Please, if you haven't got a clue don't make stuff up.

I live in California. Sad but true. I want to buy another handgun.
There is a problem! I need to provide "proof of residence" which means one of these with myname on it;

a utility bill or car registration
a rental agreement or deed etc.
a state/county/city i.d. other than Driver's Licence

Problem is that I don't have any of those:eek:

I live with my parents and don't pay rent.
My car is in my dad's name to save on insurance.
I don't pay any bills
I don't work for the government, so I don't habe an I.D. card.

Ok, now that you've all ROTFLYAO:D

What can I do?

Do I need a "rental agreement" that says I rent for free from my dad?
Will the gun store take my last proof item from my last handgun purchase(back before this situation)?
Will an offical college transcript count?

If you're a California FFL with some ideas please let me know.

Please don't just tell me to move out:neener: That's planned for February, but a need a PPK now:evil: well in 10 days or so:D

I don't know if this will work in CA, you will have to call and ask.

When I was establishing residence in ID because I was going to school there, several other documents were also accepted.

*Bank statements that have your home address on them.
*Doctor or insurance bills.
*Paychecks that include your home address.

CA may be stricter, but all ID needed that paperwork for was evidence that you do infact live there. Most people don't have bank statements, doctor's bills, or pay checks sent to a place that they don't live at.

Hope that helps.

**Edit: I guess it doesn't help, sorry :(

None of finks stuff will work

Best way for you to do this is get your dad twrite up something like this

Kungfuhippie is residing at (your address) between the dates (your birthday to some imaginary date or whenyou plan to move). He is paying .05 dollars a month .

sign it and get it notarized and youre set. I dodnt remember if it has to bew notarized.

cal poly pomona, yep, fink, none of that works. I use to have a vehicle registration when my car insurance was only $500/yr. Now I'm saving +/- $1000/yr having car in Dad's name.

Yeah I figured the signed (doesn't need to be notarized last I checked) document will work. Just seeing how dad is okay with me having guns but doesn't want to be involved (however so slightly) in me purchasing them I was trying to avoid the whole situation of, "Dad will you sign this so I can get a handgun like the one James Bond used?" THe answer will be most likly, "I would but your mother would be sooooo P. O. at me it's just not worth it, you understand son, I have to live with her even after she takes that James bond gun and kills you with it for buying it."

When I have kids if something like that arises I'd say,"Only if you let dad shoot it too:D "

Liberalism sucks

P.S. When grandpa passed on some 12 years ago his two Arisaka war bring backs were basically given away (and turned into wall hangers:barf: :barf: ). I sure wish I had them, I'd feel close to grandpa every time I used the guns he took off-a dead Jap:D

CSU ID Card is a State-issued ID.

There you go!:)

I think I've used a CSU ID -- it's a State-issued picture ID, legally valid for various things. Remember: gun shops WANT you to buy from them. They won't make it any harder than they have to by law.

It really isnt a second proof of ID as much as it's a second proof of residence hence the address requirement.

I do believe the proof of residence (utility bill, lease, car reg, etc.) must also be "fresh" - 90 days or less old.

I still think a valid, current CSU ID will work.

It's hard to attend Cal Poly without living somewhere in the state.

As you can see, California especially discourages gun ownership for children. In this case, the easiest thing for you to do—and the one you will thank yourself for the most—is to finish growing up. Until you can do that, spending your money on firearms may not be the wisest decision.

Finish growing up?

finish growing up. Until you can do that, spending your money on firearms may not be the wisest decision.
Wow, you really have me pegged! Are you psychic?

Anyway the requirements are;
My name on the document, my address, and an expiration date (no photo id required). Bank statements, SSN, CSU ID card (no address or exp. date on mine) won't work. That's okay. I was just wondering if their was another option.

I had the exact same problem when getting my XD-45 a few months ago.

Living at home with parents, no bills in my name, Passport and SSC don't have a address, I haven't gotten my Utah CCW yet, so I couldn't use that. Luckly I had a letter from the state of California saying I owed them another few more dollars in taxes, that with a copy of my filed tax return worked. The rental agreement would have worked too, but since my parents were not exactly thrilled with the idea... I didn't want to go that way.

So if you have any kind of recent Tax papers, I would give them a try.

Can't you offer to pay one of your Dad's bill's? Or get your name on the vehicle registration?
Touch situation, good luck

Cmon guys.. this is simple.

Have your parents put your name one of the utility bills. After the company adds your name to the bill, ask them to fax or mail you a copy of the current statement.

Bring statement to gun store and buy pistol.

What's utterly bizarre about the law is this:

Why in God's name would ANYONE lie about where he/she lives in order to buy a handgun IN CALIFORNIA, where they're more expensive, limited to 10 rounds, and some aren't available at all?

This law really makes no sense at all.

yes the law is rediculous

I talked with dad and was told,
I would help but your mother would be very angry with me. It's just not worth it. Understand, son, I have to live with your mother even after she kills you for buying another gun.

Almost word for word. I will wait, having the car registration put in my name will mean I need to have the insurance in my name which means that ppk will cost me $1000 extra over the next year, that's a big enough favor from dad. A california ID is not sufficent for CA.:scrutiny: I've got the passport, and all the bills they won't accept. I mean, a satellite tv bill works but a cell phone bill won't:banghead: So unless I get a jury duty notice, a tax return, or my sample ballot works (it should; it's from my county, has my name, has my address, expires on the 7th:D ) I'll just have to waste my money on a long gun, or wait a few months for my new toy...

Really I understand my dad, not mad at him. I learned long ago that my parents don't keep secrets from each other. Probably why they're still together.

Nope, not an illegal alien here until the reconquista is complete, some time in 2010 when Antonio Villarigoso is elected governor and then imediatly turns the state over to Mexico:barf:

I feel real bad for the homeless of San Bernardino:( who want a handgun for protection. What will they do:( ? And if it's locked up in your shopping cart is that concealed or stored at home:evil: (going ta hell for that one)

Oh, brokendreams, to end the internal debate I'm having by reading gun law websites, did your "rental agreement" need to be notarized? And if not, what stopping anyone from making a forgery? Besides the time you'd spend in jail if caught:neener: I mean a signed piece of paper isn't as valid as a California ID Card...

It's all so that big brother can be sure where you live, so when Jerry Brown gets elected attorney general he can confiscate all those evil handguns! Cause a 9mm round can pass through two police cars and still kill you!:scrutiny:
