Best of the 9mm micros

A lot of great advice here! What helped me decide when I was trying to decide on one among several was how they shot for me. I had a 365, a 938 , a CZ P07 and a few others. All were highly reliable (most important). Some clearly had more capacity than others, e.g. the 365 vs 938…also important especially if you don’t carry a spare mag.
I ran several 4-5 drills (5 shots into a 5” circle in 5 seconds at 5 yards distance) and several slow fire drills at 20 yards with each pistol using carry ammo. For me the 365 was a pretty clear winner over the others. And I was really hoping either the 938 or P-07 would ‘win’ but the targets told a different story. bottom line…TRY OUT at least 3 to find the reliable gun that shoots best for YOU. Good luck,
KCAce

There is no best, we know that, just the one you can shoot accurately, carry and can afford comfortably. Hard to find a "bad" one among the current offerings.

I think that this says it best. When it comes to concealed carry pistol designs, these ARE the good old days! There have never been so many viable options. As much as any other consideration, which pistol fits your particular hand the best may be the deciding factor.

The magazine system used on the P365 could have easily be adapted to the P290RS, but the necessity of a "striker action" just gets a professional grade eye-roll from me.

Agree on both points.

Unfortunately, those of us who just don’t care for striker fired pistols are in the minority. Manufacturers aren’t going to put out any new SA/DA or DAO compact guns until there’s a demand (which they will create when it proves profitable).

P365 gets lost in my hand, it's too small.

It's too small for my hand as well. That's why I installed the taller XL grip module. But the shorter P365 grip module is better for pocket carry. So I'm going to make an effort to practice with the shorter P365 grip module for those times when pocket carry is my best option.

You may want to consider the Max 9 instead of the EC9. Better sights (tritium front sight), higher capacity (10 and 12 round magazines included) and nearly the same size. Traded my EC9 for the Max 9. Haven't been to the range yet but expect it will shoot as well as my EC9 did.

Can I mention the new Canik MC9? Seems like it's getting lots of positive reviews, as being exceptional.

I wish the Canik MC9 would have been released sooner, I probably would have went with the MC9 instead of the Canik Elite SC. Though I have zero complaints about the Elite SC.

I have owned and shot Ruger EC9s, Shield, Glock 48, Glock 19. Have shot a Glock 43X. I am impressed with handling the SA Hellcat Pro and am waiting on my dealer to get one in the Firstline discount program. Reviewers seems to like it. If the OP is set on a micro, my favorite on the list that I have experience with is the EC9s.

I did a review of many, many videos comparing and ranking the micro 9's and the P-365 was the clear consensus winner.
I don’t know about that. Many of the big time reviewers prefer other pistols (Honest Outlaw etc.). I could see volume of reviews, as 365 was basically first and is the most popular. Qualitative reviews from people that know guns, I don’t think that’s accurate. Could be close though, it is a great choice.

I suppose it depends on how many and whom you listened to.

Just wanted to get a general consensus on the best of these.

I've tried:
P365 with safety
Ruger ec9
Sig p938
Hellcat (x2)

I've shot a sw shield.

I don't have any of those as it stands. I'd probably rank them hellcat, ec9, 938, 365, shield.

But now there are a ton of new models...I can't keep up..

Csx looked interesting...i handled and liked

365 with the cool internal sites..

Mako...mossberg ..taurus...shield plus..

So. Many. Choices!

I am missing a smaller 9mm that my g19...where would you start looking?

For me the answer is the P365.

I like mine quite a lot. I decided I wanted a 2nd similar pistol (10+ rounds, micro-9/micro compact) for when I'm bringing my P365 to the range so I can take it on multiple trips without cleaning it and still having a similar sized gun to carry. I once again looked at several of the top contenders in the category (I looked primarily at the G43x, S&W Shield Plus, and another P365, but also looked a little more casually at the Hellcat and the Taurus). I really thought I'd go with the Shield Plus, or maybe the 43x, but other than just being something different, when I really thought about it, neither did anything better than the P365 and I bought a 2nd P365.

I shoot it very well. It is accurate, and recoil isn't bad (it is a little snappy with +P, but I'm happy with standard defensive JHP), mine has been 100% reliable, and it is so easy to carry. With a 10 round mag it conceals as well as my single stack SIG P290, and with the extended mag I get all my fingers on the grip and 12+1 rounds.

Still scratching my head why it didn't sell well.

Some reasons have already been mentioned. There is a stronger market for striker fired pistols than one with a heavy DAO trigger. Double stack, 10 round or higher capacity is popular. It is the size of the Kahr PM9, yet a bit heavy for capacity.

One big one that wasn't mentioned was the SIG tendency to use its customers as beta testers. I bought my P290RS a few years after it came out. I distinctly remember the internet forum discussions about reliability issues when they first came out and SIG creating the RS version (restrike) to address them, and weighing that in my decision to buy. Add to that the long and heavy (but very smooth) DAO trigger and many people didn't even consider the P290. I'm a revolver guy as well as into autos, so I actually like the trigger a lot as it seems to have been designed to mimic a good DA revolver trigger. Owning a P290RS from shortly after the fix, I can attest to the redesigned version of the gun being quite reliable (mine has been 100%).

I think it is a great design for the guns of its time period. It is up there with the metal framed Kahrs (which are much better guns than the polymer versions IMO). I still have mine and carried it before I could get my MD permit. Carrying one or two days a month on a non-resident permit when out of state wasn't enough to justify spending the money on a P365 or similar for me, so I kept my single stack, 6 round mag P290 (and often carried with the 8 round extended mag). Now that MD is effectively shall-issue post-Bruen my cost/benefit analysis changed and I went with the 10/12 round +1 P365. For those who are still happy with a single stack gun, there is nothing wrong with the P290RS. Right now I plan to sell mine, but I haven't yet actually brought myself to do it as I like it quite a lot.

P365, no manual safety. There is good reason for its popularity. Shoots like a much larger gun, not snappy, good trigger and sights, very durable finish.
I have the Ruger LC9s as well. It is just OK. Trigger is good except for the ridiculous long reset. It is quite snappy to shoot with a vert high bore axis. The finish is poor and corrodes very easily when carried daily. It is thin but not particularly small.

I own a Micro 9, P365XL, P30SK and a Shield Plus. All great guns but...I acquired a CSX last year that I have found to be the holy grail pistol for me. It checks all the boxes in what I want in a micro pistol.

Just saw this. That's how I would describe how I feel about the CSX. It's reputation was dinged pretty badly by YouTubers who got early defective models. It's an incredibly flat shooting micro offering 12+1 in a pocket carry size. I added a big dot to mine.
