Interesting that your womenfolk all liked the M&P... after trying lots of different handguns, that was my wife's selection, as well (M&P 9c, though it has the stock trigger). I don't remember if she has the small or medium grip installed, but it definitely fit her hands better than my CZs. I expected she might like the single-stack Shield, but she actually preferred the compact version of the double-stack M&P over the Shield (which is why it's best to let people pick what feels best for themselves). :)

I am not a fan of most striker fired pistols and do not like the M&P with factory stock trigger.

However the APEX trigger kit totally changed my mind. If she likes her M&P she will love it with a APEX trigger and kit.

It should not be a surprise about the Ladies preferring a full size gun. The longer sight radius improves hit potential, longer slide helps to steady the gun and full size grip gives more to hang onto.

However it will take some work for ladies to conceal carry.

I think you would be rather comfortable with something in the single stack size. And those options are rather wide for you. I would say the front runners of that market would be the already mentioned Glock 43, Shield, XD-S in either barrel length or caliber, Walther PPS, or Ruger LC9.

In winter I carry a G19. In summer, a S&W shield 9. I don't like 380, and the Glock 43 was too small at the grip for my tastes.

I carry a Glock 26 and plan on going to a Glock 19. I have some big mitts, so I use Glock 19 magazines. Since it's the grip that is the most difficult to handle - whats the point?

Everyone I know who has carried or shot the Ruger LCP/ Keltec P3AT/etc variants have hated them. But for conceal-ability, they are hard to beat.

Best thing to do is ask your friends and try theirs out first.

I wish I had with my G26. But at the time I was all about conceal-ability and had just offloaded my Keltec P3AT because I hated it. :) So I wanted to stay smaller but larger.

Nope, gotta disagree with that TN Outlaw. My wife's G42 doesn't hurt me or my wife when it goes off. The G43 I had did hurt me every time I pulled the trigger. A G43 is a 9mm, a G42 is only a .380. Even my new Smith M&P 9 Shield, which doesn't hurt me, still kicks harder than my wife's G42.

Thanks for this comparison of these three pistols. I have shot none of these, but when handling them, I had found the G42 the most favorable to handle, and predicted that the G43 would be painful to shoot. Shooting a G19 is already starting to hurt, unless I hang a Surefire X200/X300-series light on it, so I am starting to look into adding something like a G42, to be my new right-handed pistol, as "primary" gets switched to the left side when I retire from LEO-ing. (The big-bore Magnums I fired in the Eighties were, apparently, a bit much.)

I have owned three small CC type 9mm pistols. The G43 is the one I kept. With the correct extended magazine it's not too small for my giant man paws. It doesn't hurt me to shoot it. My friend shot it a few weeks ago and was very impressed.

Yes sir, hard kicking handguns can take their toll if a person fires them enough over the years. My lovely 65 year old wife did good work with a couple of different 44 Magnum Super Blackhawks in IHMSA competitions back in the '80s. She has a shelf full of trophies and an arthritic right wrist to show for it. But no regrets.:)

I have come to the realization compact double stack polymer guns aren't for me. If I am going to dress around a pistol, I might as well make it a more shootable full size.

That said, I only go that route in the cooler months. I really don't like a thicker pistol iwb.

90% of the time I just go with the lcp II. It shoots well and packs even better.

However, I recently purchased a Springfield Compact Range Officer in 9mm, and I am really enjoying it. It carries iwb very well as its not too thick and not too long with a 4" barrel, the aluminum frame is very welcome in terms of weight savings, I shoot it better than any compact 9mm I have owned, and 8+1 of quality 9mm is plenty of gun for my day to day.

It's the first 1911 I have considered carrying daily over the micro .380. The lcp may become my lazy day pistol with the RO being carried more frequently.

If you like your RIA but want a 9mm, why not a 9mm 1911 (like a 9mm RIA)? Depending upon your budget, a Springfield Armory EMP would make a very nice carry weapon, and on the other side of the 1911 budget, a 9mm RIA would also be a nice choice (if you want smaller than your Commander, get an Officer size, the RIA Compact).

In other choices, if you like your Glock 17 but not your Glock 19, have you tried carrying your Glock 17? If you want something smaller maybe try the Glock 26. If you want something other than a Glock, the S&W M&P series are well regarded (I recently got a M&P40c) and if you don't like the trigger a lot of people get and have wonderful things to say about the Apex trigger. I'm a big fan of CZs, a PCR or P01 would be a terrific carry gun if you didn't have too much trouble concealing the Glock 19, and if you want to go smaller, the RAMI is a great choice (I have a P01, I want a RAMI).

I have been carrying the glock 19 gen 4 but I just haven't warmed up to it.
As much as I like my G19, they're not for everybody. Moreover, the "compact 9mm polymer" field is large and just FULL of good pistols. No reason to stick with the G19 if you don't like it.

Recently I have taken to carrying my RIA midsize. I don't have a preferance between all metal and "plastic" pistols. I love my glock 17 and 42. Just curious what you guys and gals would recomend for single or double stack easily concealed pistols.
If you like the size of the G19 (though not the pistol itself), there are quite a few pistols I'd look at: Kahr CW9, S&W M&P or Shield, Ruger SR series, CZ P-10c, XD/XDm/XDs, etc.

agreed.. trial and error will be the only recourse..

i shoot my cz 75d pcr best of all my carries.... my colt officers is a close 2nd but lacks the capacity of the cz......
the easiest to concel is my sig 938 and you can easily forget you have it on, but the sig is not as easy at hitting the target as the cz.....
it always comes down to personal choice.... good luck

I even traded my S&W Shield 9mm shortly after I bought it (and didn't like it) for 3rd Gen. Glock 27 with factory night sights and really like it.

I usually carry that or my 4th Gen. 26. Both are easy to carry for me. I've also got a 19, 23, and 42 but I prefer the little double stacks.

Ever considered any of the traditional DA/SA 3rd Gen S&W 9mm pistols? I'm partial to the 3913 (8 rd single stack) or the 6906 (12 rd double stack) for every day carry, and rarely am without one or the other. Either is comfortable (for me) when carried IWB, OWB, or even in a belly band holster. Can usually find them for around $400 or so.

I would add a model 915 to that list.

Get a slightly bigger shirt or better holster and carry the Glock 17 you love.

Mine is easily my favorite Glock to carry and its not that hard to dress around, for me anyway.

Else as mentioned a 92 compact might be right up your alley.

Myself, I've been in love with my sig 229 of late. Carries nearly as well as the Glock 19.

I have been happy carrying a Kahr PM9...it is way better than the Ruger LCP that i used to carry

Given your criteria, I'd say CZ P-01 (alloy framed, hammer fired), CZ P-07 (polymer framed, hammer fired), or CZ P-10C (polymer framed, striker fired, and fits many Glock 19 holsters). All are double stack 9 mm pistols that are as easily concealed as a Glock 19. All you need is a good belt and a good holster, and you can conceal a much more practically shootable gun than a mouse gun or subcompact.

The Springfield XDS maybe worth a look, I have one in 9x19 with a 3.3" barrel. One of my favorite carry pistols is a East German 9x18 Makarov.

I am a Glock guy in general, but I did not like the Glock 43. I got rid of it and got a S&W Sheild. It is much much much better than the G43.
