Quick question on opinions. Had an old beat up 22 revolver. Colt style knock off. It was an H. Schmidt. POS. Had a deal for other things, and threw in the Schmidt mostly to get rid of it. I was looking at getting a semi-auto 22 in the $200 price range. Ruger, Taurus, Walther, etc.... However, I was at one of the gun stores yesterday, and the owner got in (On a trade) a Dan Wesson 22 revolver. Very heavy. Very good shape. Not sure if it's one of the older original manufactures or the newer facility. Only has the 1 barrel. (Be honest, can't remember if it was a 4" or a 6". Had pachmyer grips. After some negotiating, the gun store owner will take no lower than $225 for it. Do you think that's decent? I really want a replacement 22lr pistol. Maybe I should wait for a semi-auto. I like the fact that it's not a single action only like so many of the "Cowboy" style 22lr revolvers. Thoughts?????

If it says Monson Mass. on it then it sounds like a terrific price. I think you should take it into some serious consideration.

I've owned a number of Dan Wessons and they are great guns - on the same level as S&W and Colt. The Monson MA made were the best...

Thanks for the quick feedback. Another question please. (I'm getting ready to go back to the gun shop after work). If it ISN'T from the MONSON production and from the newer one; which I can't remember. (Think it begins with a "P"); would it still be worth $225 what the gun shop owner seems pretty firm with? thanks.

I paid $400 for a complete kit years ago. 2,4,6 & 8" barrels. Sold it more recently for around $700.

$225 for any quality pistol seems like a very good deal, stellar if it's the one of the Monsoon produced pistols.

There were some problems with some of the Palmer models, mostly fit and finish, but a few of the 22's came out with poor accuracy. The problem was a particular batch of barrels, easily solved with a new barrel tube from DW/CZ. You'll need a barrel tool and gap gauge, if it doesn't come with it. Check Gunbroker and Auctionarms for an idea of going rate for the 22's. They're usually over $300 in any condition.

Ok; I took you'alls advice, and that of the other forum, and I went and picked it up. It was still there. (Hooray). I paid in cash, which helps them not pay a fee for credit cards. So, I got it for $215. Add tax, total price was $228.50.

And for what it's worth; it's a 4" barrel and it WAS MADE IN THE MONSON, MASS Plant. 5 digit serial number. Didn't come with any additional barrels, but from what you all have said, I think I did OK. Thanks again for the "QUICK" feedback. I'll edit and post a pic later. Thanks again.

I added a pic. (Cell phone pic). Quality sucks. Where the serial number is, ISN'T a bad spot. I simply put a piece of tape over the serial number. But with the bad quality, you couldn't have read it anyway. Normally I use my good cameras. thanks...

THat's a heck of a good deal. I wish I had seen it before you did.:D
It is just as well, I blew my gun budget on a 442 at Marv's Place yesterday.

Yea, we get a good deal here once in a while. Just depends where you go, what they have, and how long they've had it. Marv's can be OK. Now that he opened the other store, they seem to be getting more guns.
