Many police are shot with their own guns. The bg knows that it is there. I prefer not to have an identifiable gun to scare a BG and give them plenty of time to figure out how to eliminate me.
If I were an armed criminal and willing to use deadly force - if I wanted your gun or wanting to rob the place, I would draw my gun from concealment and shoot the guy with the pack.
Police carry as part of their job and it gives a presence to them. They are also in part protected as they are seen as a part of a larger legal system. But yet, being shot with their own gun is very common. You as a civilian have no such factors. Given other methods of concealment, I see no reason to increase risk from a dedicated opponent.
But, I'm not the fashion police but I will opine that a fanny pack is a less than optimal carry mode unless you are wearing sweat. But do it if you want and pie the shirt racks in Cabelas. Stride through the sheeple as a person of awareness and power.
