Are the English really so ignorant? Do they completely accept the drivel of their gun-banning overlords? Even Mr. Khan, licensed to touch firearms, seems to be afraid of a .22 Short. Will we ever be this accepting of gun haters' ideology?

LETHAL: The .22 calibre bullet found in Walthamstow High Street on a market day morning (D6W1001)

LIVE <all caps in original>ammunition has been found lying in the doorway of a busy high street shop.

The .22 calibre short round bullet was found at the entrance of the 99p Stores in Walthamstow High Street on Wednesday morning, November 1.

Haroon Khan, who has a firearms licence and is a member of a local gun club, was alarmed to discover live ammunition in a Walthamstow doorway.

The bullet, of Swiss origin, was still in its brass casing, complete with enough gunpowder for it to fire itself.

Mr Khan said that if it had been struck hard enough or exposed to heat it could have gone off.

"This sort of thing should not be lying around. It was live, primed and active," he said. "But rather me pick it up than a little kid.

"How can you feel safe when you are finding things like this on the street?

"To get hold of one of these is not easy. You have to go through a scrutinised search, you need a licence and you have to belong to a club."

Ammunition of this kind would ordinarily be used in a small handgun or pistol, and both can be owned legally under licence.

But to leave strictly controlled goods out in the street would be enough for a firearms licence to be revoked.

The bullet has been examined at a Metropolitan Police laboratory and details about it kept for future reference.

A police spokesman said: "Recovering firearms and ammunition is a priority for the police. We take the same view of ammunition as we do of a gun.

"If it goes bang, it is still lethal."

Police are treating the unattended ammunition as a crime. Mr Khan alerted them at 10.16am, and they arrived at his shop to pick up the bullet at 11.32am.

I wonder if somebody went on a target-shooting trip to Switzerland, and accidentally came back with a .22 Short in their pocket.

There'll always be an England

Though after reading this story, one has to wonder.

:banghead:

One.

Freaking.

.22.

Round.

My favorite line: "The bullet, of Swiss origin, was still in its brass casing, complete with enough gunpowder for it to fire itself." Fire itself. You know, I've fired thousands and thousands of rounds of .22, and I have thousands and thousands of rounds stored in the house now. I must be lucky, because I've never had one "fire itself".

When it comes to firearms, all I can say is that reporters the world over have a way with words. I dare say even a good number of little old ladies from Land's End to John O'Groats sufficiently clear minded to recall the cowardly Old World will have some choice remarks about this one.

Most of the writers of those articles wouldn't know a cartridge from a suppository. Same applies to the majority of UK medical personnel and even members of the territorial army.

One .22 caliber round found on street in UK, hysteria ensues.

I hear that if those .22 bullets enter your foot, they'll come out in an orphanage.

It's for the children, remember the children.

all I know, is that every british person I meet from now on will be sent pictures of my arsenal. Hopefully there will be much fainting :D :neener:

Thats just funny. I'f I'm out of .22 ammo, I could go to the range where I shoot and scrounge enough off the ground to feed a whole day of shooting. (not that I would, but I could)

With typical efficiency, the British police respond to this heinous crime with blinding speed.

The news media is NOT the place to look for "expertise"....in ANYTHING! They report "things" that take place, and often report them as being "factual". Even if they are presented all of the FACTS, don't think that they won't interject their OWN "slant" into the broadcast!

Several years ago, as a LEO, I was investigating a shooting incident at a residence. It was a clear-cut case of being a "randomly-fired" round that went through an exterior wall of the house, struck a female in the leg, and caused a VERY minor wound to her left leg. I spoke with all of the neighbors, and no one saw the shooter, and most of them didn't even hear the gunshot. The victim was a housewife, in her mid-thirties, not involved in gangs or drugs, and no one in the family had any gang/drug ties.

When my investigation was just about wrapped up, a roving CNN van pulled up. They had heard the radio call, and since they were in the area, they decided to find out what had taken place. Must have been a VERY slow night!

The CNN reporter was nice, but seemed ready to cover "blood and guts"! Since the shooting investigation was sort of a "nothing", other than the minor injury, I consented to giving them a statement. Right off the bat, the reporter asked, "Was this a drive-by shooting?". I told him that it wasn't. "Gang- or drug-related?" Again, I told him that it wasn't. The CNN cameraman kept on rolling as I explained that the shooting had been purely a "random" act, and that the victim had been treated for a superficial gunshot wound that didn't require surgery or even a trip to the emergency room.

The next day, my Uncle Frank, who lived in Indiana, called me at home. "I saw you on the CNN news!", he proudly exclaimed. I hadn't seen myself on that news report, so I asked him what had been said. "Well, they showed you talking, but they didn't have your voice. It was one of the reporters talking about that 'drive-by' shooting", he said. He also told me that the CNN report said that the shooting had "probably" been "gang- or drug-related", since it had taken place in a "high crime" area! All total, it was great to hear from my Uncle Frank, but he seemed almost let-down when I explained the REAL version of what had taken place!

"It must be TRUE, for I saw it on TV!" Uh, sort of like what the news media did with the "Rodney King Beating"! When the Simi Valley (CA) jury acquitted the 4 LAPD officers of MOST of the charges against them, it didn't come as much of surprise to me, for I had seen the ENTIRE, un-edited video-tape of that incident. The masses only saw what the news media WANTED to show....the aggressiveness of the police while trying to subdue a "poor black motorist"! To this day, I blame the "riot" on the news media for its "selective" portrayal that was viewed, re-run, then continued to be re-run almost countless times!
"Poor old Rodney King" was portrayed as an innocent "victim" of police abuse!

Sort of like that CNN report of my investigation that DIDN'T include the FACTS that I spoke during the interview! "Drive-by shootings", and anything "gang- and drug-related", when violence is involved, is what they WANT you to see!

(Is this why the FOX cable news, with their "fair and balanced" reporting, is the #1 news station?)
HAHA! "The SPIN....stops HERE!"

Swiss bullet in England? Obviously Switzerland is vying to be part of the worldwide axis of evil, tired of being labeled as quaint watchmakers.

.22 short? I haven't seen one of those in decades. All I ever see is .22LR which is good because .22LR don't usually explode spontaneously, even if they sit out in the hot sun.

Regards.

This is much like those road-side bombs in Iraq, except you walk by this .22 short round and get swissed. :D

:what: Bloody heck! Could have been a Yank .22 short, then we'd catch all the flak.

Before you send any Brits pictures of your Arsenal, please make sure they're not Tottenham fans like me . . . !

It's great at work. Whenever someone new starts working there everyone is like "Don't piss off [Fosbery], he's got a **** load of guns!" :D

Those fainthearted Brits would crap their knickers if they saw the washing machine after any of my pants went through it.:what: The damn things are like pocket lint. I can't get rid of it, it just appears.

My house has more 9mm ammo lying on the floor than a daycare center has soggy cheerios.
