He's paid to sustain & prolong the confrontation until the conflict is resolved

At the risk of hijacking my own thread, I don't understand this statement. Is this really the role of law enforcement? Maybe I'm not understanding something because I'm not familiar with Trolley Square.

I carry a Glock 23 or 32

with 2 spare mags, usually 13 rounders but sometimes 15 rounders. I recently bought, and now carry all the time, a Ruger LCP. I carry this whether or not I am carrying the Glock which is almost all the time now. I carry one spare mag for it. I wear carpenter pants much of the time and use the low leg pocket for a small flashlight as well. The two Glock mags ride on my hip in a double mag pouch by Desantis and spare LCP mag just goes in a pocket.

Very interesting. Quite a hero, in my view. Still, I see his actions as holding off a murderous criminal to protect human life until more officers arrived on the scene.

Well, he was off duty and two counties away from home. If he had any specific responsibility other than any other citizen, I'm not aware of it. His Kimber 1911 certainly isn't his duty weapon.

(BTW, he's currently on administrative leave pending allegations of sexual misconduct in an incident pre-dating the Trolley Square shootings.)

Murphy a wuss??

If you are that confident, then you don't need a gun do you? OR at the very most, a single shot derringer with no spare shells.

My .45 works, first time, every time. If the eleven rounds in the piece aren't enough then I shouldn't have left home that day. My mag release is not prone to easily dropping a mag. My mag is in perfect condition and as long as I leave it in the pistol it will stay that way. No, I don't carry a spare or a bug. I do carry an edged weapon for close encounters of the quiet type.

speaking of which. i just carried while going out for pizza. when i came home i found that my gun had no mag inserted nor a round in the chamber. i left my mag and ammo at home on the night stand.

i thought the damn thing felt lighter than usual.

<---- FAIL! :D

NY Reload is carrying another gun.

Well, this is the obviously desirable choice. However, given an HD situation, how many of us would take the time to strap on 2 weapons? However, grabbing a second mag takes no time whatsoever. But, learning to implement that second mag will take some time/practice. This goes double or more if grabbing a flashlight is necessary!!!! This reminds me...I really need to buy a nice weapon mounted light for my HD gun.

However, I'm talking civilian CC and our parameters are a far cry different than law-enforcement.

Here in the greater Seattle area we have had several "Mall Shootings". The Tacoma Mall (30 miles so of Seattle), South Center Mall (just outside Seattle City Limits), and the Northgate Mall, have all had shootings resulting in either death or serious injury. Whether one is a LEO or not, when finding themselves in a situation where some fool thinks the mall is a "free fire zone", defending themselves, their family, and others, may well involve engaging the gunman. In a situation like that, running out of ammo is just plain bad. Based on events of the last several years, here where I live, I feel that the risk of a "Mall Shooter" is three times that of Salt Lake City if not more.

For that reason I a) choose to carry a firearm wherever I go and b) have enough ammo to reliably defend myself and whoever I happen to be with. It's all a matter of choice.

Not at all, I started carrying to truck rifle after Trolley square. If the handgun is what you use to fight your way back to the rifle you never should have put down in the first place, then the plan should include a rifle to fight your way back to.

I also agree that Salt Lake City is at the low end of the risk spectrum for mall shootings. But it happened anyway. It nudged me to think hard about everything I was 'thinking about doing' and actually do it.
