Bullet Found On London Street (multiple threads merged)

Be sure to look at the picture of that thing. A .22 Short.

If that thing had gone off by itself it could have killed hundreds. Those things are designed to tumble when they go through a body. When they tumble they actually pick up speed and leave an exit wound the size of a bowling ball. On a crowded city street that could be a massacre.

They will go straight through body armor. They can be used to shoot down a passenger jet from five miles away! They don't even need to hit you to kill you, the vacuum the bullet creates as it whizzes past your head can suck the oxygen out of your lungs.

Where did all of the brave British soldiers who stormed the beaches at Normandy, drove Rommel out of NA and served with courage and honor all over the world go?

Maybe they are like us. That generation is passing at a rate of 1000 a day.:(

Most of the writers of those articles wouldn't know a cartridge from a suppository. Same applies to the majority of UK medical personnel and even members of the territorial army.

I'll contribute $20 to send them a case of cartridges labeled "suppositories.":D

The bullet, of Swiss origin, was still in its brass casing, complete with enough gunpowder for it to fire itself.

Mr Khan said that if it had been struck hard enough or exposed to heat it could have gone off.

"This sort of thing should not be lying around. It was live, primed and active," he said. "But rather me pick it up than a little kid.

"How can you feel safe when you are finding things like this on the street?

"To get hold of one of these is not easy. You have to go through a scrutinised search, you need a licence and you have to belong to a club."

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Goodness gracious. I was out at the range today, shooting CAS, and picked up a fistful of .22 LR that had been dropped by some folks shooting in that bay before us. I guess that I should have been more careful, now that I have read about how dangerous the dang things are.

Sorry but I just have to rip this article apart.

Are you that stupid?! Oh wait you're a reporter, you can't let facts get in the way of a good scare story.

Mr Khan said that if it had been struck hard enough or exposed to heat it could have gone off.
Mr Khan is probably now kicking him self in the arse for talking to you at all after seeing how you butchered what I suspect he really said.

Ammunition of this kind would ordinarily be used in a small handgun or pistol, and both can be owned legally under license.
Not so ordinarily it would be used in a howitzer to kill an entire city with one shot.

The bullet has been examined at a Metropolitan Police laboratory and details about it kept for future reference.
Because only the perpetrator of this ghastly crime would know the details of this nefarious device.

"If it goes bang, it is still lethal."
How profound. You've changed my life forever.

Mr Khan alerted them at 10.16am, and they arrived at his shop to pick up the bullet at 11.32am.
How could you wait that long?! Do you know how many people that can be killed by that one bullet in 90 minutes?!

I pray the good people of Britain are not so naive as to believe this drivel.

The police are treating the unattended cartridge as a crime??????

Slap the cuffs on it, it's one of those RENEGADE cartidges out looking for trouble. It needs to be locked up for causing so much havoc!!!

@ Erebus

I pray the good people of Britain are not so naive as to believe this drivel.

Unfortunately they do believe it (the majority, that is).
I posted that story on a largely British programming/computer forum and they can't see the problem with that story. Even after I pointed out all the errors and posted pictures of cartridges (unfired and sectioned fired ones), they still think it is just an issue of 'semantics.'

Such is Britain. But don't worry, it happens in the medical field too. You get all sorts of stories with misrepresentations and lack of research being printed or even aired. Unfortunately only the individuals who have an interest in that subject or whose job is in that field will notice. The general populace just swallows it all.
I am certain that to some degree you have this phenomenon happening all around the world.

If that thing had gone off it would've made Hiroshima and Nagasaki look like a firecracker. Thank christ the cops came by to get it, I just hope they scrambled the bomb squad, SAS, and MI-5.

Surely they can use the serial number from it, and track it back to the criminally neglent idiot that planted this dangerous item to randomly endanger the public. :fire:

I am sure that everyone here KNOWS that I mean the printer, and the reporter, and the news service that misinforms the public this way. :)

Ummm.......I thought handguns were 100% banned in the U.K. This whole story makes me sick, what a bunch of sheep. Sorry for fellow posters who live in the U.K but the ignorance, and gullability in your country astonishes me. I probably lose more .22 rounds a year than you guys are allowed to buy. One of my greatest fears is this country may become like Brittian one day :barf: .

Maybe someone should let the brits in on the dirty little secret that a pound of petrol stores more free energy than does a pound of TNT.

Hmmm, having fired thousands of rounds of .22 caliber ammo, I have never seen one fire itself. Thank goodness for my luck. I better stop while I am still alive.

And this guy has a firearms 'licence' and is a member of a local gun club?! Thank goodness a regular civilian didn't find the round. The British empire could have collapsed.

Hard to believe it took the British police well over an hour to respond,... given the gravity of the situation. Thank goodness they seem more effective at tracking real terrorist plots!

Hmm, if they keep this up, we'll be able to invade England carrying pictures of guns. They'll be so paralyzed they'll never know what hit 'em. Or, fly over London and scatter .22lr all over so that a national emergency is declared and
they lock everything down.

Good thing he didn't step on that .22 short... he'd have blown his leg off!
:neener:

Yeah...Olde England...

If it ever came to another war over there, don't think it would be in our best interests to do anything except maybe shout... Go, Limeys Go:neener:

Herr... when they start begging (as they did during WW2) for small arms, I'll certainly know better than to throw away a perfectly good firearm.

If it came to another major war and the Brits needed our help, I wouldn't turn my back on them. Though they did piss me off with the guns we sent from our private sector, and dumped them in the Irish sea after WW-2.

And the lovely way they jackbooted the Irish with their force of arms. Though I have no sympathy for any terrorist part of that bullshine.

Sure their politics suck on being anti gun and stupid in pandering that line of crapola. But they are a Country afraid of take-over, from any quarter.

Can we say our politics are much better...I don't see many anti gun laws being repealed here...except maybe the semi-auto magazine fiasco that Klinton slam dunked on us. There are still way too many anti gun laws still on the books, put there by both politcal parties.

Go to California, and you'd think you're in England's draconian land. Especially the wizards of Oz in S.F.

I'm near the 3/4 mark of being a hundred, you younger generation don't know what its like to have your backs againts the wall. England is an ally, they were there for us in past wars, and I expect they will be there in future wars.

They use to have a King or Queen running the show, calling the shots, now they have assinine politicians just like we do making the socialist decisions on what's best for us types lower in status.

Will there always be an England? As long as they can keep the people disarmed they are in mortal danger.

Same holds true here.

Jim

How ironic would that be? England survives months of bombings by the Germans during WWII only to be wiped off the planet by a single bullet made by the Swiss, of all people!

The bullet, of Swiss origin, was still in its brass casing, complete with enough gunpowder for it to fire itself.
Wow, I've got to be more studious in my reloading techniques. How long have the Swiss known about this phenomenon? Oh wait.......do I have to have Swiss brass?

Ok nevermind the fact that his article is just plain dumb...but if the guy that worked SOOO hard to get a gun license found it, why would he possibly condem another gun owner by turning it in?? he found it, eliminated the threat (as if there was one) and it was over at that point...what, did he want browny points from the authorities that already believe he is below them?

I'd be the first to make fun of these idiots, but I seem to remember a major US airport being totally evacuated because someone found a .22LR on the floor of the entrance.

I really fear for the Brits.... What's gonna happen to them once the Muslim sleeper cells begin to start trouble? I bet the Muslims have many guns & ammo stockpiled just waiting for the word to move.

I suspect there will be mass conversions to Islam instead of standing their ground.

Can't believe it is the same country that fought in WWII. What ever happened to the "British Empire," the land of King Arthur & his Knights?

It isnt the same country lol...its been destroyed, just like the US! the "super powers" of the world will scare themselves into non-existance, eventually we may be the slaves and islam may start to rule since we dont want to offend anyone...godforbid..

Heck, if they look in my trunk on any given day they'd all drop dead from fear. I cleaned it (my trunk) out a month ago and found 20-30 pounds of various calibers. Yesterday my friend found 2 7.62x39 rounds under the passenger seat. The whole car could have just blown up all by it's self!:D Good thing for friends.
