Any thoughts on how soon retail prices will actually reflect the realities of an expired ban on things like hi-capacity magazines, flash suppressors, collapsible stocks, et cetera, et cetera? I.e., how soon it might be before one can, say, buy a 17rd mag for ~$30 instead of ~$90, and so on and so forth? I also wonder if there are any online e-tailers who are taking orders ahead of time. I checked one place I knew of, FourFourMag.com, but it was business as usual on their site. I guess I am just wishing there was more pomp and circumstance surrounding this glorious event, but perhaps it's better that it just occurs in a quietly glorious manner. Either way, my shopping list is done and I am curious to see exactly how manufacturers and retailers will respond. Parts of me believe there won't be an immediate fall in post-ban prices because it's in retailers' collective interest to make as much money as possible...

As for AR15 type parts:
I think demand will be high at first, but then level off in a few months. Part of it will be from the purchases that were put off until September. Part from the post ban owners modifying their guns.
Prices will start out high and level off also, following demand. I would expect a collapsible stock to eventually go for about the same price as it does now.
Colt parts will stay high, though.

As for magazines:
Demand is going to be high; lots of hi-cap frames are out there. It's mainly going to depend on supply. This is where my crystal ball turns cloudy.

Prices will start out high and level off,,,,

I agree. I'm not planning to rush to buy stuff, just because I know that there will be a bunch of sellers taking advantage of much higher demand. I WILL be stocking up, esp. on magazines, but not right away.

Something that I DO see happening with mags is that the older used stuff (what is now called "pre-ban") will drop in price substantially as more new stuff is made. Who wants old, probably somewhat rusted, stuff when you can get new (unless the price justifies it)? I can see buying a bunch of pre-AWB mags for a bargain price if and when they become reasonably priced (like, for instance, $5-$8 for 30-round AR-15 mags in good to excellent shape).

I'll also resume my old habit of buying accessories for guns I don't yet have. What I plan on doing when it is reasonable (and possible) is getting normal cap mags for the new 6.5 Grendel round http://www.65grendel.com/ . They aren't yet available, but I'm sure that as production of the Grendel uppers increases, the demand will be there. I'll have a nice supply of 25-rounders by the time I get my upper (at something like $900 - ouch!) somewhere down the line.

From what i've been seeing locally, magazine prices have come down SUBSTANTIALLY.:D Better to sell them now, then sell none for 2 months.
I still see some online and gun list style advertisers who have maybe not got the message yet, and probably are not selling very many.;)

after AWBE (expires, get it?), sometime this fall, I'm thinking i want a AR15 carbine, collapsible stock, flash hider, bayonet w/ lug, not because I really want one, but because they said I couldn't have one for 10 years.

oh,
and lots and lots and lots of magazines for about everything I own. Not getting burned on that one again.

Mag prices?

All I know is I bought 48 20rnd HK G3 alloy mags for under $2 a pop maybe a month ago.

Can't wait to see what they go for after the ban. :D

Glock will be shipping normal mags with all guns after Spetember 13, as will Para and Beretta...dont know about CZ or Browning.

Glock distributors will be able to purchase normal mags for glocks presetnly in inventory at a reduced price

I think Im gonna do a Glock group buy...

Brownells is selling AR15 30rd magazine bodies for $12 each (lower with FFL discount) alongside follower-spring-floorplate rebuild kits for $~3 each. So after the ban sunsets, you can at least get assembly-required Ar15 mags for $15 each. They mentioned 20 rounders in their email and were briefly listed on the website but I cant find them on the website now.

BozemanMT:
All my ARs at the moment are post-ban 20"ers with A2 stocks. I'm in the same boat as you: a shorty with all the good features will be a welcome addition to my collection.

Definitely! I'm going to be in the market for a G19 later this year.:D

Check out Fourfourmag again. They are taking orders to be shipped on Sept 14th.

Now those are prices I like more but...

Boo hoo, why are the G17/34 preowned mags only $12 and the G22 preowned are $18? :(

I guess I could get the 9mm conversion barrel for the G22 finally and the G17 mags for it.

OH YES!!!

Mortgage your houses, sell your wives to a Saudi-Arabian brothel and the internal organs of your children to the highest bidder.

And from the profit you'll make, you can buy ALL the goodies like AR-rifles with long and short barrels, AK-47, FAL's, TONS of flashhiders and collapsing stocks, hundreds of standard-capacity magazines and truckloads of ammo. :what:

HURRY UP AND B U Y !!! ;) ;) ;)

IMHO the AWB will hopefully end (Bush wants to be reelected) However I think, unfortunetly and hope I am wrong, that Kerry will be elected in which case the "New and Improved" AWB will be soon passed.

The question is how soon?

The above is just my personal opinoin as as always I could be wrong.

How come hicaps right now for guns like Glocks are so expensive whereas you can get a 30rd mag for say a hi-power for under $20?

The Hi Power has been around since 1935 or so. Glocks came on the scene 50 years later. There are more browning compatable mags around in the first place.

Also, you're comparing a USA brand magazine to a glock factory magazine. Apples != oranges.

Simple supply and demand economics.

Once the AWB expires I plan on buying a ton of magazines for my Glock 19 and perhaps an AR-15 (with all the goodies) for precisely the reason BozemanMT stated.

Buy as many evil guns and mags as possible. You will never get another chance like this. The future looks grim. Hillary in 2008.

I just looked on Gunbroker and noticed a PILE of preban mags for sale on their right now. The problem is that they're mostly still at ridiculous prices. AND a few clueless people are still bidding $70 for used Glock mags. They should use their money to buy a clue. The money hungry hoarders that are trying to dump their stash now at ridiculous prices will have to live and learn.

Thanks for the link tulsamal. That link gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. :D

Shouldn't we be concentrating on MAKING SURE the ban ends before we start making plans?

Are you familiar with the inner workings of the original ban and how new legislation is made? Congress is at recess, there are only 4 legislative days left before the sunset. It would take practically an act of god to pass a new bill in that time, even if it had the support it needed.

Yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous. That site I posted above is pre-selling the high capacity mags for $22. That's almost $4.00 better per magazine than TopGlock.
