Favorite AR pistol braces and why

To those of you that like the SBA3; Have you tried the SBA4 and if so why do you prefer the SBA3?
No, but I put an SBm4 on my 7" pistol, and didn't like the little arms that run down the side, and would like them even less if they got in the way of my adjusting the stock. I'll stick with the SBa3. Works more like the type of stock I'm used to.

I went with the Maxim Defense PDW brace on my 9.5 .300AAC:

Adjustable when most other braces weren't, fairly comfortable, more compact due to shorter buffer tube, easily converts to an SBR stock.

Unfortunately the maker is no longer making them. You can use a Magpul 10 position receiver extension for the M110/SR25 and put a .75 inch spacer in the bottom so the internal depth is correct for the M4.
Better still, use an A5H2 buffer & Sprinco green spring to take full advantage of the RE. No spacer needed.

My favorite brace is the SBA3 reinforced with a Split Fix.

I got the SB Mini and Phase 5 buffer tube in. It's closer to what I wanted than the Blade rig. Man, that Blade can hurt you if it catches you on your collar bone.

I gave some serious thought to getting the SBA3 because it's adjustable, but I looked at the specs on the Mini and the Phase 5 tube and made a guestimate on what the length of pull was going to be.

As I've mentioned before, I'm small with a short reach. It turns out that the SB Mini rig is only half an inch shorter than I keep my carbine stocks anyway. I'd like to try an SBA3 though. Maybe for my next build. I have one of my UBRs for sale or trade to get into one.

I still have the Mini I originally put on the 7" I built. My son didn't like it, (I built the gun to give to him when he turned 21) so I took it off and put an SBm4 on it. He liked that better. I plan on putting the Mini and a Phase 5 tube on my next build, as soon as the tube is back in stock. I am not short, and like both models; I like the minimalist look of the Mini, and the LOP is tolerable, but I admit the SBa3 is nice on my 10.5".

If you're gonna go with the Hex tube, are you aware that they now have a model specifically made for the Mini? It has a shelf on the back of the tube that matches up with the inside of the Mini. Although I don't think it's that important. I put one layer of Gorilla duct tape on the end of the tube anyway and it ain't movin. Getting it off isn't gonna be any fun without compressed air.

Yes, that's why I'm waiting patiently for them to get back in stock. Although I had it on the stock tube that came with the CDNN kit, and it didn't wander much. I do like the looks of the Hex tube, also.

I ordered mine directly from Phase 5 just before the weekend and it came in yesterday. The tube that is. I like the setup.

Nice lookin' rig!

Thanks man. I really love the way it handles. With a single point sling, it carries really well across my back and is quick into ready mode from there. Muzzle blast isn't bad as long as I don't use a comp. Still, I hate to admit it, but the most fun I've had with it so far is running it with the CMMG .22 conversion. It actually shoots 40 grain solids more than just acceptably. I can pop shotgun shell hulls at 25 yards as quickly as I can get the sights on them.

Honestly, I think building this pistol means the end of rifles for me. To me, the SBA Mini and I suspect the SBA3 are all that I need due to my short arms anyway. I don't need the SBR stamp.

Yes, my first (post Army) build 30 years ago ( I built some CAR-15 for a unit in my Division) was an XM177E2 clone. I built the 7" for my younger son a couple years ago, and a 10'5" for myself. My next will also probably be a 10.5" or maybe 11.5", with that Mini on it. I plan on getting a 16" upper also, and using that for hunting after get a deer with my 'pistol'. (I handgun hunted for years, never got a shot I was comfortable taking.)

Yeah man. Since I already have the 10.5, I think my next one is going to be a 12.5. I really liked my 14.5, so I figure I should like the 12.5 that much and a bit more. I'm also toying with the idea of going with either a 300BO or a 350 Legend. If I do that, it's gonna be another 10.5, if not shorter.

Are you looking for an upper in 5.56 or some other caliber? Not to be an opportunist, but I just posted a 16" PSA upper for sale.

5.56, but it might be further down the road. I have one gun waiting to be picked up, that I still owe $1700 on, but I've been buying parts here and there for my next AR build as I can. Thanks for the offer. If it's 5.56 and you still have it this summer, I might take you up on it.

Yes, it's 5.56 and a heck of a deal at $200, but it doesn't include the BCG and charging handle, although I have a set that I could throw in for another $50.

Anyway, when you start building that AR, keep me in mind. I tend to build ARs and switch stuff until I land on what I really like and often have a lot of lightly used stuff laying around.
