Tonite my cats alerted my dog who let me know something was up. I was on the backporch smoking and watching 3 cats stalk and eyeball something???? My dog suddenly gets up and slowly walks off the porch to check things out. He finds something, (I couldn't see it) and starts jumping back and circleing and barking. Confused because this went from probably a bug to something? I get up and check it out, about 12 feet off my porch coiled up is good sized cottonmouth
I call the dog off and yell for my wife to come hold the dog, I go fetch my security six which is loaded with 2 38 snake shots and 4 sjhp. snake shot is first then the hollowpoints.
Fire 1 round at the head and it's a hit but about 4 inches down from the head. I normally hit what I aim at and i'm about 5 feet from the snake, this must be the donut pattern some describe from snakeshot. Fired a second shot and it's the tighest pattern i've ever seen. Now I have 1 dead snake and i'm really confused.
I dispose of the dead writhing snake.
Go in the house and reload, pop out both shot shells to replace and their unfired. HUH? Check the other 4 and 2 of my defense rounds had been fired. I guess the bullet came apart as it hit the ground and clipped the snake. The second shot didn't which was the TIGHT pattern I saw.
The gun is now empty so I cock and uncock it. I realized my security-six cylinder rotates backward from my blackhawk and every other revolver i've ever owned. Thankfully this was the first time it's seen snake duty, i've been loading it backwards all this time
