Bullet found in doorway

An idea of how long it takes for a society to become afraid of its own shadow. Whats it been? 10 years maybe?
Those .22's are deadly if left alone.

Bullet found in doorway
LIVE ammunition has been found lying in the doorway of a busy high street shop.

The .22 calibre short round bullet was found at the entrance of the 99p Stores in Walthamstow High Street on Wednesday morning, November 1.

Haroon Khan, who has a firearms licence and is a member of a local gun club, was alarmed to discover live ammunition in a Walthamstow doorway.

The bullet, of Swiss origin, was still in its brass casing, complete with enough gunpowder for it to fire itself.

Mr Khan said that if it had been struck hard enough or exposed to heat it could have gone off.

"This sort of thing should not be lying around. It was live, primed and active," he said. "But rather me pick it up than a little kid.

"How can you feel safe when you are finding things like this on the street?

"To get hold of one of these is not easy. You have to go through a scrutinised search, you need a licence and you have to belong to a club."

Ammunition of this kind would ordinarily be used in a small handgun or pistol, and both can be owned legally under licence.

But to leave strictly controlled goods out in the street would be enough for a firearms licence to be revoked.

The bullet has been examined at a Metropolitan Police laboratory and details about it kept for future reference.

A police spokesman said: "Recovering firearms and ammunition is a priority for the police. We take the same view of ammunition as we do of a gun.

"If it goes bang, it is still lethal."

Police are treating the unattended ammunition as a crime. Mr Khan alerted them at 10.16am, and they arrived at his shop to pick up the bullet at 11.32am.

Hi All, my fist post here. I'm a regular in the Arfcom UK hometown forum, and have been reading this site for a while now. So for my first post.

I have a sneeking suspicion that the owner of the shop dropped that .22Short, and when someone picked it up he claimed to not know about it. The chances are too remote for it to be coincidence, as there are not taht many FAC holders in the UK.
You can lose your licence for something like that...it's a pretty big no-no. We're a little like Japan in that regard. :uhoh:

Secondly, that article is so full of left wing anti-gun spin it's not even funny. The worst bit of inaccuracy is that small caliber handguns are available to own. They are, but only as a section 7.3, which must be stored at a secure armoury, at a MOD or club range. There are very few sec 7.3 owners (comparatively). Again, you can't own any handgun and store it at home, unless it's a section 7.1 which means it must be a handgun made in an obsolete calibre. Anyway, even of you can store them at home, you cannot use them for anything other than punching paper.

How do they check people comming in from the chunnel for weapons?

Looks like it could keep them real busy if someone simply took a 500 round box of .22s, spilled them all over London one by one then promptly left the country.

Well not anymore,as the anti-gunners banned them. But rifles&special long-barrelled pistols,(which are classed as carbines on a Sect1 ticket:)use them too.Why didn't the journalist just say 'small rifles' instead?.Hence the name .22 Long Rifle

Well I wish someone had let me in on this earlier. There I was, in my cube, as usual, pulling down a book on computer programming when the book next to it came free and, gravity being what it is, hit my desk with a resounding 'bang'. Suddenly everything went quite all around me. For 20' in all directions there were carcasses behind keyboards.

A snow globe also fell later that day making more of a 'smash' sound than a 'bang' sound. Even still, a passing mail clerk was stunned unconscious for a good 30 minutes.

I'm feeling pretty low about it all.

Fire itself. see now this is serious guys. It is for this reason, every night before I go to bed I open the gun safe and have a heart to heart with the ammo. It needs to feel loved and for God's sake you need to keep it calm. Talk to it in low, loving tones. And whatever do NOT taunt the ammunition. 22LRs in particular are known for their short temper. I separate my ammo by caliber for this reason. last thing I need is a domestic in the gun safe. I mean the one of the 22's gets drinking and hooks up with a 12 gauge. Next thing you know the Gold Sabers (those are all 40 S&W) get ticked and we got a veritable 4th of July in there.

These English got the right idea here. You can't be too careful.

you should just run away!

Or lay down and die...whichever is easier. This does not surprise me one bit. Say what was the name of that country we revolted against to found this nation? What was there policy back then about having an armed populace?

Good grief!

Could you have some fun with a 500 round brick of Wallyworld bulk pack or what?

Fill your pockets and ride a bicycle around London dropping LIVE ammo as you go here & there!!

Hard to believe the current residents of Great Britain are the descendants of Harold the Saxon and William the Conqueror.

I am genuinely embarrassed to admit to being of English descent. What a bunch of socialized, mamby-pamby, weak-kneed pussies.

The guns are banned in England, but it doesn't end there. It never ends. There's always a new demon lurking and destroying the country:

In Britain, it's the knives that are the "cause" of the violence now. Don't even think of carrying that knife in your pocket for "self-defense" - you should just run away!

Just checked that link out and ... wow, it would seem they really do have anti-knife groups in England. Are people really that dumb/naive/I'm not sure what to call it. They can't even keep knives out of prisons! If you can't prevent an inmate from getting his hands on a knife, how in God's name to you expect to prevent an entire country from doing so!?

I guess the politicians need something else to blame crime on now that they've banned guns.

Now that I think about it though, what if you're carrying a knife because you need it to cut stuff like rope at work? Are they against that too?

i find ammo laying around the house all the time, i find ammo i the fields all the time, i've found bullets laying around town. who cares

Geeeeeez! Guy didn't even want to pick it up it was so dangerous.

Wonder what they'd think of me? I carried a live 45LC round in my pocket for years and years. :neener:
