I ordered a Browning T-Bolt in 17 HMR with AA maple stock last year, and I thought I’d post a report card since Browning is offering the same $75 rebate through Dec 1st this year (online price after rebate is as low as $499).

The summary is that I think the T-Bolt is the best hunting rimfire that there is, but certainly not the best shooting that there is.

I tried four different ammo types, CCI Green, CCI FMJ, Hornady XTP, and Hornady NTX. The best accuracy came from the CCI green (16 grain lead free). Group sizes are around 1.5” at 100 yards. It may be capable of better; I only tried four types of ammo and I’m not the best at shooting ultralight rifles.

When it comes to hunting the T-Bolt is about perfect. The action is fast, smooth, and reliable/consistent. The helical magazine holds 10 and has been flawless through hundreds of rounds. The tang safety works well, it points naturally (for me), and it has an excellent single stage trigger (though it is plastic). The maple stock is extremely easy on my eyes.

Overall I’m satisfied with my purchase, but I’m 80% hunter and 20% shooter, if those numbers were reversed I’d probably choose differently.

As a hunter, the only issue I ever had with my T-Bolt was the fact that I seemed to constantly bump the bolt handle into something and knock the gun out of battery, often ejecting live rounds in the process. I think it would be smart of Browning to integrate a safety selector that locks the bolt closed in the safe position.
