Ladies and Gentlemen,

The four pending gun control bills that are currently working their way through the Colorado legislative process will almost certainly land on Governor Hickenlooper's desk sometime in the next few weeks. Although many people seem to believe that Hickenlooper has already decided to sign these bills, it is pretty obvious that he's still undecided on this issue. He's spoken on both sides of the issue in the months since the Aurora shooting, and he's still going back and forth at the moment (even by his own admission).

Please send a respectful letter to this elected official, and let him know how you feel about these gun control measures.

Here's an excerpt from a recent news article on this issue:

http://kdvr.com/2013/02/20/hickenlooper-unable-to-join-gardner-on-magpul-tour-thursday/

KDVR Article said:
Hickenlooper told reporters last week that he supports the high-capacity magazine ban; but, during a panel discussion about gun restrictions Tuesday night, the governor appeared to waffle on the matter.

“We haven’t taken a position on that bill yet,” Hickenlooper said. “But I from time to time have said contradictory things on it.

“It’s a tough issue: I mean, how many lives do you save, and how real is the inconvenience to the people who want to have a larger capacity magazine and feel it’s essential for defending their house?”

We must reach out to our governor, and let him know exactly why this issue is important to us. Not only are Coloradans faced with the imminent prospect of diminished rights, but we're also poised to lose $85 Million per year in tax revenue from Magpul alone. Let your voices be heard!

HERE IS THE CONTACT INFORMATION FOR MR. HICKENLOOPER:

I'll call again, just as I did earlier this week, right after sending a hand-written, hand-addressed page-long letter (and I write in ~ 12 pt. font.)

The people we really need to get the message out to are not on this board; They're our friends and neighbors who like to gripe about this stuff but can't be bothered to actually do anything. I actually stand to sever a couple of friendships over this because of such "friends"; I've been pushing them, but they're not doing squat. They will not be welcome at our range if they can't so much as send a letter to fight for our rights.

I understand your frustration. I know quite a few shooters who are pissed off about these laws, but can't be bothered to get involved in this fight at all.

It isn't like I enjoy wasting time sending letter after letter to often-ignorant representatives, senators, and other elected officials. I've certainly got things I'd rather be doing with my time. But, if I didn't make my voice heard, then who would I be to complain about the problem?

One of the reasons I'm trying to remind people here on the forums is because of the fact that I've seen quite a few threads (either here, or on other gun boards I post on) where people have talked as if these measures were already signed into law. At this point we're one third of the way through the law-making process. We absolutely can't get complacent and forget that the fight is still ongoing. If we're hoping to be heard on this issue, we need to keep on top of it until the bill becomes a law.

Thanks, Dan!

I hope we can show Mr. Hickenlooper how important this issue is to law-abiding gun owners here in Colorado :)

Hard nut to crack, Governor

Gov Hickenlooper is a very hard wing liberal. He will not listen to statistics , He's mind has been made up for quite some time, Though his office is diplomatic and his letters are vague, His only concern is approval ratings and his liberal base, Since the Media doesn't inform the public the truth of gun control, No I am not saying its a waste of time to contact legislators, Yes do it many times over and over, have your spouse, friends, I even fill out the e-mail for people all they had to do was say yes send it and I would send it in their behalf, Need to get on the Media about truth, Washington Post being the only paper that survived is liberal as well though they will listen, write to them ,call them and your local TV stations, on how they always leave out the thousands of folks saved by firearms and Yes it is about our country and Constitution, Not negotiable, Colo went through this in the 70-80's with violence in schools, they used metal detectors and armed security at that time nobody made a big deal about it, now its "we don't want our schools to look like a Prison or whatever, now its cool to say no on security. This is a giant Propaganda to wipe out 2nd Amen,

I sent e-mails to my State Senator and the Governor yesterday. No matter how devoted they are to their ideology, they still want to be reelected. We still have to try and influence things.

I just sent this out to 13 business associates/colleagues that often pass around pro-gun emails.

It was a bit of a test to step out and get in the face of these people who I barely know, but it had to be done.
None of us should allow ourselves to become so lazy that we won't send a quick email to the law makers who are about to further encroach on our rights.

Here's a list of all Senate members who are about to review the four gun control bills:

[email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

Copy and paste them all into the BCC address field and quickly tell them what you think of gun control. Also share your views by contacting Hickenlooper here: http://www.colorado.gov/govhdir/requests/opinion-leg.html

Doing this will take all of 90 seconds. For Pete's sake, take 90 seconds and make your opinion known!

Realize that if these bills are signed into law, you will:

  • Not be able to buy OR sell OR gift OR bequeath any magazines holding more than 15 rounds
  • Not be able to loan a firearm to, or borrow a firearm from anyone outside of your immediate family without a background check. (cousins, step-parents, in-laws, etc, are NOT considered immediate family under this law)
  • Pay for each background check, and the fee is not fixed; They could make it $1,000 if they want to.
  • Be forced to disarm in order to enter any college campus structures OR facilities used by a college, including stadiums, lecture halls, etc.

Let's beat this garbage! Tell them no, we want real solutions, not garbage that disarms the law abiding and emboldens criminals. Tell them to actually start PROSECUTING the criminals who violate current gun laws before we even talk about new ones.

K-12 schools are the easiest targets in our society and our law makers are doing NOTHING to harden the security of those schools. Instead they want YOU to be limited as to what you can and cannot own as if this will stop a murderer bent on killing children tomorrow. Earlier this week, the University of Colorado advised its female students to urinate or to vomit DURING the rape as a means of self defense. Does this not sound insulting to you? I think she should put two rounds in his chest before he even touches her zipper.

Yes, I know these words are aggressive. They have to be. And let's be honest; If it offends you, that means you're one of those who hasn't made any effort in this fight.

We all have busy lives, and I know it sucks to take time for this stuff. But it has to be done, and it's up to each one of us. Pick a side. Will you allow this or will you oppose it?

Feel free to pass this around and thank you for taking the time to read!

Gov Hickenlooper is a very hard wing liberal.

I wouldn't go that far. He actually has governed from the center quite a bit. He just effectively killed a very bad bill put forth by Senate president John Morse (D-Co Spgs) regarding fire fighters. I have actually been fairly happy with his governing thus far, despite my fears when he was elected. Yes, I'd have preferred Tancredo by no small measure. But JWH is who we have, and we must deal with that.

So, keep sending the letters and making the phone calls. He is far more likely to listen than Fields, McCann and the other congresscritters in safe districts. Unlike them, Hick does have to worry about reprisal from a traditionally libertarian-type, right-of-center state.

I dont even live in Colorado, but I've contacted him to let him know that the tourisim dollars I intend to bring there for an Elk hunt depend solely on the outcome of these bills.
