Eleanor?

Somebody mention Eleanor Roosevelt?

Yeah, there was a time . . .

This thread is a bit ridiculous, but I'll play...

has anyone mentioned the fact that the POTUS is Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces?

And further, as head of the Executive Branch, it could be argued that he's the nation's most senior Law Enforcement Officer. After all, the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service, Border Patrol, Diplomatic Security Service, DEA, ATF, etc ultimately report to the President. So I seriously doubt that he'd need a CHL...

I'd see the president open carrying as kinda like some of those military dictator people (Saddam). The only problem I'd have with it would be his elitism that he can have a handgun and CC, but all of us "can't be trusted." Mods, this has to be the oldest zombie to ever come back to life, can it die now?

I would wonder if it was known that the President carried a firearm, would it have to be a US issued sidearm, or if he carried a personally owned, imagine what diplomatic sideshow that could be? Have the guys from all countries wanting an "in" with POTUS gifting various sidearms, all which, by custom, belong to the Fed government when they leave...
Have fun with it - carry the gun of the country you are most pleased with at the time, imagine the pundits..."Well, Wolf, I see the President is carrying a Makarov today, those trade negotiations with Russia must be going well indeed."

If you were the President what would you carry?
First, I'd never be president. It's not on my list of life goals.

But if I was, I'd carry what I want to carry now
(and am moving towards): a SW 340 M&P in .357 mag/.38spl.

I think some of you guys have been watching too many Harrison Ford movies.

I carry a gun for self defense. If I had a massive perimiter with about 500 of the best paid, best equipped, and most motivated trigger pullers on Earth, armed with everything, up to and including Stinger missles and LAWs, surrounding me everywhere I went, why would I need my gun?

Also if the bullets start to fly, my best bet would be to let the nice men in the black coats and ear pieces dog pile on me and shove me into something fast and bullet proof. Having the most important target in the world stand there and plink back with a .45 is pretty silly.

I'm a "belt and suspenders" sort of guy. Call it "Plan B".

Wasn't Clinton over heard saying....."This is my weapon and this is my gun......"

Or was it, "This is my cigar and this is my thumb, whith this I........."

:D

Well Putin Carries

Anybody remember that pic posted on THR of Putin at the range with that high end pistol? As one of the poster's in the thread remarked, they figured he has some familiarity with a handgun

Or is that the wrong president?

Come on guys, as if anyone could tell POTUS that he can't carry a gun. You would be posted to North Terrorstan to guard the ambassadors doghouse in a heartbeat. And if you were president there are enough people out there out to get you that you would be insane not to carry, tho you might want to keep it secret depending on the vote equation. Plus just think how good it would look if you as pres fought off assassins with your own gun, specially an American made gun. Guaranteed reelection. I just wonder which gun?

I'm betting current POTUS is to scared of guns to carry. ;) Probably doesn't even like all those USSS guys with guns, and demands that he be protected by unarmed guards. After all wasn't he quoted as being opposed to concealed carry, and he would NEVER be so hypocritical as to violate his beliefs that way - would he?

I imagine that the TV series 24 has it more correct as to how the White House deals with a direct assault - there is probably a room or two that have been converted to a safe or panic room.

24 also explored an interesting scenario. What happens if SS is infiltrated or an agent swayed by blackmail or threats to his family? I'm not generally that paranoid, and while it is a remote possibility that the vetting process for agents and other persons that the president comes into contact with would miss a bad guy - there is always that remote possibililty.

Personally I would carry a small automatic (.380 and up) or J frame revolver, especially when outside the whitehouse walls.

The idea of the President carrying is the boring part here.

Imagine the aftermath if the President actually shot somebody in a self-defense struggle. Further, imagine if the shoot was not justified. Still further, imagine a Presidential negligent discharge...wow, just wow.

For a federal official to carry a gun I believe there is some sort of qualification that is required. The president in theory has no immunity to obeying these proceedures. I know that there are certain exemptions in the law for specific officials that includes judges and perhaps others. I do not think that the POTUS is empowered to carry concealed. But who is going to arrest and charge him with anything.

Be serious. He's surrounded by Secret Service agents 24/7. No president is going to have a gun under his coat when meeting dignitaries or the public.

Our former governor discussed his having a carry permit and said he planned to carry for self defense after he left office and he no longer had State Troopers watching him all the time.

But now he's moved to NYC to work for Fox so I doubt he packs.

Kenji Fujimoto also writes the dictator even was yelled at by his wife once, when she discovered Kim Jong-Il had a gun, a pistol, in his bedroom.

http://newsbizarre.com/2009/06/kenji-fujimoto-i-was-kim-jong-ils-cook.html

This guy was a cook for Kim Jong-Il and that was part of his book.

If I was president, I would have a Ruger Alaskan in .454 and the oval office would have a IHC M1 Garand, Inland M1 Carbine and my .338 hanging on the wall. But then again I would also use a John Deere to mow the White House lawn, demand a armored 4 door Silverado, and use a Citation II for air force one, forget the 77K an hour 747.

Vote for me 2012!!

"It is extremely unlikely that the Secret Service protective detail would allow a sitting president to carry a weapon."......................................................Do you really think the secret service is going to tell the president what he can and cannot do? They might SUGGEST it, or ADVISE it, or STRONGLY RECOMMEND it, but whether or not he does whatever will probably be his decision, and they will have to work around it.

It's been a long time, but I saw more than one picture of Arafat's belt that time....

At least one was quite clear, showing a snubbie of some kind in an OWB similar to one I had. (But can't find....)

That soured my opinion of the UN.... I, a law abiding citizen, and, at the time, sworn LEO (rent-a-cop) couldn't cross the border into New York State armed without severe risk of jail, but that scum could carry in the UN....

I expect that bHo would never carry, but would insist on as much SS coverage as would fit wherever he was. Same old Rosie O'Donnel "nobody should have a gun but the bodyguards for my kids" attitude.....

Regards,

I'm thinkin' (ugh oh, that's dangerous!) the CIC should carry. And Michelle with heat, any woman with a gun is sexy. Yes, even the really ugly really big ones (to a degree).

CIC able to play with any weapon, he should pick a nice hi-cap 40 o 45 and have quick access to an AR.
