Wooo Weee that’s expensive! they don’t make them in China??!!!??!! just kidding, jezz. will be here all week

If you go back to the second page of this very long thread you will see a couple of holsters that I had El Paso Saddlery make for me for a couple of my antique revolvers.

They are hand made in this country to individual specifications.

Quality work does not come cheap.

was a joke and exaggeration, I buy quality!

I run the wire springs in all of my Model Ps and lighter main spring also.

That said you can't just stick them in there and say I don't like the feel. Of course it's going to feel mushy if the action is so rough it takes a heavy spring to make parts move.

Lighter springs are not going to work or even feel right without a complete (and proper) action job.

Well, I think it's more "if it ain't finished, it needs finishing !!" ( cause they aren't finished in the box).

Point being, as DJ points out, factory springs are "get it out the door" springs. They can eventually be THE enemy of longevity.

Jackrabbit1957 points out making one run "perfect " removes wear / stress.

So, depending on what one deems to be "broke", some would say they're "broke" from the factory . . . doesn't mean they won't run, they just don't run as well as they could. And that is "fixable".

Mike
Agree, they are all just assembled kits from the factory.

I like the look, but I hear you about fictional value. A box would be easier to load instead of reaching for cartridges. Kinnda like my trap shell box holder. Box attached to my belt
Plus a box with a wood insert can be left loaded indefinitely without worrying about verdigris.

$450!!! but that looks dam NICE! down to business and non of the frills

I do like the belt!

It's $420 for a belt and two holsters. I wouldn't make it for that. Money belts are a lot more effort to make than a regular belt.

2 holsters! well dang, good value then, you live once right! I’m sure they have an assembly line style of manufacturing,

Agreed. Even with a mechanized operation it isn't a get rich occupation. Throw in good quality tooling and the craftsman is is selling his skill for not much money. I only do it as a hobby and it has been that way for years.

I don't know about the quality of goods made in Mexico now as I have not paid any attention to it in years. Back in the day when I was selling leather work as a side job the Mexican made stuff had the reputation of being slightly better than cardboard and it was easy to tell why..

I bought a from a handmade holster company, their in house made and South African made. Could not tell the difference

why do they call it a Money Belt?

Because it opens up to store money in it. Mexico used to import really nice, heavy tooled leather for cheap. The problem was it was urine tanned. Get it wet and there wouldn't be any doubt about it.

The belt is basically a flattened tube with open ends that would allow you to insert your silver dollars or gold coins. They are a bit of work to do. Like Craig says..... I know I wouldn't make a rig like that for that price. But....I do everything by hand.

wet mexican urine sounds not fun! now if it was Sweetish urine, might be more fun

Money belts are about the same effort as making a lined belt. That said I would not make two holsters and a lined belt for that either.

To me, a lined belt is a lot easier.

They make good belt / holster? what ya rate them in the non custom rig world?
They are very good. I would consider them "semi-custom", as they have options and they're generally made to order but they do not deviate from their menu. I've bought numerous items from EPS both before and after I started doing it myself. Believe it or not, this Roosevelt rig was "off the shelf" from Cimarron's shop in Fredericksburg, TX.

that FANCY! That shoulder chest rig would look good with my .460 magnum. I carry that on my mountain hikes here. Everything trying to eat you

To me it's the same. Maybe even easier because it's less stitching. I only do/did period authentic rigs so I always told people if you want the belt lined just make it a money belt so it's authentic (and more comfortable by the way)

I've got an EP Saddlery belt and holster, got it with the Schofield I bought. Top quality stuff. Like mentioned above, you can find some deals at gun shows too.

El Paso Saddlery is the oldest holster maker in the U.S. and they do make quality gear. I have three of their gunbelts and several Mexican double loop holsters from their Authentic Western line.
