I found this poster on the Brady website:

I didn't like the outright inaccuracy and insult of it, so I fixed it.

Whaddya think?

The numbers don't really matter. Its the the fact that they say guns did the crime and not humans is the BS. Then there's the dig at America for "allowing" all those murders to happen because some of the demographic want to abuse their rights. Typical liberal stuff. Make fun of the country that gives you the right to make fun of it.

37 gun killings in Sweden in 2004 sounds reasonable, we usually have around 110 - 120 murders in sweden each year. We do also have an increasing problem with gang violence using illegally imported firearms, mainly old Sovietmade arms imported from the balkans.
Be aware though, that the numbers on the poster is useless, what is useful is the "per capita" numbers. 37 gunkillings in sweden would mean roughly 1480 gun killings in a country the size of the US.
This still means that there are roughly 8 times more gun murders per capita in the US than there are in Sweden, but then, Sweden is quite a bit smaller than the States, we have only one city of more than 1 million citizens (stockholm with connected towns is roughly 2 million citizens), the number two city is 600 000, number three 250 000 and number 4 is less than 200 000. Our entire population is less than the New york metropolitan area.
The big numbers of gun killings in the US is in the bad parts of the huge cities, types of neighborhoods that we simply dont have in sweden (yet). The difference in numbers of gun deaths between sweden and the USA is not a function of gunlaws, it is a function of radically different social systems and radically different cultures, not least of which is different welfare systems. In sweden you cant get rich through just ordinary work, due to thigh taxes, but on the other hand, our welfare systems make sure that even the unemployed, the sick and the unemployable have an acceptable material standard of living, hell, many on welfare have better clothing and more hightech toys than i have. This means that we as of yet have no killings over Nike Airs.
Our system have many failings, but fueling a thug culture is not one of them.
Our tough gunlaws is not responsible for our low gunkilling rates, our low total rate of murders is responsible for our low gunmurder rates.

Sprithitler made the point I was going to make. It's all based on population. That's what gives the poster the "shock" factor.

Its almost amazing that a resident of Sweeden has a better grasp on crime in the US than a very large number of US citizens.

Better yet:

In 2004, police failed to prevent:

5 murders in New Zealand
37 in Sweden
56 in Australia
73 in England and Wales
184 in Canada
11,344 in the United States

But private gun owners prevented over
2,000,000 assaults in the United States

God Bless America!

You know? I never realized what a massive forehead Jim Brady had until I went to the website and saw his picture.

I'd even go so far as to say it's more than a forehead, it's a fivehead.

Blackbeard,
Your idea takes away from the focus of guns themselves and puts it on police and private owners. The Brady Bunch aren't against police, just guns (supposedly). I'm not trying to outdo the Bradys, just set the record straight. I want to tweak this before I send it to them. :)

By the way, those numbers are murders, accidents, suicides AND LAWFUL HOMICIDES all put together -- so they are misleading int he extreme.

Also, shouldn't England be completely free from violence, now that they have banned all those icky, nasty handguns? What is that you say? Gun control doesn't work? Oh my, who would've thought...

To be fair the English government is trying its best.

it just needs "a little" more power to do it.

then "a little" more, then "a little" more....

oh and if they could just get rid of those nasty civil liberties it would be so much easier, of course...They know whats best for you ;)

We need to imprison these terrible guns. Let them rot in jail for life, there's no hope in educating them and reintroducing them to society

(Super cool paint job!!!!!!!)

Is that duracoat?
It's probably photoshop, I think a brady photographer would die out of fear if he had to touch a real gun, let alone duracoat one.
I definitely like it though. I may have to duracoat one up like that and call it my "brady special"

By the way, those numbers are murders, accidents, suicides AND LAWFUL HOMICIDES all put together -- so they are misleading int he extreme.
+100. Wouldn't the bradys be horrified to know that cars murdered 42,636 people that same year (down from the 2003 numbers). The humanity!

Anyone else notice that the american flag is upside down on that gun?

Stars should be upper left, not lower right...

Hidden message there? Don't know...

I don't think it's hidden at all. These people do not like the USA. They want a powerful centralized government so they can tell us all what to do.

Our flag and that pesky Constitution keep getting in their way.
