I need to stay out of the pawn shop. when I was getting my 223 tactical here a couple weeks ago I seen this heavy barreled remington on the rack. Been there for a bit.
went to grab some more AA#9 the other day and it was still there. got to doing some looking at them online and only a couple options for the heavy barrel 300s.
Either a police or a sendero
I was hoping for police, but it was a sendero. Had it listed for 800. I said I’d feel better at 550.
Started looking it over. And don’t know why or who jeweled the bolt, not a huge deal but I don’t like it. Couldn’t see down the barrel cause it was full of dirt , lint and cat hair from the shop cat.
After about 20 mins of the owner brushing the bore out and finding a bore light I said I’d go 600. back and forth for a while and we ended up at 650. Out the door no other fees. Even got a couple boxes of federal brass out of it.
It does have the hs stock under the crap paint job. there’s some dings on the crown, but that’s ok being I’ll have it threaded and recrowned anyway I just gave cash to hold it. I’ll get it next week. Some obligations to do early and I don’t want to spend it until those are done.
starting to gather some stuff. Dies, brass and bullets. Trimmer, primers. Scope bases and rings. mill get another pst gen 2 for it. Or I’m looking at the trijicon credo 2.5-15x56. Maybe swap some scopes around. Put the credo on the 223 and the 5.5-25 on the 300. Might be the way I go. We’ll see. It’ll take me a month or so to get things lined up for it.
i plan on using this hunting. Deer and elk. I’ve got the Grendel also. But since I got rid of my 7mag I’ve been wanting to do another big rifle to have. I also plan on using this rifle to play at the range. I figure 160-185gr will be plenty for deer and elk. And some 200-220gr for steel. I need to look for some powders to use. Local shop has 4064 and some Vihtavuori 570. I only have about a half pound of 4831sc from my 7mag.
I forgot how big brass is compared to my others lol. I’m planning on having fun with this one. 4F1D0037-68D3-4E66-A7B2-97D081D6E5B8.jpeg 89E46A7C-2749-41FA-8409-F31770E850FE.jpeg 6C9A629D-DFF4-4F6B-A8AB-6EABB8FA4402.jpeg 0635EF57-C242-4CDE-92BC-90C1B75A2AC6.png 88E77D32-7C83-42B4-859F-24C0E4E91337.jpeg

Seems like if the jeweling was that objectionable, a quick trip through the sand blast cabinet for some bead blasting would cure it. You could parkerize it after that or ceracote it.
Nice rifle. Savage jeweled the bolt on their Apex Hunter 110. It’s one reason I don’t like to shoot this rifle and need it out of my safe.
