Does the big black fanny pack, as large as your Grandma's girdle, indicate a gun?

I went to Cabela's last week and saw three of these monsters on guys in regular clothes - not sweats - with clear wallets in their back pocket.

Wow - my theory, they wanted to posture in Cabela's and let you know they had a gun. Some walked with a Condition Orange scanning view. I'm suprised they didn't pie around the shirt racks or crawl across the floor.

I had a Glock 19 with a floppy outdoorsy shirt, t-shirt and IWB. Lots of folks in general in town wear a t-shirt and a covershirt. Thus, I could carry without looking SSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOO obvious. :D

i may have been one of those...except that my wallet was in the fanny pack. why do you hate people with fanny packs?

You need one of these. People see the water hose sticking out and think nothing of it.

Has a HUGE holster and tear away weapon cover. I love mine.....

Has the condensation from the water packet given you any problems carrying in that? Or do you have one of those waterproof Navy edition SIGs ? :p

And they hurt you how?

The firearm is in a separate compartment from the water, no problems at all

And yes I got my Sig while I was on SEAL team 3, but I can't talk about that right now of course.......:neener:

So, where'd you get it?

There are a few places that carry it. Google "Camelbak Goblin" and you'll find a few.

I got mine at a place called "Safety Glasses USA" or something similar.
I'd never used them before or since, but this one order went fine so....
take that for what it's worth.

Great Tip!!! Thanks

Tune Belt? Hmmm.... great idea! I have a few of those laying around my house from cassette & cd players (before I began using an iPod).

Thanks for the tip. I just may try that next time I go out for a bicycle ride or a hike.

Fanny packs went out of style in the 80s. Do not wear one unless you are either a hiker or a senior citizen. You might as well wear a leisure suit... yes you stand out THAT bad with a fanny pack.

If they are so out of style. Why are they sold everywhere? I see them all over the world in my travels. All manor of people wear them. They are in the same category as travel vests, photo vests, day packs, camera bags, etc.

To me, they are a functional tool. Not a fashion statement.

I've used them for years and will continue to do so.

We tell all the new people at the store when they are watching for guns to watch for fanny packs because more often than not fanny pack = gun

It's pretty common knowledge. We all knew it in highschool

I think it depends what part of the country you are in and what activity you are doing when carrying one. Around here a guy carrying a fanny pack stands out because you never see a guy with one just walking around a store. It is somewhat rare for women to have them now days too around here.

Now you will see someone jogging or riding a bike with a fanny pack sometimes because the do not have pockets on their cloths, so you could carry it then with out standing out around here.

Just because no one approaches you to ask if you are carrying does not mean you have never been made while carrying. I have seen a few people carrying and carrying in places they cannot by state law, but I did not say a word to them.

All camouflage is local.

My area (western Massachusetts) has plenty people of all ages who dress casually and in an outdoorsy fashion. While large fanny packs can be seen on trails they are rarely seen for street wear. Wearing one would make you look like a clueless dork in this part of the world but I doubt if many people would be thinking "Gun!".

That said, cell phone, PDA, iPod holsters are omnipresent.

I only have seen 1 person around here that uses a FP on a regular basis, one of the guys at work, and it's a very small bag. So it would look out of place for me.

Man, wear THIS cabela's pack and people will be so dumbfounded they wont have presence of mind to think it may have a gun in it:

Actually that looks like a good idea for a BOB/car bag. Lots of space and my hands would be free for "other" tasks, cheap and a free knife even.

FYI: don't go to England and call it a fanny pack, it has an entirely different meaning there!

Condition Orange Scanning

I never realized this before reading the first post in this thread, but I always do the Condition Orange Scan when I am in public regardless of whether I am armed or not.

The first thing I do when entering a building is locate the emergency exits, available cover and concealment, and major traffic paths so I can get out fast if necessary.

Dallas has had an increasing number of take-over robberies, home invasions, and other exceptionally violent incidents in the past year.

The latest one was Thursday (9/21) at a popular take-out place called "Eatzi's" in one of the "better" areas of Dallas.

4 armed punks hit the back door as the place was closing up. They stole cash from the store and one of the employees, and took off. No casualties fortunately.

You just can't tell when the nutball standing next to you or walking into a place is going to pick THIS special moment to self-destruct, commit his crime, or just start hurting others.

I used to think I was only living in Condition Yellow, but I guess I am just keeping up with the changing times.

FWIW - Yes, sometimes I do wear a belly bag because cover garments in Texas can be a little too much during the summer, and I prefer a full size service pistol. However, for professional reasons, I have had to switch to an SP101 in the pocket of my pleat-front slacks. (Won't wear "Dockers" because Levi's gives money to anti's)

What gun do the Fashion Police carry? A chrome, pink Lorcin?

If you see a big guy with muscles, a crew cut - a white shirt and slacks - and a BIG black pack hanging under his belly - that's really a fashion statement.

As far as being in Condition Orange - Orange is when you sense something is not right. If you always think something is not right that corrupts the meaning of changing alert levels. Yellow would be sufficient for Cabela's.

I remember Greg Hamilton mentioning that after a class, some guys went to the supermarket and pied the aisles in crouches.

I can wear a fully size in the TX heat without a 'belly bag' and can carry a 642 or PM9 in common shorts and slacks.

Thus, I'm in fashion - however, I respect the alternate fashion sense of those who do wear the big bag but I reserve my right to be snide.

I rarely if ever wear a FP, but I think they are great. The more the better. Let the bad guys wonder and wonder. Let the bad guys be afraid. If folks want to carry pistolas in fanny packs or "camera cases" on their belts, great! The more the bad guys are wondering, the less they'll be mugging and robbing.

Yeah, I've been known to carry a Tactical ManBag from time to time.

So?

Keeps my pouch of chewing tobacco from getting smushed in my hip pocket. I also keep meds, my checkbook, a ballpoint pen, an extra Comp-Tac holster, a SIG and a spare mag in there.

Sometimes instead of carrying it around my waist I sling it over my left shoulder with the tearaway compartment next to my body.

Regards,
Rabbit.
