Gott In Himmel! Do you all realize how over whelmed a newbie is right now? Now what I suggest is
Price and nostalgia are fine reasons.I confess to having a BuckMark for 2 reasons; price, under $220 after clearance price and rebate, and because as a youngster who got an arm (not shoulder) full of 20ga single shot I was committed to never shooting again until my dad’s friend put a BuckMark in my hands to plink with. I immediately forgot my sore arm and the rest was instant nostalgia.
Still, that Browning is plenty accurate and now well behaved with a few tweaks.
I've never understood the appeal of the Buckmark
The only bad think about a mk111, is people that don't read the manual.People are recommending the pistols they own. I do own several Ruger MKII's, and they are far better than the horrible MKIII's. Given that, buds who have the MKIV Ruger's like them. They are easy to take down and reassemble for cleaning.
And the S&W Victory pistol is a real winner, and I think the reason Ruger got off their duff and designed the MKIV.
If money is no object, how about a nice S&W M41?

I have owned the Buckmark shoot the S&W a good bit, and own a Ruger MkII. You can't go wrong with either I kept the Ruger because I live the Volquartsen upgrades I did to the trigger and hammer.
With that said, I have not taken it out in a while. The Taurus TX22 had proven to be nearly as accurate and the Ruger eats crappy ammo better. I just enjoy shooting it a lot more. I have to leave the cheap Federal bulk at home though.
I didn't plan it this way, but all of my .22's are Ruger:I'm personally partial to Rugers. All of my .22 handguns are Ruger:
Ruger Standard Model
Ruger MkIV 22/45
Ruger Single-Six
Ruger Bearcat
