I'm talking a gun in the .40S&W cartridge used for carry , home-defense , just anything. Reliability and accuracy too . I have had them both and know how they are. I'm just seeing what other's opinions and experiences are.

Not a huge fan of the 40 S&W, although I do have an old Glock 23 I use as a "woods/hunting sidearm". I would go with the G 22 just because I am partial to Glocks.

I think any preference is more to do with whether ones like DA/SA or striker fired better.

Im a big fan of the PX4 even though I sold mine years ago. I go through handguns a lot. But the Glock is going to have much more aftermarket and parts/holster/etc are going to be much easier to find.

Both are great choices. I didn’t vote as I feel it depends if you want da/sa or striker fired. If I could I would vote get both.

I have both but prefer the Px4 - note I don’t like the safety but that can be fixed(I learned on here)
It was way easier getting a holster for the glock though

I'm not a .40 fan, but I lean toward the Beretta because in .40, I prefer a pistol designed around the cartridge rather than one adapted from a 9mm platform to .40.
The Px4 was designed around .40? I know the Glock was 9mm first and .40 got dropped in it, but I'd figure the Beretta was focused on 9mm.

The PX4, HK USP/P30/VP, S&W M&P, SIG P229, and most of the newer introductions were designed around the .40 S&W. The Glock was not. The 3-pin, the Gen 4 redesign, and the heavier slide of the Gen 5 .40 S&W Glocks were all efforts to improve the functionality of the Glock in .40 S&W. Glock wasn't the only one though, as the Beretta 90 Series tried the angled dust cover, the Brigadier slide, and the buffer in the 90-Two/92A1/96A1 to extend the life span of the 90 Series guns in .40 S&W.

Some background.

I've had them both. My PX4 had a heavy DAO trigger, so I preferred the Glock.

If the PX4 had a lighter trigger, it would have been fine. I let a friend have it cheap and she carries it often.

It's nice that the G22 is so easy to switch over to 9mm and back.

Trigger weight can be changed with a $12 spring replacement. https://langdontactical.com/px4-chrome-silicon-hammer-spring/

Mine was a LE trade-in that had a stiff DAO trigger with a long travel. My understanding is that most PX4's are DA/SA, so their trigger is just different. I would probably still have it if it had been DA/SA.

The young lady in question finished college with a degree in Equestrian Studies and is working as a ranch hand until a better job comes up. She's the first one there in the morning when it's still dark, and open carries the Beretta in a shoulder holster. She's gotten very good with it.

The PX4 has three variants available the Type "D" which is apparently what you had in Double Action Only, the Type "C" which is a "constant action" making it similar in function to most striker fired triggers, and the Type "F" that is Double Action/Single Action, this is the most common model.

I chose the PX4 (in 9mm, though) really only because I prefer hammer fired guns. I do think the PX4 probably has a slight edge in long term durability over the Glock because it was designed around the .40 S&W round, but I think that advantage is small, and an advantage most users will never see.

The Glock line-up has a lot going for it, and I think there would have to be some specific feature or features on the PX4 that would make you choose it over the Glock. It's one of those things that you'd probably already know, and that if it has to be explained to you, it's probably not really what you're looking for.

The factor that first caught my eye concerning the PX4 was the rotating barrel lockup. I've been a sucker for oddball systems since the roller-delayed H&K P9S

Gen 4 .40 is pretty good, but I would agree the best Glock .40 is in 10mm.

One thing in favor of the G22… with all the police surplus guns out there, they can be found pretty cheap. I bought one a while back, a G22 gen4…for $279. It looked about 99% new, and has working Glock night sights.
It’s my only .40. While I like the 9 just fine, have for a long time, I find I like shooting the G22 and 180gn HST.
That combination has morphed into my home defense pistol.
Holsters? A quick search on eBay, and I had an excellent Safariland belt holster for $25, lol.

Thanks guys/gals. I ended up going with a PX4 Storm. All of it's parts are extremely easy to take out and change if needed. I have the PX4 in 9mm and I have put on the "stealth" safety levers and also made it a "decock-only". Also put in the Langdon 12lb lighter hammer spring and the Langdon trigger bar which makes the trigger reset as short if not shorter than a Canik or 1911. I'll probably do all this with this PX4 in .40. I got this one for $419 used in great shape. I'll try and post a pictures below.
