Best Ballistic App for iPhone

Now that Strelok has went way, what are you using and recommending for rifle shooters shooting out to 600 yards?

I still have screen shots and dope cards from when I had Strelok, but I need to update them, plus, I want to start experimenting with a wind meter. Ideally, something that I can put in my wind data, and get a table of MOA adjustments that is easily read by aging eyes.

I'm not averse to dropping some coin for a solid, reliable app, but it has to work totally offline.

iSnipe is worth a look, but I have not seen an update in a long time, but it works.

I'm playing with BallisticAE on my phone, trying to input data from my new wind meter. It's not working. It just keeps saying "Unable to calculate. Check your settings or reduce your maximum distance." It will work, if I turn off atmospheric data and let it default to a standard atmospheric day. (sea level, 59˚F, 29.92" barometric.)

Guess I'll try 4DOF next. I didn't like the finger slider graphic to set windspeed and target distance anyway. (It won't let me just manually type that info in.)

'JBM calculations' not to your liking? Does what I need it to do

It’s web-based. I can’t rely upon a tool which is web-based, and won’t put myself in a position to be vulnerable to service unavailability, because I know I frequently will be shooting without service.

Tried 4DoF and was thoroughly unimpressed. 4DoF has sliders and graphics for everything. It won't let me input data from my wind meter; it insists on using blue tooth to pair. (My meter doesn't have BT.) It seems like my only option is to use Hornady bullets from their list. The BC calculator won't allow me to input my bullet data (drag profile, diameter or BC). So, this is pretty much completely useless. Worse than Ballistics AE, which was also not very helpful.

I don't understand why these apps have to be so complex. I just want to type data into fields and hit enter and go. I've been using Shooter's Calculator, which is just type your data in and hit enter, but it's web based, and, like Varminator mentioned above, I need that portability of a stand alone iPhone app that works without cell or wifi service. I just don't want all the other barriers to use that seem to come with the apps.

Are you on Android? None of those issues on iOS for any of our devices (have had on iPhones 6-12, and two iPads).

All of the inputs are offered as sliders, but tapping on the numbers allows users to type the numbers as input instead.

Wind direction and speed are the only inputs which are only allowed as slide/drag. On the main solution page you slide the speed bar left and right to set the speed, no paired meter required.

Something is wonky if you’re not able to input bullet data instead of using their provided bullets. Above the G1/G7/Ammo selectors, it says “Don’t see your bullet listed?” with a hyperlinked text “Enter BC Value” directly beneath. This opens a prompt box to allow input of bullet weight, diameter, name, BC, and select reference bullet profile G1 or G7.

Sounds like you have some version compatibility issues.

iPhone 11Pro. iOS 16.5

Sort of. There was an extra step to get there, but I found it. I still can't enter in altitude, temp, humidity, or pressure; it still wants to "Pair Meter" with BT for that. But it will give me an MOA adjustment for windage and elevation.

I did find the table of data I wanted.

After clicking the “Edit Variables” button, there should be a slider at the top which says “Rifle/Shot”. Slide that to “shot” and you’ll get the environmental input page. Either side each or click on the numbers to be able to type them in directly.

It won't do it. I saw that screen and that option at the very very beginning of using the app, but it's gone now. I started by using the stuff on the rifle side of that slider. I was able to put it bullet data, range, and wind speed; form there I was able to get MOA adjustments. I saved that as a "new favorite" rifle. Now the screen you showed above, is completely gone. There is no way to access it. I backed all the way out to the home screen to start over, and then I lost the MOA adjustments. Now it just shows me 0MOA for both windage and elevation, no matter what yardage or wind speed/direction I tell it.

I quit the app entirely and restarted it, but now, all I can get to is either "Favorites" or "General Calculator." Favorites retains my bullet data with no MOA adjustments. I deleted the app entirely and then reinstalled it, trying to start over from scratch. It won't let me. When I restart the app, the screen you show above is gone. My "favorite" rifle is also gone. However, when I click on "New Favorite" all of my previous bullet data (MV, dia, barrel twist, etc) is all still there, but there is absolutely now way possible to access "shot" to put in atmospheric data, which has now become totally moot anyway, because the app will no longer function to even give me basic windage and elevation adjustments.

Mine slowed down to a drag yesterday evening, so I got frustrated with it and closed it out. IPhone 12.

If you’re using the “Favorites” profiles instead of the BC calc side, then the display looks different - instead of the slider I pictured above, it looks like this, and instead of entering environmentals in the “shot” slider tab, there’s a clickable link at the top of the landing page that says “Edit Environment”.

Gotta just be a glitch. I’m running on iOS 16.5.1, just downloaded the update this morning, was on 16.5 yesterday.

Sometimes the loading page does take WAY too long, mine has done that on different devices off and on for years. Maybe takes 20sec to launch sometimes? Just hangs on the Hornady page with the landscape background, until it finally launches. That HAS been one reason I haven’t used it as my primary match solution.

But admittedly, StrelokPro has been renaming my rifle profiles a lot lately - it mixes and matches profile names onto the wrong profiles, so I noticed my 300wm profile was renamed as my 6 Dasher, so when I clicked to open my 6 Dasher profile, if I had not noticed the 212grn bullet listed, I might have shot a match with the wrong profile… which isn’t terribly convenient behavior, since I have several 6mm rifles which all have 105 Hybrid loads, so if I just happen to miss the velocity difference, that might bite me in the butt someday soon… and now, Igor can’t issue glitch fixes and updates… updating iOS might not crash the app for me, but it might simply collapse on its own bugs, or it might get a little too untrustworthy with mixing and matching names before it actually crash out of iOS compatibility.
