Bought an AR Lower Today. What to Do With It?!

I’m being talked into a Sig Romeo5.
I’ve sold a lot of those over the years. They’re a good sight for the money. Simple, good design, good battery life. If it’s in your budget, it’s a good optic for the money. I consider most of the red dots that are cheaper than the Romeo to be fine for range use, but not for any situation where you might use it to protect yourself or someone else. But I wouldn’t hesitate to put a Romeo 5 on a home defense rifle. That said, I’d put an Aimpoint on a SHTF rifle.

I have to agree that the Sig Romeo5 is a good choice. I have several of the Bushnell TRS-25 and Primary Arms red dots and no issues with them either. All three will serve just fine for range and home defense use. I would not carry any of them into combat though.

Thanks, y’all. I think HD is what I want this gun to do. So I’ll plan ahead for that and buy a Romeo 5.

I saw that, but wasn’t familiar with the version and thought it best to stick to what my person recommended. I ended up finding a romeo 5 for $106 shipped.

I’ll be looking for one of those forward brakes soon too.

A PCC will be my next build. No doubt about it.
Then you may want to consider 9mm upper for smaller muzzle flash size and quieter bang.

9mm or pistol caliber carbines produce much smaller muzzle flash indoors compared to rifle cartridges but consider these muzzle breaks/flash hiders.

The kit came today. It legit looks exactly like the picture. Built upper and everything. Super nice packaging. All i have to do is build the lower and mate the two halves, apparently. Easy peasy!

This was too easy. I used a few punches and a small hammer to put the lower together. With frequent checking of my instructions and lots of unwanted interruptions, the assembly only took a couple of hours. Still need to tighten the castle nut, but it’s done otherwise.

my red dot comes today, and i do have a couple of magazines here as well. Haven’t bought a brake yet, but there’s no rush.

Are you planning on using a read sight in addition to the red dot?

I prefer to have iron sights and cowitnesss with any red dot on my AR's. Here is a UTG rear sight. I have actually had very good luck with them on my rifles and the one pistol setup. There are also other options too.

There really isn’t any “building” to an AR ... compared to building an AK with bubba tools ... an AR is more like LEGOs

... the most difficult part is deciding which configuration to go with!

i’m glad you asked that. Yes, i want to add a rear sight, but haven’t made a selection yet. I’ve been looking at them, though, and want something similar to the one in your link as opposed to a flip up/backup sort of arrangement.

yessir you are right about that. I built my AK with a homebuilt receiver brake, allthread and washers and nuts for marrying the barrel and trunnion, some homemade pipe adapters to populate the barrel w that same tool, and a BFH. This was closer to routine cleaning and maintenance. My auto 5 shotgun is more complicated than this.

If you plan to use Red Dot in conjunction with rear sight, flip up rear sight that could be folded down will give you more clear field of view on the red dot.

I have tried different back up iron sights (BUIS) and now very happy with MagPul BUIS which co-witness great with red dot sights on high rise mounts.

And don't let the price fool you. While I am happy with $20 Field Sport micro dot red/green sight, this $29 OTW endures HARD water bottle hit test and maintains zero - https://www.amazon.com/OTW-Sight-1x...HDDWDTVRZ9T&psc=1&refRID=EVKAHGQW1HDDWDTVRZ9T

At 6:35 minute, 3 shot zero and maintains zero after repeated pounding with water bottle, even after hard tap on the barrel.
