Dillon Xl 750 questions

I've used a 650 for 3-4 years with no case feeder due mainly to lack of space where I mounted it. I changed the case tube to a longer one by buying a longer piece of clear tubing on line. I have no complaints about the priming system on mine and I can't say enough good things about Dillon's Customer Service. I had a primer explosion caused by me jamming the handle when I had a primer jam up the press. (the only time I've had a priming problem with probably 10k rounds). It messed up a lot of stuff. About 75 primers going off at once is quite the bang. Thank goodness for the steel tube around the primer feeding tube or I would have probably been injured. I called Dillon and told them what happened and told them up front I felt it was totally my fault. Should have cleared the jam instead of ramming the lever. They went through everything with me over the phone asking all kinds of questions and the entire time the rep was making a list of what parts he thought I would need and also added a few things that he said I might need but wasn't sure. By their parts prices it was several hundred dollars in parts and I was planning on paying every dime since it was no fault of theirs. He shipped everything the same day at NO CHARGE and refused to charge me. Ended the conversation by saying he was glad no one was hurt. When the parts came in, per his instructions, I called and they stayed on the phone with me close to an hour going through the installation and adjusting until I was cranking out bullets again. What more can you ask for? Since that point, I buy things like ammo boxes and other accessories from Dillon that I could probably buy a little cheaper elsewhere but service means a lot to me and the way they replaced the parts for free and spent so much time making sure I was up and running again made be a Dillon fan for life. How many other companies would refuse to take money for warranty parts when the customer admits he cause the breakage and offered up front to pay? I just can't imagine anyone at Dillon getting any kind of attitude unless it was thrown at them first and then I would still be surprised from my experiences.

That was likely a large factor in why they changed the priming system on the 750

I've had the same experience with Redding, RCBS, Frankford Armory, and Hornady. Lee charges shipping,...I've never made a warranty claim with Lyman

I like to bitch. Ya. I tend to bitch when I am sold something I am told will work, but doesn't, then lied to. The fact is, Dillon didn't even KNOW it didnt work until I told them. They did NOT EVEN TEST IT! haha that is how bad their quality inspection is. It is totally absurd. They plainly messed up, big time.

I posted a thread recently where I thought Dillon might be slipping a bit. I had a similar poor experience with customer service and feel they dropped the 650 support from their website too quickly. I have been a Dillon guy for more than 30 years. Never got anyone that wasn't friendly and courteous back then. Now it seems a bit hit or miss. Most all disagreed and think Dillon is the best.

It was pointed out that all the support for the 650 is still there. Just because it wasn't in your face and you couldn't find it doesn't mean it was dropped.

Couple things…save your money and purchase a used 650 with the casefeeder, they can be found in the $700 range if you look around. The 750/650 needs the casefeeder, without it you have a VERY expensive 550, so get the feeder. If you want to load a lot in a short amount of time you need to have everything ready and within hands reach, mainly the primer tubes. I purchased both my 650’s used and with Dillon’s warranty I have/had no issues getting replacement parts when needed, although I highly recommend the spare parts kit, it can keep you running until you can order you busted part. As for getting the Blue Press catalog, you can ask for it when you purchase a replacement part (if you buy used). I’ve never had an issue with my 650 primer system since I’ve owned them and they have close to ½ million through them if not more…used to load for 4 different shooters. The 750 might be a good machine, but to me and other like me, it was an answer to a question never asked.

If Dillon were a publically traded company I would think some of Nato's critics were major share holders. Dillon released a new flagship product without doing a full function test to ensure it was compatible with their own accessories when used in a manner they could easily foresee. Sloppy engineering and unacceptable at their price point. Period.

If Nato was irriated when he called them... well boo hoo. Handling justifiably frustrated customers is part of customer service.
