.

You don't figure those politicians are cooking the books, do you?

I'm 54. My father is 83 and my uncle is 73. My cousin is 48 and she owns guns. Hey, maybe the fact that people are living longer is also raising the average.

At first I was a little surprised that the 20-30 age group was so high. Then I realized thats the logical high group...old enough to buy guns and young enough to be into the computers. I'm 55 now...the only reason I have one of these things is my kids FORCED it on me  . Coming here and playing with E-mail is all I use it for. I'll have to say...I hope the young men and women stay interested in firearms and bring in their friends...use those constitutional rights! See 'ya at the range. I'll bring my guns.
Mark.
