BEST way to keep rust away from barrel?

As others have said, do not store a firearm in an enclosed case. I learned the hard way when I stored a brand new airgun that had never been used in an enclosed rifle case. The bluing on the rifle was beautiful. I had an identical riflethat I used and just kept in an open area. When I opened the rifle case to inspect the rifle that I stored, I was dismayed to find surface rust on the barrel. The other rifle that I played around with was not oiled and showed no signs of rust.

As far as rust coating is concerned, I use Inox which the manufacture says can be used for cleaning and lubricating firearms (not Eezox which is another product). It is lanolin based and is food grade (i.e. edible) so it's not caustic or toxic. Deep sea fishermen spray their rod and tackle with the stuff to prevent oxidation caused by seawater and sea salt. It's pretty remarkable.

Damn Martin dont scare me LOL :banghead:

I HEARD FP10 works great any fans on here of it?

Also this rifle is being stored in the open on a rifle rack with a thin coat of oil along the barrel every so often.

Has anyone used FP 10?

If I plan on storing a rifle for an extended length of time, it gets a coat of "Fluid Film" inside and out.
Great stuff!!
At the start of the hunting season, whatever rifles I plan to use get pulled out of the stocks and coated with the stuff as well. Never had a problem with rust from storage or even hunting in horrible weather and the rifle literally dripping with rain, snow, etc.

Rig grease for longterm storage or Boeshield T-9 for once a year field use sorts. Gunsocks also are preferable to sealed cases--especially the ones with vapor corrosion inhibitor (a bit harder to find and more expensive) and silicon. Get a dehumidifier for where you keep them. Currently experimenting with Frog Lube on a few old warhorses.
